It would be nice to see Cher do this type of music now. It would be a way for her to age a little more gracefully and still have a singing career. With the talk of compiling the whole of the top 50 list . How about someone nominate themselves as list master. Each participant then picks one song from their list (not Joni) and we compile a cd or two of the chosen songs. Each lister can email the song title to the list master, if the list master cant get the song by means fair or foul then the chooser can send the song to the list master. Its a bit involved and a little complicated but I think it may be a lovely thing. we send our song in secret without sharing ideas on the list and see what comes up. Imagine 12 somewhere over the rainbows, 2 dylans and a handful of Babs !!! If anyone wants to take this on I'm imagining it would be a rewarding experience cos you get to choose the order of the songs. If there are no takers I'd be prepared to do it.....but only if there are no takers. Subject: Will, Grace, Ellen, Dharma, Greg and Joni in Fiction I've been looking for the Joni episode on "Will and Grace" hoping to add it to my DVD collection. Bob, I know you have this already under "Joni in Fiction" but since I looked this up, I thought I would share it with the list and any members who may not have been aware of this episode. You can see the mention here, but Joni's name doesn't appear until the bottom of the page - http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/GuidePageServlet/showid-154/epid-1971/ And what's up with that being the lowest rated show of the season?? But here's one I don't think you have Bob. Another Joni mention was on Episode 78 from the 4th Season of "Ellen" in an episode called "Ellen Unplugged." There is no mention of Joni at the below link, but the episode involves Ellen going to music camp and when Ellen meets guest star David Crosby, she doesn't believe it's really him, and introduces herself and her friends by saying, "Yeah, and I'm Joni Mitchell and this is Peter, Paul and Mary." Queen Latifah, Aaron Neville, Bonnie Raitt and Cheryl Crow also guest star in this episode. http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/GuidePageServlet/showid-490/epid-28682/ There was also an episode of "Dharma and Greg" with a Joni mention, but since it wasn't central to the plot (and I forgot what the episode was about) it would take luck or a DVD set to find it, unless someone else here remembers it. I think it was Greg's mom who had a new hairdo, and her husband (?) exclaims.."She looks just like Joni Mitchell!" I have a VHS of this somewhere...I'll try to find it. I used to have all his stuff through '91 or '92, but I now just have a couple of them. I decided to get the Rhino Records 2-cd comp called "The Art Of Love: The Michael Franks Anthology". Now, I knew that John Guerin had appeared on many of Franks' albums -- his cute mug was on the back of the LP of The Art Of Tea -- but I hadn't known that they co-wrote (at least) one song together: "Don't Be Blue", a nice bouncy number (the version on the comp CDs is from a live performance in, I think, Australia, but I'm sure there was a regular studio version at some point that got a lot of airplay on lite jazz stations. Many of us watched the same, ahem, show. But your query about Tom's dick reminded me of this story I had read by '50s sex goddess Mamie van Doren. In it, she gives what she calls "the answer to the Tom Jones conundrum." Enjoy! << From http://www.mamievandoren.com/bedtimearchive01.html >> I was listening to Howard Stern one morning earlier this year when I caught an interview he did with Cassandra Petersen, aka Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. Howard was pumping Cassandra, as he does all his guests, for intimate details of celebrities she had slept with when she mentioned an affair she'd had with Tom Jones. Howard pressed for details and she said that Tom was huge--that she could barely walk when they were done. Not long after that, Mary Wilson of the original Supremes was Howard's guest, and said in passing that she too had boinked Tom. When Howard quoted Cassandra that Tom was huge, Mary remarked, "That girl's lyin'." This brought to mind the different views of President Bill Clinton's penis expressed by Gennifer Flowers (kind of small) and Monica Lewinsky (really big). I suppose that one girl's Louisville slugger is another girl's fly swatter, but the facts are the facts and tape measures don't lie. I can't speak for the Presidential pecker, but I am prepared to reveal the answer to the Tom Jones conundrum. Some of you may not remember when Tom Jones hit the U.S. record charts. From the early 1960's Tom Jones, who was born in Wales, began making records in Britain. When I met him in 1965 he had two hits on U.S. charts: It's Not Unusual and What's New Pussycat? His onstage act was regarded as wildly sexual because of his