(njc) [FredNow@aol.com] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 3 Nov 2004 23:40:16 EST From: MINGSDANCE@aol.com Subject: Four More Years Hi folks, I'm sure now everyone understands Joni releasing TBOS. She also said in I believe the Gazzet that she despised the Bush Camp but that they would win.I'm sure the women is a gifted "Profit" sent for these troubled times. I can't believe we live in a country with such stupid and "Hateful Christians"! I thought I would share this letter I got this morning from my friend Nick in LA. I believe our only options are to take to the streets like in the 60's to make a change. I hope all of you and your families stay safe. Just remember," It all comes down to you "! Peace Mingus - ---------------------------------- Well, I said I was prepared for either outcome, but I guess I was lying to myself and to you. Depression, anger, sadness ... I'm grasping for words to sum it up. I really thought that America was tired of easy answers, sound bites, shallow media, cheap religion, idolatry, isolationism, anti-intellectualism, and maybe even war, among other things. But I was wrong. I've tried to cheer up by reminding myself that today I would still wake up in the most beautiful of states, which happens to be Bluebbut that makes it even worse, because we endangered Blue states have more to lose and farther to fall, given the irreparable (at least in my lifetime) damage that is surely to come. For a long time I have tried to tell people that Bush wants to make the entire country like Texasbhe said that in his first campaign. What he didn't tell you is that urban Texas, where its culture and political animus flourish, is a crassly commercial, polluted landscape. Expansion of civil liberties means passing a law that allows people to carry guns in church (and when your religion is so vindictive, I can see why). Individuality is prizedbas long as itbs in a) money or b) sports; otherwise you dare not be different. Freedom means a choice between the regular WalMart or the SuperWalMart. Blind and indifferent loyalty is more often important than the truth; gay people were waving American flags at last yearbs pride parade. Justice and due process are available to those with fat wallets and the right skin color (Texas executed a man on Election Day!). Religion/politics/economicsbtheybre all intertwined: Houston is a place that has started the Christmas holiday shopping season (read $$$$) with a Thanksgiving Day fireworks display centered in its Westside Galleria area, the Galleria being its altar to the God of capitalism. The list goes on. I've thought about all the hideous things this administration has done and the lies it has told, and I thought that this time, the rest of the country would wake up and say, bEnough is enough.b But I was wrong. For some time I have been saying we Blue states are too isolated because we donbt see up close that much of the rest of the country really is moving farther to the right, that much of the country doesnbt care about civil liberties, environmental protection, job security, social security, health care, education and world peacebat least in the way that we do. Oh, there are pockets of sanity everywhere, but those can easily be re-districted by Mr. DeLay and others like him. (The Democratic Party is finished as a national force, by the way, one of Mr. Rovebs primary goals.) As I watch this nation lurch to the right, whatbs troublesome is not that fewer and fewer people know the difference, but that they donbt want to. They simply donbt want to be bothered; after all, isnbt there another reality television show coming on soon? Arenbt we right anyway because God is on our side, carrying our weapons, and we can kick anybodybs ass, especially the French? In desperation I say to myself, bWell, if the Berlin Wall can fall... b bbut those people had an example of democracy to emulate. No, the Germany that forces its way into my mind now is that of the 1930s. Think Ibm going overboard? Ask yourself: What now, when there will be no one to account to? What now, with a bpopular mandateb? What now, with a compliant media that dutifully takes and passes on dictation from its pals in government? What now, now that fear works? I thought America might rise to the challenge and take the road less traveled. But I was wrong. Ibm glad I donbt have kids. And Ibm sad and absolutely frightened for those in my family and yours. God help us all. Nick P.S. If youbre inclined, check out Alan Jonesb sermon for Oct. 31 at Grace Cathedralbs web site. Hebs a brilliant Episcopal priest. He asked his parishioners on Sunday what kind of country they wanted for their kids. In hindsight, it helps a little to hear a voice calling for truth. