Are there any Americans going to the Jonifest next week who would be willing to buy a few sets of guitar strings for me, which I can pay you for at the fest? Here in the UK guitar strings are about double the price of strings in the U.S., and I seem to get through them faster than anyone I know (corrosive perspiration, I think). On gigs I am now typically using three guitars (in different tunings - I blame a certain Canadian songstress that we all love), and keeping them all restrung has become a serious financial commitment! Could anyone willing to help me out email me off list? Thanks. Martin. For some reason I pulled it out again last week and have been listening to it ALOT. I mean, when I was a kid, I bought it for "Smoke On the Water" like most everyone else...but then, later in life, bound to my chair by whatever substances and forced (by my body's inertia) to listen, at some point I realized it was truly stellar. And yes "Lazy" is magnificent. The keyboard stuff blows my mind. I have kind of an oldish CD of it. And oddly enough it sounds really GREAT turned UP! Have even been taking it in the car w/me and I'm able to turn it up soooo loud and what sounds like mud and distortion at low volume is actually planned and pleasant. It "expands", blooms and comes to life at higher volume. Martin, do you listen to any Rainbow stuff? If so, do you care to recommend one album or the other particularly? Have looked on their website, and Blackmore seems to be going strong, and I'd like to pick a "later-newish" CD, but have no clue what to get. :) Hope you are having a pleasant rock and roll day. He was (and for all I know still is) an engineer/producer in great demand among rock acts. Once when I was at school, the music teacher asked us to bring in a favourite record to play in class so we could talk about it. The girls brought in Donny Osmond and David Cassidy (dulldulldull said the boys), and then I got a chance to play Lazy from Machine Head. The girls hated it with a vengance, but the music teacher was really impressed - as well she should have been ;) I saw Deep Purple on their Machine Head tour, which completely blew my 14 year old head away! A couple of years later I saw Rainbow on their first tour which was also brilliant. I've kind of lost touch with the rock scene over the years though - but I still go back to that album from time to time and still enjoy it. Can't recommend any Rainbow albums though - I only ever bought the first one, and haven't really paid attention since. Didn't realise that they were still going. Richie has an act called Blackmore's Knight which is largely influenced my medieval music, I'm told. I got into prog. rock after my metal days, then graduated to jazz rock, and very much later to less frenetic music like Joni. I was well into playing electric guitar in times past, but my love now is the acoustic. Really looking forward to the Jonifest for all the music that will be played, and of course getting up on stage with my band too !
