On the networks, you'll > likely find the usual sensationalism, like endless footage of looting Good point Jim! I was watching FOX news and some CNN and the media's sensationalism with the looting makes me sick. They will show an African American family with food from the grocery store (who are starving) and make it as they are looting. When I saw a white family taking food from a flooding grocery store, they made it as if this was a poor family just trying to stay alive. It's just not fair!!! All of the people that are starving and have no where to go, have to do something. They are all in need, but the damn news doesn't show you that! At last! We wanted to hear about your wonderful time. It is so funny how so many people say the same things about meeting people at a Jonifest - it feels as if we have already met somehow before we meet in the flesh. There are so many people that I've met and I look at them and am absolutely positive that I've met them and known them somewhere - or somewhen - else; and yet, this is the first time meeting in person. I don't normally have this kind of reaction with people and I usually don't mingle very well, but somehow there's so many common bonds with Joni fans that there's always someone to talk to and it feels like home of some kind. You reminded me in some ways of both my own brother, and one of my brothers-in-law. I knew who you were as soon as the car drove up. It is SO SWEET that you and your wife are so close and I wish you many, many years of happiness together. If there's another Jonifest and you go, bring her along, and the kids. I'm sure they'll love the people too and that everyone will love them. What a warm and charming family you are. Thank you so much for your offer to take Sarah and Matthew to the beach, even if they decided they didn't feel like travelling. And, as you've said, it takes a lot longer to drive places around there than it looks on the map, because the maps don't tell you that you have to wind around and around these mountains and gorges. If we were birds, we could probably fly there in 20 minutes, but with cars on twisty roads, it's more like 90 minutes. I would love to go to Italy but I'm afraid the France thing is probably the one-and-only trip of a lifetime for me and that my travelling days are over for a while. But, you never know. If I should come into some money (winning a lottery maybe?), then Italy is certainly a place I've always wanted to go. But then the song mentions yellow and black, which lost me, and then blue as the long night (Blue?). But Lama was right about the part "she picks her colors from the air." Over 25,000 people will arrive at the Houston Astrodome tonight and we expect many waves of refugees over the next month. We will collect items for the next 60 days and will make trips once a week or more as needed. On PBS, they said that the Prez has broad powers in an emergency like this. Unfortunately, it's good news /bad news. Good news: He authorized the use of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which is a good thing. It means that the refineries that haven't been destroyed can use crude oil from the reserve to continue producing finished goods (gasoline). Bad news: Ordinarily, the Federal Gov't tells the oil companies that they have to produced different "blends" for different areas. (My *assumption* is that gasoline intended for Los Angeles is a cleaner fuel than that intended for wide open, less populated, windy places like Kansas.) Anyway, the federal government temporarily lifted those restrictions, allowing the oil companies to make what ever blend they feel like and ship it where they want to.