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Nov 2004 20:55:28 -0800 From: "Kate Bennett" Subject: Re: njc To the rest of the world here I just want to say we tried & I'm sorry I did not vote for the man.. I'm gay. If only I went through "therapy" and married a nice dyke, Kerry would be the new president. I'm so ashamed. Okay, all that aside, I voted for Kerry, but here's the real problem with the election--I could never get whole heartedly behind Kerry. He didn't really give me much reason to vote for him. Mostly what I had were reasons to vote against Bush. This is my experience with my circle of friends. We wanted someone different and Kerry was all we had to hope on. I'd move to Canada, but I couldn't take the winters in Chicago. I can't imagine trying farther north. Maybe I should start getting serious about my Spanish . . . One thing I would share with you is that she is musically (in the classical sense) she is lacking. Her brilliance comes from inside thru the tunings and her lyric. She has a crazy ability to make trained musicians as well as guys like me who are musicians of the ear or of another sense that makes her so unique and brilliant in a way that is not described by words. Her sense of music is from her heart, head, and everything around her that sets the tone for all of us to ponder and appreciate so deeply. I recently worked on a tune my friends (Rachel and Vic) brought me that is so amazing. It is a waltz with a tango in the chorus. So unconventional but so brilliant and the lyric is so profound at the same time. I love it when composers come up with this stuff and Spend more time trying to get it down on tape and less time trying to explain it. Hope you have good luck in your dissertation. As usual, the problem is not homosexuals, it is homophobia (though of course the homosexuals are blamed). But even in some progressive circles now there is talk of "abandoning" gay rights in order to be more acceptable in the red states. We (the gays, that is) have just been used by Bush and Rove to get the son of a bitch reappointed. They don't care who they use and abuse as they grab more power (who's next?). The results - more power for them, more isolation for us and a more polarized, gay-hating public (hating us now from both sides, now). Deep shit. Oh, please ... enough already, Bush won, let's stop this idiotic charade. It's testimony to the pure evil genius of Karl Rove that he was able to so successfully market the brand name "Flip Flop" and attach it to Kerry instead of his Teflon-coated boy, the one who in reality hardly wears anything but flip-flops. Consider these few examples: President Junior on creating the 9/11 commission: against it, then for it; on letting Condoleeza testify: against it, then for it; on giving the 9/11 commission a time extension: against it, then for it; on creating the WMD commission: against it, then for it; on mandatory CO2 caps : for it, now against it; on offering North Korea incentives to disarm: against it, now for it; on gay marriage: previous policy was that it's an issue for the states to decide, now it has to be a constitutional amendment; on using the social security trust fund: against it, then for it; on reproductive choice: previously pro-choice, now anti-choice; on patients' right to sue HMOs: for it, now against it; on agreeing to lobby OPEC to lower prices: for it, now against it; on the importance of finding bin Laden: before - "dead or alive," now - "I truly am not concerned about him."; on WMDs : we found them ... oops, no we haven't; on Chalabi: good ... invite him to the State of the Union address, now bad ... raid his house; on creating the department of homeland security: against it, then for it; on supporting the McCain-Feingold bill: against it, then signs it; on winning the war on terror: "Can you ever win the war on terror? Of course, you can." [President Bush, 4/13/04], "I don't think you can win [the war on terror]." [President Bush, 8/30/04], "Make no mistake about it, we are winning and we will win [the war on terror]." [President Bush, 8/31/04] - ----- I can't remember ever being this despondent about external affairs in my life, a life which includes Nixon and Reagan. I woke up this morning with the all consuming thought that I don't want to live in this country anymore. This is supposed to be America ... I never signed up to live in a renegade theocracy. There is no greater irony than half the population exiting the polls saying that on the basis of "moral values" above *any* other issue they voted to give a second term to the most immoral administration America has ever had. Kind of like the abused wife who keeps taking back her husband because she knows that "he really doesn't mean to beat me; I know he still loves me." I urge anyone reading this who still doesn't get it to see the film "Hijacking Catastrophe." We are living in a fundamentalist rogue nation run by neo-con ideologues driven by imperial notions of global domination via American military and economic power. And they're not coy about it, either, it's right out in the open ... take a look at newamericancentury.org and notice the signatories to the Statement of Principles. And now they don't have to worry about being re-elected. The horror ... So I mused on where to move ... France is nice, I've always liked France. But then I realized that even if I were to do so, inevitably BushCo would launch a pre-emptive attack on France. - -Fred ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2004 #447 ***************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
