I would love Moby or Massive Attack to do some remixes of some of Joni's music. How about a Massive Attack remix of Amelia? Kruder and Dorfmeister remix of Song For Sharon? Moby could remix Harlem In Havana. De Phazz could definitely do a great remix of Paprika Plains. How about BT doing a remix of Lakota? The possibilities are endless. Something like those Verve Remixed albums. It's better than the deck chair reshuffling she's been doing. Cheerz, Janet & Deanna Ivy the Wonderkitty, who messes around (nonmusically) every chance she gets, especially if Fishy treats are involved. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Apr 2005 15:44:26 +0100 From: "Paul Castle" Subject: Laura Nyro (njc) Gary Z wrote > Yesterday, was the 8th Anniversary of Laura's passing. Thanks for posting this link, Gary - really enjoyed listening to it. I was amused to learn that she was born Laura Nigro and had orginally wanted her stage name to be Laura Niagara - until it was pointed out to her that if she were to trip over at any time, the headlines would read "Niagara Falls". Listening to the show prompted me to visit www.lauranyro.com where I found (at the bottom of the home page) a 15 minute version of "Upstairs By A Chinese Lamp" (from 1970's "Christmas & the Beads of Sweat") - such a wonderful song, especially when looking out of the window over the rooftops on a sunny Sunday afternoon here in Springtime London. "Spring has swept the scarlet side streets Winds caress, undress, invite Upstairs by a china lamp They softly talk in the cool spring night." best to all PaulC ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Apr 2005 11:14:33 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Laura Nyro (njc) 1. It would be totally cool if someone with the capability of doing this could grab a copy of the BBC thing and share it with people, oh, say, through a DC++ sharing hub or some such thing. Dum-di-dum-di-dum.and then those of us with access to that could share with others that don't have access to the DC++ thing... 2. If I recall from the Michelle Kort bio, her family's name was indeed Nigro, which the family chose to pronounce with a long I in order not to sound like Negro, which might be perceived as racist by some, and made fun of by others. Then when she decided to call herself "Nyro", she went with the long -ee- sound, whereas many of us would want to use a long I for the Ny part. Odd little chick, that Laura, but wouldn't you have loved a chance to meet her? Paul Castle wrote: Gary Z wrote > Yesterday, was the 8th Anniversary of Laura's passing. I managed to get the whole album and a hell of alot more. If Rufus Wainwright can release an album like Want Two, be acclaimed, and sell more than a few copies why oh why can't Sony see that this album by Fiona Apple is not all that off the wall. She stared and stared at her (and thought, 'How could Lindsay "drop by" to see this??') and finally asked her, "Does anyone ever tell you you look like a famous person?" She said, "Yes, Faye Dunaway, Michelle Phillips of the Mama's and the Papa's, and some woman named Joni Mitchell. I guess she's in a band or something." AGGGHHH!