gyrations, much like Elvis a decade or so before, and because of the obvious bulge in his pants. He was banned from television in England and looked at suspiciously by the networks in the states. I was working at the Latin Quarter in New York when Tom called and asked if I'd like to go out. It was the perfect combination: the sexy blonde who was too hot for tv and the sexy Welshman who was too. I said yes. I began to think about that bulge. It spoke volumes to me (as I'm sure it did to his other female fans) of the treasures that must lie beneath. We had a pleasant dinner somewhere and went back to my place. We made out for a while. When the time seemed right we made ready to f*ck. Tom took that bulge into the bathroom to get undressed, but when he came out it was gone! Tom was not sporting a slugger, alas, but a rather unimpressive swatter. I didn't whip out a tape measure, but it must have been four or so. I made the best of it that I could. We did the nasty and parted company. If you've read my article in Glamour Girls: Then and Now on penis size, you know that I have a certain ideal when it comes to a man's most intimate of areas. I don't like HUGE, but I do like size. Tom and I went out once more, and I didn't turn him down at the end of the evening, but all in all, it fell short. And so the winner is Mary Wilson with the correct answer: it wasn't that big. And Elvira? I like to think she was being kind, or telling Howard what he wanted to hear. It was most certainly not unusual. Mamie doesn't lie, kids. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - 250MB free storage. Do more. Mamie appeared at the party he was throwing, and I have to say that while she may have been a sex goddess in the past, as Eddy (AbFab) would say, "Mr. Gravity has been very unkind to that woman", she definitely wasn't looking her best. As an aside, Ruby is one of my favourite comedians (her book "How Do You Want Me?" is hilarious, but she had a childhood to rival Joan Crawford's kids....) I'm not sure if I've mentioned this here before (probably) but the stand-out moment of this show was when she was interviewing the "bunnies" in Hefner's mansion. They were talking about how there was no jealousy and one of the woman said "it's just like a big sorority, and we're all sisters"! Ruby paused, then replied, "Yes, but you're all sleeping with Daddy..." Went over like a ton of bricks. Her first official > record should come out soon I'll say she has fire in her belly! This is a little bit about Martha's song for Louden, from a Melbourne, Australia pub called The Age, from 1/31/05 : And now younger sister Martha has written her own song about dad, a blistering tune called Bloody Mother F---ing A--hole Here's Rufus on Martha, from The Daily Telegraph (Australia) 1/13/05 : Wainwright jokes that one of his Australian touring companions - younger sister Martha - could indeed usurp his own throne in the alternative music world. The mischievous troubadour doles out lavish praise for his sister while accusing himself of suffering a modicum of sibling rivalry. "Now I have to say with Martha's first album coming out, there's to be some adjustments made. I used to be the youngest one with a record deal," he laughs. "I am very, very proud of her. I believe Martha has more of a chance in this climate of being a huge pop star. I really do think she's amazing. And you have to feel that way or else you are in hell." And here's Rufus on giving his parents their due, 2/4/05 -- also in The Age: Regardless of sexual orientation, songs such as Gay Messiah and Old Whore's Diet are raunchy enough to make any parent blush. How does Wainwright feel when he's on stage with his mother, aunt and sister, as he was in Sydney last week and Melbourne last night, luxuriating in the more decadent corridors of his soul? "Oh, I love it," he says. "I've always loved scandalising my parents, if only because they scandalised me as a child. My mother would force me to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow and The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow for her friends at three in the morning. So however freaked out they get, they definitely deserve it." * * * I'm looking forward to hearing Martha's album. OK. Sorry. I'll stop now with the Wainwright stuff. I know I'm getting to be like a certain Eminem fan. I just couldn't help myself, which I suppose is not a very good excuse. Nighty-night, - --Smurf __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? (njc) I was in a store downtown last summer, and they were playing some AM radio station, and the song was Somewhere by Dionne. I thought it was entrancing, so I looked in several stores for a copy of it, but I could not find it. Does anyone know what LP it was on? So much of her original stuff seems to be out of print. BTW Dionne did an excellent recording of another Broadway song - Where Am I Going from Sweet Charity.
