I can hear Johnnie now: "The imitators of Ethel originated near Bethel . . ." << I have been doing that bit since the very late 80's - when I started it on a bar's booze cruise and had a boatful of people singing out all over Lake Michigan! >> I first did Ethel in 1988, when I lived in Hawaii. A couple of guys I worked with and I said we were going to start a group called the Mermen, but it never happened. It wasn't until my Jonifest collaboration with Susan and Kay that Ethel really blossomed. --Smurf, who also suffered whiplash when he heard Beth Nielsen Chapman had stolen our concept "The beat goes on and I'm so wrong The beat goes on and I'm so wrong The beat goes on and I'm so wrong I may be totally wrong But I'm a dancin' fool I'm a dancin' fool" - --Frank Zappa ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jun 2004 11:24:35 +0100 (BST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Jamie=20Zubairi?= Subject: Joni mondegreens I always wanted to know who "Bertha Rockenroll" was, she must've had quite an influence on Joni's youth ;) Much Joni Jamie Zoob ____________________________________________________________ Yahoo! How do I get in touch with Ashara? I've sent three email messages to what I thought was the correct email for Ashara, but haven't heard anything back. Would someone on here be able to help me out? Brian and all that are interested in the videos....... I did receive your e-mail and it is my absolute intention to take care of everyone that wants the videos. At the moment I am going through some challenges in my family, so please be patient and I will get to everyone that has e-mailed me, I promise. The cover reads "50th Anniversary Of Rock - 50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock & Roll". One of the 50 is titled "Harmony in Laurel Canyon; Crosby, Stills & Nash sing in Joni Mitchell's Living Room". It's a fairly short piece and if no one beats me to it I'll post it in the next couple of days, or provide a link. It's more about the boys than the girls anyway, after all it IS RS we're talking about, right? The article also features a nice pic of CSN & Joni riding in a limo and fiddling with magazines, cameras & such. I too am interested in any Joni videos as well. I have Woman of H @ M and Shadows @ Light. Was there a video for the Miles of Isles album ?? I'm also interested in the BBC Joni sings Joni program. Was she at the live at Big Sur show (I believe it was in '70) ?? Just curious. This only being my second post, I'm never on the puter. I'm a little afraid of the disease it'll be linked to when they find out in 10 years. ha ha ha. No. S&L was the first one > I'm also interested in the BBC Joni sings Joni program. I've been hoping they would show this, they have shown Neil Young sings Neil Young on Trio, and Cat Stevens on BBC from that era, but no Joni.... Joni's BBC show featuring James Taylor has been available on LP & CD for decades as a bootleg, and it is a classic that they should release officially ! Someone else would know if there is a video from this or another BBC broadcast. Probably. > Was she at the > live at Big Sur show (I believe it was in '70) ?? Just curious. Yes, she was. Was it '69? The movie from this event is "Celebration at Big Sur", and Joni performs a solo rendition of "Woodstock", and leads the CSNY boys through The Youngblood's "Get Together". She probably does another song, too, I can't remember. They show this movie occasionally on cable channels. It also features CSN&Y, John Sebastian, and others. If you need a copy, email me privately. > This > only being my second post, I'm never on the puter. I'm a little afraid > of the disease it'll be linked to when they find out in 10 years. ha ha > ha. It's nothing that was ever officially released commercially, and like Randy says that's too bad. But I do have a copy and have made many copies over the years. Here's what's on it: Part 1: "Joni Mitchell Sings Joni Mitchell" - the famed "Pink Dress Concert" from October 9, 1970, containing the following songs: 1. Chelsea Morning 2. Hunter 3. The Gallery 4. Cactus Tree 5. My Old Man (In Progress, missing a verse) 6. For Free 7. Woodstock 8. All I Want (With alternate lyrics) 9. California 10. Big Yellow Taxi 11. Both Sides Now Part 2: "The Old Grey Whistle Test", Joni Mitchell & The LA Express at The New Victoria Theatre, April 1974 (the closest thing I've seen to film from the "Miles of Aisles" tour) Intro by Bob Harris Cactus Tree Big Yellow Taxi A Case Of You Cold Blue Steel and Sweet Fire Trouble Child Help Me Car On A Hill Both Sides Now Raised On Robbery Part 3: "The Old Grey Whistle Test", interview and promotional stuff for Dog Eat Dog era. No live performances, but still pretty cool nevertheless. I'm happy to make copies for whoever would like one - my master is currently out on loan, so if you're interested in a copy, ask me in about a month. Or ask me now, but it'll probably be a month or so before I can do anything about it.
