Congratulations, Mikey! You coverboy for philanthropy, you. Clearly, you rock! Siempre! And what a co-inky-dink. I and five other uppity Negroes are pictured on the cover of "MOFO Monthly" magazine's year-end issue! It's on newstands now! See me cheesing alongside my ex-friend Condi Rice, Tiger Woods, Beyonce, Clarence Thomas and that Erkel guy from the old "Family Matters" television show. Check it at: _http://www.step-off-MOFO-befo-I-bust-a-cap-in-yo-ass.com_ (http://www.step-off-MOFO-befo-I-bust-a-cap-in-yo-ass.com) The group photo shoot was a stone groove. They gave me a big vile of crack. It was unsuitable for framing, so me and Condi burned it hard. That's why she's my ex-friend: bitch bogarts...but it's all good. They gave us each a 40 of Shlitz Malt Liquor, too, and promised us 40 acres and a mule, come Monday! A shout-out and a word of advice to all you up-and-comin' MOFOs out there though: Don't mess with "the bull" youngbloods...invariably, you'll get the horns. It TASTES like beer, but when it gets to where it's going, it IS Malt Likka! I finally axed Condi: "Why you trippin', beeatch? It ain't nothing but some vomit. I told you, 'scuse me.' Damn, ho." They shot me solo in-studio, too, Miguel! It's ain't me, but those people, they say that my penis-gourd dwarfs yours in both length and girth...and they observed that my gourd has superior tonality to boot, Esse. Makes Jakarta look like Djabouti, they said. Now, if only I could find somebody who knows how to play the damn thing. I'm just not one to toot my own gourd. You're not really supposed to blow on it, actually, that's just an expression. As it turned out, the photog had to break out her "double-wide angle" lens for the occasion. She couldn't seem to wipe the enigmatic smile off her face...then she mumbled something about "nice talent" and "never going back" in broken Ebonics. Seriously though. I'll be pouring off a cap-full for you tonight, my brother. You remain Da Man. - -Julius Gees, Bob. Ya just had to play the race card, didn't ya? :) Isn't it nice that a Detroit native can be so successful in reaching out to the hispanic community? There's a Veronique Sanson website that has the lyrics to her songs and the webmaster (who is Anglo, by the way), must have run them through babelfish or something similar. She has a song called "Les tyrans" ("Tyrants") and in one section, she lists off names of tyrants/ dictators throughout history. One name is the Chinese one, Chou En Lai (not sure if that's how it's spelled in English but I think you know who I mean.) This translates into English as Cabbage in Lai (with a side order of Idi Amin Dada au Rhum, I guess.) Anyhoo, congratulations, Paz, esp. on your ability to piss people off in two languages. That takes a special kind of talent and I am so proud of you. ===== Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Dec 2004 23:10:48 +1100 From: "ash" Subject: Emmylou update njc Hello out there! can I include this? There are some new songs in the line up, one being Joni's version of At Last, (which was an effort of love to transcribe from strings to piano, but the chord structure is just so darn beautiful that I just HAD to do it). Stephen Stills Love the One Your With gets a pumped up piano/conga version and a brand new song by yours truly, plus a few other surprises. FIRST, I MUST SOLICIT YOUR STRICTEST CONFIDENCE IN THE FOLLOWING MATTER, which, by it's nature must remain completely confidential and "Top Secret". As one who "Knows when you are sleeping" and "Knows when youre awake" i have the greatest confidence in your ability to prosecute a transaction of such magnitude while exercising the utmost discretion. I am not simply a top official, but THE top official at the north pole, home of the wortkshop which bears my name. I have long been engaged in the annual practice of delivering toys to hundreds of millions of deservung little girls and boys. Of course, key to such an undertaking is the importation of RAW MATERIALS to my workshop. Regrettably the funds needed to secure such materials this year are PRESENTLY TRAPPED in a foreign bank account. IN ORDER TO SAVE CHRISTMAS, I MUST SOLICIT YOUR ASSISTANCE TO ENABLE THE TRANSFER OF SAID TRAPPED FUNDS INTO YOUR ACCOUNT. The source of these funds is as follows: During the last Christmas season, a rogue faction of high ranking elves set up numerous fictitious companies, and awarded themselves material contracts at grossly inflated amounts. The scheme was discovered and teh perpetrators punished, but not before an enormous sum of money found its way into a Nigerian bank account. These nefarious transactions have resulted in a current and crippling funding shortfall here at my workshop. at present, IT IS MOST REGRETTABLE TO REPORT THAT MILLIONS OF GOOD LITTLE GIRLS AND BOYS WILL NOT BE GETTING A TOY FROM SANTA THIS YEAR. That is to say, of course, unless you come to our rescue. By virtue of my status as an imginary character, I am not allowed to open a bank account. This unfortunate situation make it impossible for me to effect the transfer of these funds. Hence, myself, and my colleague Mrs. Claus (Otherwise known as Mary Christmas) seek the assistance of an overseas partner into whose account we would transfer the amount of $201,130,000.00 (two hundred and one billion, one hundred and thirty million US Dollars). Please note that I am willing to allocate the funds thus: - 20% for you, my friend, the account owner - 70% for Santa's workshop - 10% to be used in settling taxation, as well as any local or foreign expenses It is with the 70% that I wish to rush-order the raw materials needed by my workshop to ensure EVERY DESERVING CHILD IN THE WORLD receives a gift this christmas. