That woman doesn't know what she's missing. And for about the worst reason possible too. I don't think any of your 'terrorist' tactics will ever get through to that one ;0) Reminds me of when I was doing music theory class. Our teacher was extremely good in a lot of ways. But most of us had to collectively scoop their bottom jaws off the floor when the subject of Charlie Parker came up. Several of us were fans, several knew his huge contribution to music, but weren't jazz fans. Several had heard the name but didn't know his music at all. One person in the room had NO IDEA who we were talking about. The teacher. How can you immerse yourself in music so much and not have heard of someone of Charlie Parker's stature? Hey ho! Martin. When he overplays it's just downright irritating. Great performances? 'American Buffalo', 'Sleepers', and borderline interesting 'Runaway Jury'. Irritating? I have received a mail from Emiliano asking about room in my (hired) car to go from Barcelona to Corbieres and back. I have promised Emiliano a place, but I'd like to know if anyone else arriving in Barcelona is interested in reserving a place in the car (Chris? Garret? Lieve? Walt? Catherine? Kate? Etcetera?). drop me a mail, offline if you prefer. Bonjour, cher(e)s ami(es)! I just got this email from Boopsie and I am shocked and DELIGHTED! When I saw her name in my inbox I was a little scared to open it.....as you know she can be very rough on me sometimes. I thought she'd be chastising me for writing such a stoooopid story........but no!!! You won't believe her!!!!! What a GREAT GREAT Joni idea she has! Listen, she sings of love so sweet, love so sweet............. Oh and Joni-love can be so sweet! - ----------------- You are going to be amazed at this little idea I had today while working outside: how about we play a part of an appropriate Joni song in the video we are making for David--something that plays in the background as we pan the couple in the receiving line or when guests are coming in or after your speech? What do you think? Start picking out a song now and bring in your CD on Monday! Love you but not Joni, Barbara - ----------------- Now that she is coming around, I now feel safe in divulging her real name, but let's still call her Boopsie, okay? Actually, in our real work-a-day world, I call her "Babsie", so it was an easy stretch from Babsie to Boopsie, if you want to know the Joniomatic logic that goes on in my head. But seriously, isn't that an awesome idea? That way whenever our dear departing department head David watches this video (or shows it to others, like his sons who go to Cornell), Joni will be in the background, subliminally etching her tattoo underneath their skin, and she will then run all through their circuits like a heartbeat. Aha!!! I will convert everyone yet! YES! This is my mission. This is my quest! To follow that Northern Joni star! I will be constant, whether there be shadows or light! No matter how hopeless, no matter how far. To dream the impossible Dreamland! I'd like to teach the world to sing In perfect harmony I'd like to hold it in my arms and keep it company I'd like to see the world for once All standing hand in hand And hear them echo through the hills "Ah, Joni throughout the land" SIQUOMB -- the REAL thing! Okay, now back to serious. What should be playing in the background? What song will be our tattoo for David as he heads out to Kakki and Julius land? (Ooooh...just had a brainstorm...of course!!! ---- "California!") (No! "Peoples' Parties!") Or can you think of something better? HELP ME! When I get this crazy feeling, I know I'm in trouble again. I need your input, babies, and the gift of your extra time, once again. Laughing it all away, Patti P.S. Thanks, Emiliano, and everyone else! I am INDEED having a wonderful time! I'm a 35" says their advertising rep. Lindsay Wagner) They had me fill out a card to enter a drawing for ... a trip to a Radisson hotel in Saskatchewan (seems Radisson hotels will have Sleep Number beds soon). I was all excited about possibly winning. The saleslady said another customer scoffed, saying, "Saskatchewan?! It's freezing cold there and ugly. Who wants to go there?" I'll go! I said, noting "Joni Mitchell is from there." "Oh," she said pleasantly, "so you have your friend to visit there," obviously not having the slightest idea who I was talking about. I'll keep you posted ... Lindsay BTW ... Interestingly, though, these lyrics are incorrect. On the cd and the cd insert, she sings "I bring him apples and cheeses", but our lyrics database says "grapes and cheeses." Also interesting is that this is PROOF that Boopsie went to the jmdl lyrics database, right? She was actually HERE! (She swears she doesn't know WHERE she found the lyrics and that she spent "less than three minutes" googling Joni, but I don't know about that now!) Love, Patti, not usually one to ever quibble, but Geeze Louise, get the lyrics right!!!! I mean, mistakes like these can REALLY mess with my head and I get pretty upset and angry and really really bothered and the day goes dismal and what a SORRY face I get to wear. I'm gonna tell you again now if you're still listening there: if you can't get the JONI words right, how can you get ANYTHING right? The whole WORLD has gone to crap and I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore. I'm going to have to take a flight tonight to Florida and buy a gun and get on Em's small white bed and just blow my freakin' BRAINS out. I hate it when this happens!!! P.S. Lest you worry, I am only kidding. Really!!! Actually, Marianne's news report got me laughing so hard that I couldn't stop. I mean, if the *JMDL* gives me a hard time about quoting Joni, how bad can my condition really be? I'm certifiable, I guess, but I don't go there alone. You are all just a bunch of ENABLERS!!!! The ones with significant improvement are Court & Spark and STAS. These will say HDCD somewhere on the back of the CD case. The gold CD issue of Blue is the best (out of print). The Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab WTRF is the best (out of print). (Find them on ebay). DED in the Geffen box reportedly much improved. The recent compilations are remastered, too-but may not sound much different. It's a very early rendition, and also includes a great third and final verse, which was omitted from the version on "Ladies of the Canyon." Even a line of these lyrics taken from the JMDL pages, don't match exactly what she sings on the disc. In parentheses (on one line) are the lyrics she sings on the "Second Fret" CD: (As sung at the 2nd fret on Oct 12, 1967:) He's acted down all evening Maybe it's over now Maybe she's finally leaving I'd like to show her now But friends are friends forever So hard to change their role Laugh with him, cry together A friend feels so old (Hey friend, it feels so whole) But you keep your feelings deep inside You talk of them and think of pride Now is the wrong time But maybe if a dozen days are warm and right You'll hear him say "I've wanted you baby for such a long time" So here are even more lyrics for you to explore and have fun with! I enjoy your posts!! Best regards, Gary (who loves early Joni, and all Joni, of course!)
