My wife's Dad died suddenly about 5 years ago, and he collected ALL KINDS of things which my Mother-in-law has yet to dispose of (except for his rifles & shotguns which were stolen by his addict son). I've offered several times to dig in and help her out but she's just not ready to deal with it yet. And on top of that, now her OTHER son is on his deathbed from alcoholism and a shot liver. Luckily he doesn't have near as much crap to deal with, and his brother has also stolen some of it to finance his habits. Ain't life grand? Hello , Good day/evening to you all, I have been a silent witness to your conversations for many months. Thank you for letting me share your witty and informative observations Can any one tell me why on page 3 of the `hits` songbook the lyrics to Urge For Going are wrong? `Boy winds came around.......` `Apply the fire with kindling......` `..I`ll fold my wandering in...` Then I turn the page for the last verse of The Circle Game -but its not there ! its just the previous page repeated.......but not exactly....now its changed back to `Bully winds came round...` Then on the next page theres only half the lyrics for Raised on Robbery.......no California , no Carey Should I get my money back? Is this a unique print run? Are there copies in existence which are correct? Howdy Sue, and a belated welcome to you! Thanks for stepping out of the shadows. I can't really tackle your question except to say that the lyrics you quoted from Hits are WRONG, of course. I know that even the published book of Joni's lyrics/poetry was riddled with mistakes but I don't recall hearing anything about the Hits songbook. I don't think you've got any kind of rarity as these things were produced en masse I suppose. I guess whoever proofed it (or not) was unaware of the passion that we Joni fans have for her work and that no mistakes can just slip thru a crack. Anyway, thanks again for your post and keep em' coming. Bob NP: Irma Schultz/A Bird That Whistles, "A Bird That Whistles" - --------------------------------- Yahoo! Sports Rekindle the Rivalries. A couple of websites track covers (Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits) but I don't know that they also aim to snag the recordings as well. I'm obviously assuming here that y'all would be familiar with the original, "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte". Taking already extremely campy movies and tapping them just lightly enough upward to push them over the top is a popular art form in these parts (well, not just here, of course...). Picture a Carol Burnett version of the movie -- full length! -- with Harvey Korman and Lyle Waggoner in the lead roles. Two slightly odd things -- the McGuffin of the movie and play is eminant domain -- the seizure of private property by the state for public use -- and coincidentally on Thursday, the US Supreme Court ruled marginally in favor of extending just that very thing so that the state (in this case the City of New London) can do so not to build a bridge or an airport, but to develop property to increase its value. I find this rather troubling, and was surprised to learn that it was the liberal/centrist wing of the Court that voted this way. I won't go on about this as I hate to induce comas, but perhaps one or more of the legal eagles on the list can explain this to me more clearly... Anyway, it was an odd coincidence that two hours after learning of the decision, I'm watching a twisted version of a movie in which eminant domain plays a part. Stephan is close friends with the owners/artistic directors of the Lorraine Hansbury Theater, and when an extremely long line formed for the exactly one (!!!) rest room on the ground floor that houses the theatre (the rest is a hotel) -- I'd wager all 200 in the audience were wheezing, and needing to pee, from laughter -- I shot a look at Stephan and he said "follow me" and led me through a DO NOT ENTER door and we snuck upstairs. But outside the second-floor bathroom, there was a snappily-dressed but straight-looking man pacing and looking nervous. We asked if the bathroom was free, and he said, "Oh, gosh, no, her water just broke and we're waiting for the ambulance." Good heavens! Stephan and I just looked at each other, I pointed up and he nodded, but just before we departed for the stairs, the man cracked up and said "Wait wait wait..." and simultanously two guys came out of the restroom, one of them -- a dead ringer for Weird Al Yancovitz -- immediately said to us "Aw Jesus, did he...? Go on in." The other guy pantomimed ringing the neck of the jokester. Well! Theater even during the intermission! Anyway, it is Gay Pride Week here in SF (and other cities too, although they exact weekend tend to be staggered locally around the country and the world), I need all the laughs I can get lately, and you two boys make me proud.
