Although it's true that the Republicans have spent alot of money trying to instill that impression in voters. I don't buy it. (What does "namby-pamby" mean anyway?)** Well, Dictionary.com defines namby-pamby as: "Lacking vigor or decisiveness; spineless." And I suppose the spineless part is a tad harsh but the 'lacking vigor' part rings pretty true, from my POV anyway. But I could be totally wrong - you have to remember that the Democratic campaigns don't spend much resources in South Carolina, so I don't get to see much of his marketing strategy. I've been to his website and it was OK but again nothing really dynamic. And maybe the GOP has spent a lot to make him seem that way, even according to a lot of the left-leaning columnists I read, Kerry's doing a pretty good job of it all on his own. Don't get me wrong - the guy still gets my vote in November, he just doesn't enthrall me very much, that's all. I hope that Edwards can kick up the excite-o-meter a couple of notches. "I Had A King" describes Chuck's car as a 'salt-rusted carriage', and she pokes fun at the 'ladies in ginham' that blush when he sings of war and woe. Humor & sarcasm are two different things...I always thought her funniest line was the one from "Talk To Me": I didn't know I drank such a lot Till I pissed a tequila anaconda The full length of the parking lot! Then she does the whole chicken-squawking thing which is pretty funny too! As I was writing about M.G. I thought about how much this list means to me, even though almost all I ever do is lurk. I just returned from a vacation that allowed me to see places I would never have seen, thanks to the special relationships that have developed over the years of attending Jonifests, first at Ashara's home in Topsfield in 1998, and now at Full Moon. I know that for some, that a choice must be made between coming to Full Moon this August, or doing some other summer thing. I am one of the fortunate ones, as I get to have my cake (went on vacation in June) and eat it too (Full Moon for a long weekend). However, even if this turned out to be your summer's holiday, I encourage all of you who are open to the experience of hearing music - some of it sublime, some of it, well, heartfelt - having seemingly endless hours for conversation, making new friends, seeing people face-to-face with whom you have only communicated through email, laughing and crying, dancing and hiking, then sign up for Jonifest 2004. You won't regret it. You may end up with a collection of best friends that you cherish for the remainder of your days. I really liked what he had to say. However, both he and Kerry have been conservative as Senators, voted for the Iraq invasion and the Patriot Act, and violated the Constitutional provision that only Congress can declare war, without a whimper. It's about getting Bush out, but I wouldn't expect anything too revolutionary from the Dems. At least, maybe, they won't be so bent on conquering the rest of the world. Haven't there been many here and in the media who have gone on and on about it finally presenting the "facts" and that they "believe it?" Haven't we heard from Moore and his supporters what a blockbuster it is? What he postulates is just about everything that I've heard from many others the past few years regarding the "stolen election," "Halliburton," "all about oil," "Harken," "Saudis," etc. etc. etc. There are people who believe all of what he sets forth. Geez, I'm not so out of it that I haven't read and listened and observed the trend on a depressingly frequent basis the past few years. >Unless you have actually seen this film you have no idea what you are talking > about... you can't possibly know what is presented as true & what is > presente as opinion or how people might just possibly have the intelligence > to discern the two but are still blown away by the film because yes he is > brilliant at what he does... I can totally get the Cliff notes version of the film based on reading about 30 reviews and critiques of it from a wide variety (mostly politically left) writers (who it seems do not even wanted to be associated with his tactics). It has been pretty much debunked and because I do not have regard or admiration for those who manipulate in this fashion, I would not be blown away by his brilliance. The reports that he is getting financial support from the terrorist Hezbollah organization to distribute the film in the middle east kind of does it for me. I have no problem being "closed-minded" on that one and not wanting to support him. Why would you want to convince me otherwise? Would you go see a movie that you believed promulgated hatred toward a certain group of people (ah, like Republicans)? I don't need to see a porn movie to know in advance I don't want to see it. I can find some value in what he puts forth because he certainly has gotten people to talk about the issues and challenge the fictions. That is a good thing. > With that kind of education I would imagine that you can easily see how the > current administration has been a blatant master of propaganda for quite > some time now...
