'Cianure' is cyanide. A crime that has just been 'prescribed' means that the statute of limitations has run out. The real story is very interesting about how he managed to kill himself with cyanide with the help of a dozen or so people (one bought the cyanide, another left it in the kitchen, another poured it into a glass, another switched on the video recorder etc) and as euthanasia is illegal in Spain nobody could be identified as responsible for aiding Sampedro's death because the 'crime' was committed by various hands. Maria Maneiro has now confessed what was common knowledge because I believe she can not now be prosecuted for her 'offence'. I think Vanilla Sky was based on 'Abre Los Ojos' (which is a sensational film) and directed by Cameron Crowe, so whether it's an Amenabar film is a matter of opinion. Didn't read your original closely enough! Hi again Colin, You are not alone Colin... The degree I have is probably one of the most misunderstood or not understood degrees in medicine. A medical PhD is an academically higher degree than an MD. Generally, in the USA, the PhD students take the same basic medical science classes as the students on the MD track, but after the first two years, those on the MD track rotate through clinics while those on the PhD track continue with advanced medical science courses and rotate through medical research labs. Whereas, the MD students pick a clinical specialty, the PhD students pick a research specialty... mine was Alzheimer's disease/neurodegenerative illnesses. The MD students graduate and go on to do a residency; whereas, the PhD students do a residency while a doctoral candidate, and after they are awarded a PhD, they do a postdoctoral fellowship. If the MD's want, they can go into clinical practice after they do a residency, or they can do a postdoctoral fellowship and go into a specialty. MD's with specialized degrees often work hand in hand with PhD's in similar specialties to find new ways to treat patients and toward the understanding of disease processes. I have worked with a number of neurosurgeons as well as neurologists, and psychiatrists. No one needs reply really, I have been a horrid corresondent of late. Having just moved, new job, I have not had much Joni time but I read everything because I cherish this community. Anyway I started coming down with the flu - the real flu - on Monday. Tuesday was horrid, Wednesday just one of the worst days ever, and today is horrid so I suppose that is a step up. Of course all the power went out in Muskegon at 10:20 pm last night. Somewhere about 2 or 2:30 am my neighbors decided to have a brawl. I did not hear it. but somewhere along the line the fight involved fire extinguishers and pulling the fire alarm which did wake me up. I checked my apartment door for heat, it wasm't, opened the door, and saw this smoke (it latter turned out to be mist from the fire extinguisher but it sure as hell looked like smoke) so I called 911. So picture smoke in the hallway, I have the flu and in my underwear, awoke from a needed and deep sleep, no electricty - and my old dog (all lovable 90 pounds of his 13 year old self) cannot walk up or down a stair case, his hips won't allow. In the dark I dressed enough, got the dogs, and carried my old dog to the outside. After an hour or so we were allowed to return into the building and still no power (no elevator) so I had to carry him up. God I love that old dog. But it almost killed me. But I'd die to save him. This flu is like nothing I have ever had. The doctor said Comtrex. So I am taking that. I feel soo wiped out though. I hate missing work, a whole lot, not a good first impression on a new job. But doing this email is such an effort, I cannot believe how wiped out the flu makes you feel. I did want to lose a few pounds and the flu is a great way - I can't stand up to cook, no appetite anyay, and delivery is all stuff I cannot eat, am allergic to, pizza and all, as you know. And I am too new in this town to ask anyone to pick anything up for me. So I have not essentially eaten in two days and not really hungry at all. I had a few yeast free crackers last night and that was a lot of effort and filled me up like I had a huge feast. I wonder if that is a flu symptom. Anyway I have always wanted to watch in a row all 16-18 episodes of Jewel in the Crown back to back. The dvd player is about all the strength I have to operate with 4-6 episodes on a disc so I guess it is about 20-22 hours altogether and is a better way to pass the time than early morning in the dark fire alarms. That is all that is new here. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jan 2005 15:29:00 -0600 From: "Donna Binkley" Subject: Re: hits, Chinese Cafe in particular Bob, you could make that 2 covers of Ethiopia if you included your own, done at Jonifest at Full Moon a couple of years ago. As a noun, it is used most often in exclamatory constructions, such as: "Whadda deke!" I just can't see Harold and Maude without Bud Cort and the wonderful Ruth Gordon. Some things just can't be improved on, imo. This is one of those movies that made a huge impact on me when I was a teen. Later I met and became friends with someone who was like Maude in many ways. However, I love it for sentimental reasons, and damn, our Joan just sounds so happy when she's crazy in love! Keep warm (minus 51 here with the windchill - I am not making this up), Rob ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jan 2005 23:13:34 -0600 From: "mia ortlieb" Subject: re: hits <> This is funny, because I remember when I bought WTRF the late 80's, there was a sticker attached to the record's plastic wrap that said something like "featuring the hit Chinese Cafe/Unchained Melody." The reason I remember that sticker is because I always thought it was strange that Chinese Cafe was mentioned when I considered it one of the weaker songs on the record. (still a good song though, and I often wondered about the child she couldn't raise. I thought perhaps this was a child she gave up in her later adult years before we ever learned about Kilauren). WTRF is such a great album. Songs like Moon at the Window, Be Cool, and Ladies Man have such a unique and intense combo of rock and groovy jazz...
