Agggghhhh! Are you going all *respectable* on us now? Jeez! Well congratulations anyway and good luck too. End Tables are flying off the shelves in record numbers and I'm living in TOTAL FEAR like all upstanding Americans should. Sheesh.< I was blown away (bad pun) to hear our local news report that dozens of people called the gun store about purchasing an automatic weapon the day the ban ended... this is a relatively small & peaceful town... yikes... however the ban is still effective in this state as I understand it ... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Sep 2004 20:53:01 -0700 From: "Kate Bennett" Subject: This Just In NJC Congratulations alison !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Oct 2004 00:01:09 -0400 From: Lori Fye Subject: Re: Chaka Khan's son and the right to bear arms -- njc Smurf wrote: > I have always supported gun control, I've never owned a gun and most likely > never will, but I don't think I'd want to "lose" the right to bear arms > during the current administration. Thank you for making that excellent point, Bob. That is the sole reason, at this stage of my life, that I continue to keep the gun I "inherited" when my brother died. I've been reading "A Handmaid's Tale" again, and it's just not that far-fetched for me to imagine something similar happening if we get another 4 years of BushCo. Otherwise ... I've known this all along, but especially after seeing "Bowling for Columbine" it hit me hard: We are absolutely out of control in the U.S. when it comes to guns. The idiot House of Representatives is trying to overturn the gun control laws in the District of Columbia (which has its own government that apparently has no authority whatsoever) -- the only point of doing this, of course, is to appease the NRA and rural voters, none of whom have to deal with the volatility and violence in DC that will surely get worse as unemployment continues to rise. Thankfully the Senate will not entertain the measure. The assault weapons ban will not be renewed under the current administration. I have to ask again -- other than the possible need to defend oneself against Ashcroft, et al, WHY does anyone need that kind of hardware? There are lots of reasons to entertain moving out of the U.S., but Americans' insane love affair with guns is one of the biggest and most persuasive. But that's not the Jim McGreevey character we have come to know and love around here. Our Jim has become a beloved character that brightens our every day ;-) Kakki "I'm a pistol packin mama" --Gov. I'm sorry to hear about your dad and wish you strength through this time. I was thinking of you as our resident JMDL astronomer while reading a report about the asteroid Toutatis (sp?) that came within 600,000 miles of us yesterday. Just adds to all the stories about the volcanoes rumbling and the earth shaking. I hope you are on watch and will give us a heads up for any incoming! > Kakki when I get back to LA next year we are going to catch up and I want > you to take me to Guitar Centre in Hollywood, I want to buy a D41 to add to > the stable. Absolutely! That would be fun and the people I've met who work there all seem to have a few good Joni stories, too! It is definitely a musical candy store.
