The place is still there, with the donkey on top, on the corner of 9 Mile and Dequindre in Hazel Park, Michigan. I am sure there were one or two others as well. The burgers are a bit (but not much - unless you opt for their "belly buster") bigger than White Castles, and with the grilled onions, had a homestyle type quality to them. I used to live very near Bray's but now I'm staying on the eastside of Detroit, so had to find a new burger joint. Now I'm in walking distance from Geneva's whose burgers are almost exactly the same as Bray's. Ah yes, mystery meat....we of course called White Castles "sliders." S&H Green Stamps -- I pasted them into my grandma's books. Kresge's and Woolworth's were "Dime Stores" -- I also remember "Kresge, K-Mart, Jupiter" on the sales receipts because I later worked at K-Mart and they were all owned by S.S. Kresge. Does anyone remember McCrory's?? Soupy Sales, although I never really did like him much. My address had a two-digit "zone" before there were zip codes. North Canton 20, Ohio. A laundry chute and a milk chute and a coal chute. (god, how old AM I?) My grandpa used to shovel coal from the "coal room" (which was supplied by the coal chute) into the furnace.
