But to what end? The latter is motionless. The former, once one of the most movingly tense pieces in recorded history, here meanders. Like most everything else on the record, it ends up heartbreaking for all the wrong reasons." ...I simply cannot fathom the perspective from which they are listening. How can someone regard that rendition of BSN to be "motionless". I grant that the harmonic tensions provide a huge sense of lift and hovering as it were, but they paint a perfect sense of the sensation of somewhat sadly looking back at the clouds you are moving upward through as one might while shedding their mortal coil and describe the motion of clouds themselves. I found the remake intensely profound to the point that I wept. It was as though Mitchell was taking one last look before departing for regions unknown. In fact, it made me feel how it might be to someday I hear the news report that she had died. I wept at that thought and feeling. Motionless? I don't think so, pal. And I equally do not understand the reviewers use of the word "meandering" in respect to "A Case of You". Certainly Mitchell "plays" with the phrasing and so-on compared to the original...but that's life...things evolve...and besides, she has earned the right to "meander" if she so wants. Its as though the reviewer had some sort of road map about the tune which Mitchell should have followed or something. I am saddened, but not surprised, by the pretzel-logic that those opposed to equality and equal rights for all bring to this issue. The court ruled that marriage was a right for all, the opponents tried to say that civil unions were just as good - pardon me, but I'm old enough to remember the "separate but equal" arguments of the days of yore - and the court came back with their clear answer. Sadly, it was a 4/3 split, but happily, on the side of equal rights. This serves as a reminder that it is important to vote, since those who serve on the bench are appointed by those who hold office. As for who is next...all women are, just look at the legislation and court decisions around choice. Roberto, although I count myself in the Democrat camp, I see a lot of division in BOTH camps. Here in Massachusetts several former leaders of the Republican persuasion came out in favor of gay marriage, saying that the court was very clear on it. And the House Speaker - a Democrat - is "a staunch opponent of gay marriages" as the Boston Globe reported today. Makes me ill. Even if members couldn't set up a direct time for time exchange, we could maybe "put each other" up in exchange for the same when that person travels to another location. Cul, I know I too have trouble remembering dates back to the 50's, 60's and 70's and you are 3 years older than me, so please don't take offense, but..... Kelly Dale Anderson (Kilauren Gibb), Joni's daughter, was born in February of 1965 (she's an Aquarian like me). Joni Anderson did not meet Chuck Mitchell until after her daughter was in foster care in Toronto. They did not marry until later in 1965 (that was a mistake). Joni became pregnant in 1964 by her college boy friend (I wont mention names). Therefore, the only place you could have seen her perform in 1963 (but more likely in 1964) was possibly in Edmonton, Alberta at the "Depression". Look at the performance chronology dates on jonimitchell.com (see below). Now sometimes Wally (the creator of jonimitchell.com) didn't have everything down 100%, but he did a darn good job of getting as much reliable info as he possibly could. Let's just send Joni a copy of DVD #2 from the 2003 Jonifest, featuring Claudia San Soucie singing and Steve Polifka playing The Banquet, note for note the equal of Joni's performance on FTR. If she doesn't show up after that .................... Bobsart (Of course, in addition to performing it, Joni also wrote the lyrics, the melody and the piano arrangement, but surely the flattery of the imitation - and the unmistakable love attached thereto - would not be lost on her) PS - I'm not kidding. But, I am also a molecular biologist (masters = degree) and have substantial training and experience in biochemistry = techniques. I grandfathered into Northern Michigan University's biology masters = program before they required the GRE because I have a fairly good = undergrad GPA (3.74).
