Nuke-ular energy is the main source of electricity in Ontario. I didn't know that until recently. Despite the presence of the Pickering and Darlington nuclear generating plants to the east of me, I still thought it was an anomaly. People here still refer to electricity as "hydro" for hydroelectricity, so most of us tend to think we still get most of our power from water. Toronto has ONE windmill down by the waterfront that supplies hydro, um, electricity to about 35 homes (or is it 350?) Some days the windmill isn't turning. And yet... it's a windy day! Hmmm. > Can we talk about something pleasant instead? > > Here's a start: I found a 50 minute DVD of YES in > concert circa 1979, > today. Guess where? Wal-Mart. $5.88 US. Life is > better now. Your turn. I saw a bunch of CDs that I kind of wanted for only $7.99 (Canadian eh?) at Sam the Record Man the other day. But I didn't buy them. Out of curiosity, Chris, I'm wondering if the message from a Verizon user was from me. Verizon's the new name of bellatlantic, and anyone who already had bellatlantic as their ISP was allowed to keep that address, but whenever I send anything via web-based email from a computer other than my home computer, the address shows up as from Verizon. I sent something recently from another computer, so I'm just wondering if that triggered something. Speaking in general terms, if you with all your computer protection got such an email, then isn't this a virus we ALL have? I've been getting messages for over a year (on my Mac!), sometimes very weird ones, like the one from (Birthday Man) Les with the message "that was bad" and an attachment to open. My first thought was, "really? My last post was THAT bad?" but then I thought "well, maybe my last post WAS bad, but Les probably wouldn't let me know in this way" so I resisted opening the attachment and deleted the message. That seems to be the only protection, no matter how enticing the message may be. It's especially jolting to get messages from people I haven't corresponded with in years. I don't keep an address file on the computer since viruses used to take advantage of that. Now it's as though the virus goes through folders such as "sent mail" and randomly pulls addresses out, sometimes very old addresses. Plus, another weird thing is that it used to be just a message. Now there are always files attached, and not just zip files but all different kinds. So, as you said Chris (I think), do not open any of the attachments and delete the entire message. Chris, since you're a computer wiz, do you have any suggestions about how to combat this virus? Debra Shea P.S. Catherine, I'd recommend a Mac to anyone anytime because I think they're great machines, but spam comes through on Macs, too. Tired of spam? Yahoo! Repulichristian religion... LOL!!! I personally am sick of the trend in American Christianity that tries to force perfection, a perfection which in action lacks love and seems man-made rather than God given. This is dangerous in my opinion. My religious background is not very American since both of my parents had ethnic parents who had immigrated from Lithuania and Poland and originally stuck to their ethnic communities once in this country. Their religion was deeply personal, not something they held up in everybody's face but rather was portrayed in their love instead. They were not superstitious and full of fear. I don't know... In talking about the sick religious atmosphere with an American Indian friend, she thinks it is a spin off on capitalism. And, she very well could be right. I don't pretend to have any answers. Capitalism is a catch 22 of a sort it seems. I can't come up with a better alternative myself but hope there are some geniuses who can. People want. They want more stuff and they want their ideas in everybody else's heads because they think their way is right and better. There's a loss of balance. It is obvious not only in American religion, in the way we treat each other, but also in the careless way we treat the earth. Joni Mitchell 1971 Hi Doug, I recently bought Joni's Beginning of Survival. There are several songs on it I had not heard before. They are so timely even though they were not written more recently. I suppose they are "ornery" in a sense. But, to listen to them, just like a lot of Joni's songs over the years, I feel uplifted because of the way they are sung and put together. I see this album as similar to looking at a beautiful painting of "bad" weather. There is something beyond the turmoil, something beautiful which Joni captures and relays. Her songs on this album are rather heavy but light all at the same time. In her honesty, she says what needs to be heard, and in her beauty, she conveys hope. I really love this album! Ya'll might have all of her albums, but I don't. And, this album points me in the direction of other albums I now know exist and will eventually get. I so enjoyed watching this. Joni looks so relaxed and if she is really enjoying herself. Someone recently opined that Joni is really a solo artist (I agree) and does not blend well with others (I disagree). I think this proves how well she can blend in, both vocally and visually, and yet have her contribution be distinct. And, I loved this James Taylor song long before I recognized that it was Joni singing back-up. Only One has been my favourite JT song for years, and (like Jerry) for most of that time I had no idea Joni was singing back-up! This clip is definitely one I'll be watching over and over again! Another thing I admire about Joni is how she stays such good friends with the men in her life. I read an article about Carly Simon recently (in a Reader's Digest of all things) and she said she and James have hardly seen each other since their break-up (with the exception of their daughter's wedding), let alone spoken to each other. And yet Joni's singing with James here, and he was obviously only too happy to be a part of the TNT Tribute. Ditto for Graham Nash and David Crosby, and Larry Klein.
