And that reminds me - I think she sounds very French, despite the fact that she sings in English. Many of her songs have a French sort of sound and a few that I can think of are also quite ironic. I've always loved this one, which starts off quietly and ends with a roar: Any guy I was bored I would not compromise Wanted more So I looked in your eyes But they could have been any guy's They could have been any guy's eyes But your eyes were there And they started to stare But don't think that I care. Now you Got to thinking you're great 'Cause we shared a few looks And I made one mistake But it could have been anyone I was looking for that kind of fun But you were right there In love all is fair So don't think that I care. Now you've Got a new friend, I know So I'm packing my things And I'm going to go Please don't make a scene, don't cry You can't stop me if you try I love being free It's the best way to be Is she as pretty as me? Mine is pretty much the trip of a lifetime. The kids are I are going to be in France for two whole weeks. I haven't had a really vacation in 25 years and the kids have never been anywhere, except for one weekend in Montreal. So, it's partly from savings and partly from plastic and this is probably the only vacation I'll have for another 25 years, so, while I don't enjoy debt, I want to do this now, because in another few years, my kids will be grown and gone. Or maybe grown, but not gone. Kids can't afford to leave home anymore! Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tired of spam? Yahoo! It's like I'm watching Channel 5 late night softcore... I keep on expecting women with big hair to come in and start fondling each other for no good reason...' I had to smile... most of the evening's conversation went on like this as it does sound very 80's softporn... Ironically he only started his conversation during 'Sex Kills' Much Joni Jamie Zoob Are you kidding? I always play TBOS during my wild sex parties. But seriously, I have always found Joni's music to be very sensuous, though not usually in an erotic way. Speaking of TBOS, I am really enjoying listening to it this summer. It's a great compilation, really (Dreamland, on the other hand...). I recently packed up all my stuff and put nearly all my music in storage (while I'm temporarily living with my mother back in Ohio....but that's another story), and TBOS was one of a handful of CDs I was sure to bring. I *do* like Rufus Wainwright, but he drives some people up the wall. Strangely enough, I can kind of understand why people would find his voice annoying, but I still like it. I find Aimee's voice too nasal or something - and yet, there are other nasal singers that I do enjoy, or have just gotten used to maybe. I guess it all comes down to the "awk", as Joni has said. Joni didn't used to like her own voice. I can understand that. I'm not terribly fond of my own voice but there's not a lot any of us can do to change our own voices. I think it was a combination of our not being able to make sufficient numbers last year, plus the fact that Full Moon was really getting into the wedding biz, which apparently pays more than Jonifests do. of course, last year, we had both a fest and a very weird wedding, so it was a strange fest indeed. It certainly does, although the reports I've read so far appear to suggest that this is the work of copy-cats, and they've been pretty ineffective so far - other than causing major distress and anxiety for everyone. Let's hope they've done their worst. > Azeem in London, trying to take solace in the fact that > we're kicking Aussie arse in the first Test (cricket match)... I guess you wrote this before England went in to bat? Condolences on the subsequent batting performance - maybe this won't be the first test win against Aussie at Lords in 71 years, as I thought (and hoped - sorry Australian jmdlers) it might! BUT, is our view a little distorted just because we're JMDLers? We've read 20,000 of these articles, so of course we're sick of them. But normal people haven't read 20,000 Joni interviews. If they read just one, I bet a lot of them would think she's making a valid point. The commercial airwaves *are* full of junk, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of room for real artistry to slip in. Sometimes I wonder whether part of the problem is where Joni lives, in the heart of the "entertainment industry." Maybe she should move somewhere else, where poor old slobs who've never been famous are actually making good music. Thank you SO MUCH for this much-desired list of Joni's 45's. I'm saving this one for myself (although--hint, hint!--they seriously need to be archived somewhere on this site for future reference). I know we've discussed this before and I think there still might be a need for this information in our archives, so I've copied the information from the book below.
