I'm not into SD much, but I'm a bit of a poetry and lyrics buff and I can't stop smiling at your "wonderwaif" coinage. It works nicely, and that's what one's poetic license is for. "Frillage" doesn't quite cut muster though, in my humble. :-) How 'bout something about "oil spillage" on that line instead, foreshadowing her future "Sex Kills"? Or not. Thanks for the sharing your wonderful wit, walt. - -Julius Hey, Julius! Shadowing "Sex Kills" indeed. Notice in my version, I did NOT change the line about "Who makes the traffic interesting?", which of course tempted me to put something in about "just ice" -- and absolutely, "oil spillage" came to mind (it ain't that easy to rhyme with "village", which is what I was aiming for -- the original line says "Now you're the wonderwaif of Gramercy Park" -- which means I can't take credit for "wonderwaif" either! Anyway, to restrict myself, I tried to adhere to their rhyme schemes as much as possible, and I also restricted myself to "early" Joni, hence the references to JT, Crosby, Mama Cass, pianos in Spain and dulcimers in Greece. Um, I'm also working on a rewording of "Gaslighting Abby", also from SD's "Two Against Nature" that's a gentle prodding of the *current* Joni to get back to work. I'm thinking of calling it "Goosing Our Joni", and changing the theme of the original song (which is an updating of the movie "Gaslight", in which a rotten guy and his girlfriend conspire to drive the man's wife mad so he can get rid of her and have the new chick, in case you're not familiar) to teasing Joni (**very gently** of course) and suggesting new ideas (among which, the ones I cited a week or so ago, about a two-CD set for her grandkids, one CD of her songs that have for better or worse becdome kiddie classics -- and maybe some new ones -- and the other CD containing her four or so Christmas songs -- Magi, River, Chinese Cafe and Facelift, perhaps others -- Winter Lady? -- plus any Christmas carols she'd like to add, or even new Christmas songs penned by herself, or Jane Siberry or Michael Franks, or...). The double CD would be a special edition with lots of artwork -- maybe larger than the usual jewel case, and maybe containing poster-sized reproductions of one or more of the best art (the pic of her and Kilauren and the kids floating above Paris comes to mind). Speaking of which, w/r/t "Goosing Our Joni", I'd love any suggestions for gentle humor or other novel suggestions that I could incorporate into "Goosing..." Anyone who's interested and doesn't have "Two Against Nature" and would like to see the original lyrics to get a feel for the original song, contact me off-list! Shawn IS wonderful live! Not only is it a pleasure to hear her play and sing, but she's very funny and involves her audience as much as possible. I've seen Shawn in Houston (1993? with a band), Austin (1994 or 1995; 1st row, with Stuart Smith on lead guitar and Larry Klein on acoustic bass), San Antonio (1998; solo), and most recently in Elmer, NJ (2004; also solo). I think my favorite was the Austin show; it was the last show of her tour that year, and she was home in Austin (where she lives). As for albums, I still believe "Steady On" to be her finest work. Reportedly a peace advocate, quoted as saying he doesn't know if there is such thing as a just war. So that's good anyway. Scarier to me is the John Bircher-type Bolton who Bush is trying to install as UN Ambassador. Just what we need, an isolationist hawk asshole. He was the same guy who, a lawyer, burst into Florida announcing he was from the Republican party, saying "stop the recount" that got Dubya in the White House. Or maybe it was those Jewish folks who voted for Buchanon. What so proudly we heil. The Pope smokes dope. Happy 4/20! The Church WILL NEVER change with the so-called times...the 70's liberalism that reared it's ugly head and tried to water down..apply it's situational ethics... throw moral absolutes out the door has been crushed in the Church. The Greeley's are old news! And thank God because I for one think the more conservative the better.. he's the pope for gosh sakes. This pope is the Vicar Of Christ...the guardian of Catholic truth..doctrine. He's the servant of TRADITION not the master. As I heard Laura Ingram say today..."Would his critics been happy if he had thrown out condoms after it was announced he was the pope to the throngs at St. Peter Basilica?. I'm just amazed how the left has reacted to this man...it's funny and a little infuriating at the same time to me. I've heard people that know him up close and personal..Pope Benedict XV1....that he's nothing like the left has portrayed him...this pathetic caricature. He's brilliant...and most importantly he's a listener. That's why the cardinals from third world countries have such respect for him. As proven by the fact he was elected in the shortest conclave ever. I want to get to know him better but for the time being it's comforting that John Paul 11 has such respect and admiration for the new pope. No SILLY PUTTY POPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, Bree, but would it have been too much to ask for someone younger and cuter? Maybe a hot African or Latino for a change? Bree also said: > I'm just amazed how the left has reacted to this > man...it's funny and a > little infuriating at the same time to me. Bree, I don't think it's just the left getting it wrong here -- it's everyone. They just don't get what Catholicism is, or has every intention of continuing to be. For example, the media have been trying to make a deal about the pope being in Hitler Youth well over a half century ago. And their point is -- WHAT? The man is a Catholic, so if he ever felt that he had sinned by being a Hitler Youth, if he was "heartily sorry," he would have confessed, prayed, made a novena or two -- then he have been forgiven and the steaming stains would have been removed from his soul and his slate wiped clean from that moment forward with God and the Church. I am no fan of the Catholic church at all, but I think I have a pretty good grasp on what it is and what it will remain, no matter what the hell I think. - --Smurf, really saddened that Ricky Martin didn't get chosen pope. Ricky really could use a hit right around now and the church sure could use another path through la vida loca Tired of spam? Yahoo! Thanks for the report. Was it recorded? Do you have charts for the arrangements? Maybe we can get you booked in New Orleans to do that music here (maybe sans play). I promise to help in so many ways. But singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell - who was born in Alberta but grew up in Saskatoon - is not expected to perform. Lieutenant-Governor Lynda Haverstock said it took hours of personal phone conversations to get Mitchell to simply attend. "What I did was to make the case that this event is not about any one individual, that this event is about the people of Saskatchewan, people like her parents," Haverstock said. "When it became not about her, she was very interested in being here." Mitchell, once best known for hit songs like Big Yellow Taxi, has essentially retired from performing and in recent years has focused her creative energies on her paintings. She's been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and has received the Order of Canada. Haverstock also announced that Saskatchewan comedian Brent Butt will emcee the gala and CBC Television will broadcast the event across its network. The arena show has a budget of $2.5 million. The CBC broadcast will be live to Eastern Canada and tape-delayed for viewers in Saskatchewan. It will air locally at 8 p.m. central time. About half of the tickets to the May 19 show have been sold. ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2005 #171 ***************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
