No Mark, but what you CAN do is filter out the NJC (no Joni Content) by resubbing to an 'only-Joni' option. Another alternative is to contribute Joni stuff yourself - people will typically respond to Joni comments. I know that I've responded to several of your posts. Keep in mind, most of us that contribute in this forum have been doing so for over 5 years. While I signed on for the Joni chatter, and do lots of it, it's just as enjoyable to debate/discuss other topics as well or sometimes just be silly. Lord knows that Joni's work deals with everything, so why shouldn't we? I was in college, living in a big victorian (now I am one) with about 30 other guys. One guy, who had never studied music at all, decided to take the intro to piano course, and the prof allowed them to pick a piece they wanted to do as their final performance project. Kenny went right out and bought the sheet music to Bohemian Rhapsody. There were two music majors in the house, but they were grumpy and, taking one look at the piece, each said "@#$%^* no!" I was the only other person in the house who could play, so I took Kenny and the piece on. But I'd never heard the piece, and when I looked at it, I laughed and said, "Huh! Can I *hear* this?" I liked it even better when I heard it, and set out to learn to play it myself, and then *try* to teach it to Kenny. We both quicky realized he was out of his depth, and he gave up one day, saying, "What am I going to do ?-- I've got like three days left." He didn't like Burt B. or Joni, but I also had the Paul Simon Omnibus, and we managed to find something the prof could live with, but which Kenny could play. It's funny what the two music majors -- who were *almost* strict classicists - -- would tolerate, and what they hated. One of them, I remember, never noticed anything I played until one day when he heard me play Burt B's "Wives and Lovers" (a jazz waltz), and he just had to learn it himself. The other was intrigued with Joni's more classical-sounding stuff, say BIond in the Bleachers or Ludwig's tune, or the fade-out to Car On a Hill. Neither could stand any of Laura's stuff -- one of them dismissed it as sup-par Erik Satie or Bela Bartok. Savages! (the music majors, not the composers), although the one who made the comparisons did give me the first book of Microcosmos to struggle through, and Satie's Gymnopedies. Funny, I'd forgotten about all this until this discussion. He was sidelined for a long while so Jed promoted CJ to Chief of Staff. **** CJ **** CJ put Toby in charge of finding a replacement for the press officer position. He was briefing the press for a while and, as you can imagine, hijinks ensued. **** Toby **** The only thing he did right was to bring in a consultant to expedite the search for a press officer. She's the same height as Niki Johnson and she immediately took charge. At first she was coaching Toby on "selling" to the press corps but then she pulled him (so as not to sink the entire Administration!) Sample question to Toby: "Since CJ is the first Chief of Staff who's also a woman, how do you feel about that?" Toby: "She'll do fine." Followup: "How do you feel about having CJ as a boss?" Toby: "I don't have a problem with CJ!" Followup: "What if she has a problem with the staff? How will she handle it?" Toby: "I dunno! She'll deal with it! Maybe she'll hit them with her purse. How should I know?!" He caught all kinds of grief for that, of course. The "consultant" has been briefing the press ever since. **** Jed **** President Bartlett was on his way to China when the MS hit him hard for the 1st time. On the plane he was paralyzed and CJ wanted to return to DC. Jed said "no" so they went on. CJ cut short many of his meetings so he could save some energy for the last scheduled discussion: Asking China to reign in North Korea. The next week he fell in the bathroom and told Mrs. Bartlett, "I can't DO THE JOB ANYMORE, Abbey." CJ has told Debbie (the secretary played by Lily Tomlin) to schedule afternoon naps which he hates, of course. **** VP **** The VP is a jerk. He's constantly making short-sighted statements, designed to distance himself from the lame duck administration to improve his odds of election. **** Fitz **** General Fitzwallace died in a road-side bomb attack on the West Bank. Donna was in the same SUV and was in a wheelchair for a while. **** Donna **** Besides amazing great looks, Donna's got a great head on her shoulders. Although Josh used her research all the time, he didn't give her much room to grow. (Except for that time he let her go to the West Bank.) After trying to have a serious conversation with Josh for weeks, Donna finally quit to work for Will on the VP's election committee. Since the VP is more of a career politician than a leader, I'm hoping she wises up and helps Josh. **** Will **** One of the newer people, Will Bailey, is working for the VP. Will's too smart to back a loser without having an escape hatch as Plan B. **** Josh **** Josh won't help the VP so instead he flew out to Texas to talk to Senator Santos, who is retiring. Josh convinced the Senator (played by Jimmy Smits) to run in the New Hampshire primary & Josh is his campaign manager. When Josh broke the news to Toby, Toby asked, "What? How are you going to tell him? >Mister President, I've found a 'better horse'?>" Obviously my favorite character is the ultra-blunt depressive, Toby (unless you count Donna, for the eye candy appeal). So Josh quit. Last week almost the entire episode was Josh and Santos on location in New Hampshire. It was like "Hill Street Blues" or "Northern Exposure" where the show is completely different for one episode. Josh made the Senator help citizens with their recycling at the town dump. So far there's been more arguing than co-operating between those two. So, on the Democrat side of the primaries, we have the former VP who quit in disgrace over a sex scandal (the actor was in Animal House), the current VP (Russell?) who's a loser, and Senator Santos. Only one Republican has announced he's running. He polishes his own shoes and quotes the Framers at the drop of a hat. Obviously he's the "Worthy Adversary" archetype, played by Alan Alda. And that's all I have to say about that. Say "hi" to the gang for me.
