It was a collection of some of Australias best feamle singers with a very cool backing band singing their favourite Joni Mitchell songs. From the opening notes of Carey to the closing tones of For Free it was a very magical night. Singers were; Tania Bowra Rachel Gaudry Loiuse Perryman Robyn Dunn Sarah McGregor Karen Jacobsen Kristen Cornwell Songs included; Carey Blue Coyote Cherokee Louise Both Sides Now Woodstock Big Yellow Taxi The River Edith and the Kingpin For Free A Case of You Be Cool Chinese Cafe You Turn Me on I'm a Radio Amelia Solid Love Dry Cleaner from Des Moines Free Man in Paris Help Me Electricity Tiger Bones A very mixed collection of tunes each executed with a passion that only a fan would display. I was talking with Tania Bowra during a break and she was completely beside herself and having a total rage. I believe this show will be repeated or a similar show will be performed sometime inthe future. Thanks for reposting it, Paul. I thought there was a DOG in that story. I guess it just wasn't Siquomb's dog, but rather Rick's. At least I got the Pinto right! Hope everyone has a lovely Memorial Day. God Bless all the vets and esp. the WWII ones at the long overdue Memorial dedication. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 May 2004 17:21:03 -0700 From: "Kate Bennett" Subject: Boring Canadian political rant - njc - pc - yadda yadda >But here in Canada, we have more parties, more choice and more regional division than probably any other country in the world I can think of.< interesting Catherine... here in the usa we complain about being stuck with our 2 party system ... you have opened my eyes to the fact that more parties is not necessarily a positive... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 May 2004 21:52:06 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Boring Canadian political rant - njc - pc - yadda yadda --- Kate Bennett wrote: > >But here in Canada, we have more parties, more > choice > and more regional division than probably any other > country in the world I can think of.< > > interesting Catherine... here in the usa we complain > about being stuck with > our 2 party system ... you have opened my eyes to > the fact that more parties > is not necessarily a positive... I'm not sure if it's the number of parties, as opposed to regional differences - but then again, the parties do kind of reflect the regional differences, so same thing, I guess. I suppose there is some regional differences in the US. You hear about the Bible Belt, New England, the Midwest, all that in the US, so I suppose there are stereotypes of each and that there are tendencies of some regions to always favour one party over another. It may be more noticeable in Canada, because our provinces are like these big wide stripey things all across the country, with the possible exception of the Maritime provinces, which are a little more smooshed-in together (LOL.) And then there's Labrador which, by rights, should probably be part of Quebec, because it's attached to it, but in fact, belongs to Newfoundland, which makes no sense (maybe it's because they both have large water dogs named after them?) The prairie provinces tend to be either very right and righteous, or very left, I suppose. I think the NDP was born there - I don't even remember, but Tommy Douglas, the father of medicare and all that, was from Sask (or was it Manitoba? see how useless I am?) British Columbia is another one where they're either right-wing or left - you're either a hippy or a fundy. Quebec was traditionally Liberal until separatism became the thing, so first they had the Parti Quebecois which later became the Bloc Quebecois. They're not so hung up on separatism right now as they were ten years or so ago, but they are very pro-French, pro-Quebec (well, duh, I guess they should be), but they also strike me as a pretty decent party despite all that. Of course, they only exist in Quebec, for obvious reasons. Ontario can go either Liberal (used to be sort-of-like Democrats) or Conservative (sort of like Republicans). Both the Liberals & the Conservatives used to be fairly moderate, with the Liberals slightly left and the Conservatives slightly right. Now the Conservatives are divided among very right-wing, cut-taxes and no gay marriages, no abortion, blah-blah and those who remain just slightly right of moderate - which means the party is pretty fecked right now. And the Liberals are, I guess, the new Conservatives. The NDP have some good ideas, but a lot of wingnuts in the party. Northern Ontario can go either Liberal or NDP as a rule, rarely Conservative. Rural Ontario is more often Conservative, with Toronto being a bit of each, but more leaning to Liberals and NDP. Quebec is mostly Bloc these days, with some Liberals. There's sometimes a Conservative or two in the rich Anglo parts of Montreal. The Maritimes are kind of hard to predict, IMO. I don't have a clue about the northern territories of Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. They occupy huge amounts of space, but they only have about ten people living in them (joke, it's probably more like 100), so they kinda don't count. So, like so many other countries, we are just one big f*cked-up mess, especially these days, hence my frustration at the prospect of voting. I may spoil my ballot too by writing, "They all suck!" on it or something; however, am not sure if there's much point in that. Ultimately it may not make a bit of difference who wins - it'll just be more of the same. ===== Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We all live so close to that line, and so far from satisfaction ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 May 2004 02:11:54 -0400 From: ljirvin@jmdl.com Subject: Today's Library Links: May 29 On May 29 the following articles were published: 1983: "My Top Twelve" - BBC 1 Radio (Interview - Audio Transcription) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/view.cfm?id=619 1999: "Joni Mitchell Orchestrates Standards Set" - Billboard (News Item) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/view.cfm?id=788 2000: "Diana Ross Ticket Sales In A Rut" - New York Post (News Item) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/view.cfm?id=516 2000: "Mitchell charts new ground" - Boston Herald (Review - Concert) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/view.cfm?id=527 ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2004 #245 ***************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
