The other good thing about them is that they are supposed to last for years and years. In my area (Boston, Massachusetts) the gas/electric company provides a service where they send in an energy auditor to tell you where you can tighten things up...having a home that is about 130-years old means having to fix lots of things and having lots of drafts and the like. Well, the guy came and he GAVE me a half dozen of these bulbs along with a catalogue for buying them at greatly reduced prices. Well, as my later post reveals, I managed to get that one done, but there are two others just like it that need putting on. They will be a breeze after the first one. All that trouble for a stinkin' $10 light fixture but it does look kind cute now that it's there. My daughter has this thing about lights and lamps and I will be monitoring the hydro bill (these things use 25 watt lightbulbs, but there are a bunch of 'em!) ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Jan 2005 18:37:15 -0500 (EST) From: Catherine McKay Subject: RE: Shawn Colvin now toilets and other home handiwork and now njc --- Maggie McNally wrote: > Catherine, et al...just wanted to mention that there > are newish light bulbs that are actually florescent > but behave as though they were incandescent (the > kind of light they throw, that is) and yet a bulb > that is like 60 watts of light is actually using > only about 15 watts of power. They screw into a regular light socket and they're supposed to last a lot longer than the incandescent ones. I wish Pat McFadden was still on the list to do his top 10 quotes from the JMDL list. I can still remember a few years ago when one of the top 10 was from Patrick in NY with his reply to Paul IV "Yuck and Fuck You". I had started one for 2004, but it was all lost when my computer crashed. I just remember one last January when Colin was talking about masterbating his dogs to get the females pregnant. I am very rich and very loved indeed - if only I had something to show for it! I guess there must be some people that get sucked in by this stuff, otherwise I guess they wouldn't be doing it. I've never actually read enough of the posts to see if they have any personal info on me, like my address, but then again, if you're in the phone book, that's available online, and potentially anyone could get that information. I don't believe these people work that hard at it and I don't believe they actually look it up so, to whomever it was (Ron, I think?) that suggested that it had probably come from someone's personal address book, that probably makes more sense, unless there's a spam program that harvest this info from online white pages, which is, I suppose, possible. I even get spam at work, despite the fact that we supposedly have very good spam filters - those are usually the penijs enlaarger ads, cuz these people deliberately spell words (like phramacy) wrong, in the hope of fooling the spam filters; either that or they can't spell (also quite likely). ===== Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Jan 2005 18:40:24 -0800 (PST) From: mags h Subject: Dr .Joni Mitchell on CBC television hot off the press .... In a word, wow! a wonderful programme, and tribute to Joni. To see Joni and Kilauren together in Montreal at McGill University, fantastic!!. I was gushing with pride, teary eyed, the whole bit. Michael O, Im so envious that you were there (happy too!) (paraphrased) Joni said it was a great honour to be recognized for her body of work. She also said she is impatient with some of the theories about her. She finds it problematic when others assume to know exactly what her songs meant, what she was trying to say. Joni went on to say that it's fine and well to have our opinions about her work, the meaning within, however, I got the distinct impression that as long as people didnt say "this" is what she meant, she has no problem with discussions and interpretations . Doug/Catherine...did you catch that part? I was writing/scribbling point form notes like crazy, trying to grasp it all... many highlights for me... Joni singing Dawn Treader, Both Sides Now, early version, sorry I couldnt keep up...and Doug if you did tape this, perhaps you can offer it up as a tree? Please send me a copy ! oh an assortment of performance clips....Take 30 1967, bits of Shadows and Light video, Come in From the Cold video, dancing with Klein, segment from a paper given..."How Black is Joni Mitchell" which is awesome and made me cry, again with such pride for Joni. Id love to hear the whole thing, or read it . Wonder if it is available. Kilauren was in the front row filming the ceremonies , proud daughter that she is. After the degree was bestowed upon Joni, she spoke to a classroom of students. One student wanted to know what advice Joni had for new song writers/musicians. Joni told them not to compromise, and to keep their individuality...the students were thrilled and overwhelmed to be in such close quarters with Joni. The Joni and Kilauren story was told again, and again, tears sprung like rain. No need to explain is there, really? Such a moving tale. Joni reiterated that the painful loss of her daughter had served as inspiration to write so many songs, and now that she has Kilauren back in her life, she no longer has that same need, that same inspiration to write. As soon as the student started talking about their reunion, Joni patted Kilauren's knee, and they kept snuggling into one another, nary a dry eye in the house, Im sure. Another woman (an adoptive mum) spoke to the reunion and she burst into tears , and Joni was quite moved by that. I know this disappoints many fans, however, I'd like to look at this statement from this side now. I'm happy that she has given us so much, such a vast body of work that we continue to be enthralled with, moved by, a body of work which sets her apart from the mainstream and then some. Oh yea, Joni's black alright. There were film clips demonstrating Joni's unique chord positions, complex rhythms and structures. So many things I know Im missing. Back to the classroom, a student brought a guitar up to the front of the class room, and it turned out to be the very first guitar that Joni played. She had borrowed it from the student's uncle. (student's name was Adam??) cant recall, sorry. Joni played a little bit, but not much at all really. As for the future, the said that Joni is working on her autobiography, which we are waiting for with baited breath :-) so proud, so very proud of you Joni... bless your wonderful heart!!!!
