It's very cher-like. The thing with me about Tori is that she is a PRODIGY on the piano, and she seldom shows that aspect of her talent anymore. I had seen her perform live right before she hit it big, and she was amazing. Her first two cd's were wonderful, and I enjoyed much of the third. But then she just lost me. Scarlet's Walk was pretty boring, although I revisited it a year later and found that quite a bit of it found its way under my skin (in a good way), particularly GOld Dust, the closing track. I played the new Cd once, and could barely get through it. I think Bob came up with the moniker "borey Amos" although a dear departed friend of mine who hated her music called her "Tore-yur Anus" Ken - -----Original Message----- From: Catherine McKay To: kjhsf@aol.com; scjoniguy@yahoo.com; joni@smoe.org Sent: Sun, 1 May 2005 18:52:25 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Re: Speaking of Tori.... now njc - --- kjhsf@aol.com wrote: > Thanks for the link, Bob! Or maybe I would have. Who the hell knows? I haven't heard the new one yet, but I always wonder, WHY does she have to massacre vowels the way she does? I was listening to something the other day, i don't remember what it was, but my daughter wanted to know what language she was singing in! Uh, well, it's English, but there's something VERY strange about the way Tori pronounces her words that can be very annoying and distracting. Wuddup widdat? Inexplicably, I have developed some kind of ear condition where my left ear keeps filling up with fluid that will not go away. It is affecting my hearing, and I've undergone 1 myringotomy invloving puncturing the eardrum (OOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCHHHHHH) and vacuuming the fluid out. However, the fluid returned within a week, and hasn't responded to prednisone, and now the Doctor is recommending a surgery to place a tube in the eardrum. Has anyone had this done? I can't decide whether or not to see if this goes away on its own (Its been going on for months, and so I think not), but I am very concerned about possible hearing loss from this procedure. If anyone would like to email me about their experience with this off list, I would greatly appreciate it! I am told it happens alot with children, but is rare in adults, ad it's got me kinda spooked. This post might strain the definition. Here in North America, dozens of radio stations have been bought up by just a few corporations. The worst of the bad is Clear Channel Communications. They have instituted shorter play lists for many stations, reducing the number of voices heard. To make matter worse, they branched out into promoting live shows. So, one company is deciding who gets airplay, who plays in town, and who's shows get free spots. I've been tilting at this particular windmill for a few years now, likening it to a "Holy Jihad, in the name of Singer-songwriters". The Jihad is over and the good guys won. Clear Channel Communications Inc. has decided to divest themselves of the live entertainment division. In the end, the decision had nothing to do with singer-songwriters, of course. Clear Channel is just chasing the dollars. The live entertainment division wasn't returning margins ("profits", kids) as well as the on-air division and the billboard division. Rather than confuse themselves with lower profits, they decided to let someone else promote local concerts. I'm not an attorney or a songwriter but, (as a business major and a music fan) I think this is really, really good news. If you're feeling flush, you might make an offer for Clear Channel Entertainment. This can only be good for the small music venues here in town. Ring them bells. The good guys won.
