I look forward to more of her. Her brother is IMHO one of the true atrists out there. I love him. I also think Sufjan Stevens is amazing - a true original. Illinois comes out in a week or so. I started watching American Idol about five weeks ago. A friend called and asked had I been watching the show...I told her no. SHe said check it out tonight...check out Bo. SHe went on to say that Bo reminded her WHY she liked rock and roll. So I guess you could say I sort of got hooked and watched it to the end. I thought Carrie could sing...she never went flat ..but she was rather boring. Bo I liked............................................ and was pulling for him. Em's original question was would you buy their albums. Carrie's...I don't think so. Bo's? It would depend what songs were on it AND if some of his own material is included. (I understand he writes) I thought Vehicle was his best performance. I wouldn't mind seeing Bo in a venue if it was close to my area. _____________________________________________________________________ Marianne and I watched Magdalene Laundries last night. Throughout the movie I"m thinking to myself...sometimes audibly... this can't be the truth. Surely much of the content was put there to add drama. I thought I need to do some research on the internet...I have to check this out. Sadly..many of the survivors said not only was it true.. BUT conditions were far worse..a thousand times worse.... than shown in the movie. It was disappointing that Joni's song was not played somewhere in the movie. But it was heartening that several websites chronicling the laundries recognized Joni and her song. I thank Joni for putting the* laundries* on the map for us. Have a good and safe weekend everyone. The live versions with Sheryl and Stevie Nicks are particularly appealing. Not a huge crow fan either, but she does have a few decent songs spread across her first two albums mainly. Sheryl has a by-numbers live album featuring her big-name friends, but Chrissie Hynde and Sheryl Crow doing IF IT Makes You Happy makes me wonder why Hynde and Crow don't do a collaborative album (of course, if it's really that good one would imagine that i would have actually listened to that album at some point in the last two years) GARRET NP- Aimee Mann, Susan Date: Fri, 27 May 2005 13:10:09 -0400 From: jrmco1@aol.com Subject: Re: Oops - apologies, Julius njc Not to worry, Azeem. I had never heard of her. This album is splendid. She is described on a sticker on the box as a cross between Patsy Cline and Jeff Buckley. I don't really see the relevance of this description, she doesn't actaully strike me as remotely like either and the only description that would be justified would refer to the strength of songwriting on this album, to her beautiful voice, and the great musicianship on this set of songs. It's a fairly relaxed affair, and very catchy. There are three songs on it that i have been humming for weeks. I will have to follow the career of this lady. Truly great recommendation Bob, wherever do you come across them? Hi, and welcome! What do you like about C&S and FTR? If you like the singing style and the light jazz musical arrangements (to be very reductive) you might want to dip into one of her most controversial albums, The Hissing of Summer Lawns (HOSL). This is the first studio album she made after C&S. If you like the direct and "confessional" style of the lyrics in C&S and FTR, you should probably buy Blue (nobody ever abbreviates this as B, do they?), At 10:32 AM 5/28/2005, you wrote: >Hi everyone. Same goes for "Refuge of the Roads". I think the video itself is waaay dated (as S&L) is, but it was a great time in her performance career in terms of the sounds she was making. Make sense? "Banquet", from "Refuge" is, however, about as low as it gets. Cringingly so... A successful single mother takes an impromptu trip to Italy and fails to return. The chapters alternate between the story of her worried friends, left caring for her six-year-old daughter, and two possible scenarios of what happened to her: a kidnapping or an illicit affair. The characters were well-drawn and the prose style was good, blah blah blah, but I really just enjoyed the nail-biting suspense. >--- Marianne Rizzo wrote: > > > What have you been reading recently? I've been a fan of Sheryl up until her most recent release which was absolutely awful IMO. I lost a lot of respect for her songwriting ability after that.
