So that's why that transition always seemed a bit foreign and new. I hadn't noticed that it fell at the end of side one on the LP. In contrast, I immediately noticed that on the CD of "Led Zeppelin IV" (Runes, ZOSO), "Stairway" doesn't end a side anymore. It's right in the middle. It was a satisfying closer, obviously. All the best, Jim L'Hommedieu Bob S. said, >I concur - but I had to ruefully recall that in the old days, when I first bought the record, The Same Situation was on the first side, which separated it from Car On A Hill and Down To You. Now that we have CD's, that problem goes away.> ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2004 00:37:04 -0500 From: "Lama, Jim L'Hommedieu" Subject: segues one song into another Harry's House/Centerpiece/Harry's House. Challenge yourself. Do things that make you feel proud. Get involved in outside commitments that force you to participate in the world even if it's the last thing you want to do. * Your mantra when you simply cannot get out of the hell that is your brain or you are thinking of suicide: AND THIS TOO SHALL PASS. Batten down the hatches and wait it out, doing the best that you can, and being very forgiving, understanding, and gentle with yourself. * Bicycling over long distances * Hammering away on my guitar * Exercise, in general * Get some sunlight * Cut out sugar. Avoid the "Sugar Blues" * If possible, get some fresh air Thanks to Chris Marshall for the idea. Thanks to the Joni Mitchell fans who survived into middle age for these skills. Since the Holidays started, we've nearly cycled through the whole list. As far as I know we didn't lose anyone during the Holidays, typically a dangerous time for survivors of depression. We'll never drop our guard and I thank everyone who tolerated this thread silently. It's a start and that's more than I did in 2002. I know the struggle continues but for right now, just once I'll say to his Spirit, "Thank you and well done. You have updated Jefferson's utopian vision of democracy. Things are better now than before you walked here. Amen." All the best, Jim L'Hommedieu npimh: yesterday's interview with Odetta & Billie Holiday's take on "Strange Fruit". It's incomprehensible that it was here in my country. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2004 01:38:19 -0500 From: "Lama, Jim L'Hommedieu" Subject: Some are friendly, some are cutting... From: "anon anon" asked, >Why would anyone be cutting at a party?> That's a very light way to ask a very heavy question. Sociologically speaking it's called "the Other". It's a bit like demonizing someone who's different. The sad part is that almost all cultures have it. Think of Belfast. Baghdad. The West Bank. Think of Detroit. And New Deli. And the Outback. It's pandemic. Are we are hard-wired for bigotry? Neil Young asked us to "Throw your weapons down. Throw your hatred down. Throw your hatred down. Throw your hatred down. Throw your hatred down. Throw your hatred down."
