But why, you must wonder, do The Gays celebrate the sin of pride? Why cant they celebrate all the deadly sins? A suggested schedule: MONDAY! Gay Envy - Geffen as Grand Marshall while a bunch of working class mos try to figure out if what Geffens wearing is available at Century 21. WEDNESDAY! About the Hits Songbook: note that the lyrics are wrong in the CD booklet to Hits too. (Though they are right in the actual sheet music section of the songbook.) What's amazing is that the errors are obviously from some poor soul transcribing the words *by ear* off the recording. (Wouldn't you think they could get a copy from Joni?) Has anyone ever seen the lyric errors in the Blue songbook? 'Richard' is especially bad: "Go look at your eyes, a fallen moon...You got tubes in your eyes (?)...only a face, these dark cafes.' "All I Want': 'by the light, I want to get up and jump, I want to wreck my stockings in some juke box dump...So I hurt you too, then we both get so unglued.' Ouch! That's gotta hurt! Maybe Richard was an android. ...only a face, these dark > cafes.' That's just goofy. Sounds like stoner talk. > "All I Want': 'by the light, I want to get up and > jump, I want to wreck my > stockings in some juke box dump...So I hurt you too, > then we both get so > unglued.' "By the light" doesn't make much sense in the context, (by the light of the silvery moon?) but the rest of it sounds like it could possibly be an earlier version of the lyrics or something, although "unglued" sounds awkward to me. Maybe the transcriber needs tubes... in their ears. Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tired of spam? Yahoo! Hi Sue, I'm glad you're enjoying the JMDL. Me too. I'm not a copyright expert but here's my understanding of the rules. When a songwriter's managment applies for copyright protection, they often submit an audio tape to a service which transcribes the words and submits them. Those words form the legal "image" of the words. When some company puts out a songbook, they pay for the right to publish the copyrighted words. As you suspected, "boy winds" is in the book of lyrics too. Once the "wrong" words are copyrighted, 'nothing can be done'. Now the good news. Go to Les' site: www.jmdl.com/lyrics Type "bully winds" into the search box, and press . You'll see that what Joni actually sang (and imprinted onto our lives) is accurately preserved. If you play guitar, there's more good news. The JMDL guitar tabs page has very accurate documents what Joni actually played. Many of the tabs in the songbooks aren't even close. If I played guitar, I wouldn't buy the songbooks; I'd spend the money on strings.