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS TRANSACTION IS 100% SAFE!! I hope to commence the transfer at the earliest possible date, given the lateness of the yuletide season. But first i require some information from you in order to complete the letters of claim, and provide transfer instructions. PLEASE FORWARD THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION BY TEL/FAX; 234-HO-HO-HO At your earlest convenience. Your full name, Social Insurance Number, Banking Institution, account numbers and all relevant passwords. In addition to the 20% of teh funds you will most deservedly retain, I am also willing to issue an unconditional, life time guarantee that secures you a permanent spot on my "Nice List" regardless of any questionable behaviour. We are looking forward to doing this business with you, my friend, and again solicit your confidentiality in this transaction. Please acknowledge receipt of this letter using the above tel/fax nos. Well, it's a continuum ... some of Dylan's melodies may be sketchy compared to some of Joni's, but then some of hers could be considered sketchy compared to some of Pat Metheny's, for instance. However, it's the "sketchiness" of his singing (which I mostly adore) which may obscure just how great some of his written melodies are. If you transcribe the actual notes and play them on a piano it's easier to hear just how brilliant they can be; in particular, his genius for merging the artistic with the populist. Azeem mentions Shawn Colvin's rendition of You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go as the "gold standard" performance of that song. To my ears, Dylan's own version is the gold standard, and one of my favorite of all his recorded performances; Shawn's rendition is wonderful, even matching Dylan's, but as much as I dearly love everything Colvin, let's not put the cart before the horse. - -Fred ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Dec 2004 16:48:49 -0500 From: FredNow@aol.com Subject: Re: Scott Peterson (NJC) Lori Fye wrote: >>I say -- while I realize that being okay with capital punishment is not >>politically correct or maybe even morally correct -- Scott Peterson deserves >>the death penalty, although I think lethal injection is far too kind a way to >>execute him. He really never spit polishes it and therefor leaves a diamond in the rough quality. Its never overweight. Honestly, quite often I can't even compare Dylan to other singer-songerwriters. I mostly feel like he can be compared to, say, Pablo Picasso. Whose works were also, largely not so "finished". (and many others too, not just PP) But in music there is always that temptation to over-produce a thing into the ground in an effort to make it jewel-like or other wise "perfect". And some resist it more successfully than others. Joni resisted for a loooooong time - she held out pretty good. But Dylan, he's like I don't need this crap at ALL. He *needed* to draw; he *needed* to sketch; he *needed* to get things "out". He's a stud!! so very fertile..... A lot of his stuff is sketchy cuz they *are* in a sense quick drawings. Off the cuff. Maye they don't even matter. Good way to avoid pretense! But they're better than drawings, cuz you don't have to look at them - you can close your eyes and kick back and let his LOOSE frameworks render movies and pictures in your brain in TANDEM with your own mind. The looseness helps! Lovely things that man has caused to wash over my brain over the years. And the music, I think, (I have to add that cuz I am no musician) - you can dress up and finish and polish if you wish to. And certainly thats been done, I'm thinking of Baez's versions, and of course so many others. But somehow the looseness of his own versions end up being more delicious - if minimal. Thats the thing, he's been so often a minimalist. Which I appreciate. Or at least a minimalist in one sense - the musical, the presentation - on one hand, while providing a barrage of imagery that you couldn't really call minimalist in the words he spits, on the other hand. I'm thinking of "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" and others from that era - - but from OTHER eras too! Certain of his songs no one else can top...his original versions are mother's milk to so many people. "To Ramona". Can't nobody do "Ramona" like he did. And then there's just the sheer AMOUNT of stuff. I don't have his book yet, but I really look forward to reading it. Even stuff he wrote not intended to *be* songs per se, are strong as hell. There was this one early album of Baez's that he wrote the liner notes to....christ it just rips my face off! Did then when I was 15 years old, does now and maybe e're more shall. So little in life endures that way. For me, anyway. I adore the man. I just do. And i think he's gorgeous. He just looks right. And there are others who do many of the same things for me - Joni and Leonard Cohen come to mind... but dang its rare. And its not just about song..it goes beyond. What a sweet sweet blessing alllllllllll the music is. And, of course, there's lots of room too, for the perfectly finished, polished, every nuance worked-out stuff too....lol. But I like the unwashed rough stuff. I've been following this case in some depth from the beginning (www.crimelibrary.com is one of my favourite sites), and have even listened to the phone calls made by Peterson to Amber Frey (another innocent victim in all this) - supposedly from Paris, when he was actually at home organising search parties for his missing wife. This guy truly is a low-life, and deserves as harsh a punishment as the law can dish out - but death definitely is too good for him.
