I had JoniFest in New Orleans, the Detroit stop of the "BOTH SIDES NOW" tour, and moving into a new apartment, all within 9 days! I'll re-post something I wrote about the PazFest night in New Orleans, after the dust began to settle. Here's a post I found. All the best, Lama - ---------------- krug89 writes: 77 of 115 - ---------------- Date: Jul. 29, 2000 1:31 AM I first met Joni last summer in Toronto before she went to London England to record 'Both Sides Now'. I worked in a restaurant in Yorkville and she would stop in for a cranberry juice and a cappucino which she would order and drink at the same time, whilst smoking 'American Spirit's. She would eventually order a lobster salad which was the only real reason she came in at all. I am happy to say that I have the recipe for it which was handed down to me by the ex-chef Olivier Boels and that the last salad went to her before we pulled it off the menu. I never knew her before that day. Yes, I had heard the name and knew that she was a folk music artist but I never knew of her genius. I selected a lot of the music at the restaurant and enjoyed a lot of popular and hard core jazz and she once commented on it and that is how it all began. She spoke to me of her plans to make this latest album with the orchestra in London when she commented on the "lovely music" I played there. We spoke of the impressionism of musical redition by very many artist - Sinatra, Fatha Hines(St. James Infirmary) and Ellington - and days after days she came back to listen and one day admitted to me that perhaps her biggest handicap in this next recording was that she new nothing of Ellington's orchestral arrangements. So, upon her last day in Toronto to visit with her daughter, as she came down to the restaurant for her final lobster salad and the final lobster salad, I gave her my own copy of Ellington's 'Hot Summer Dance', recorded live with commentary from the master himself. Well to my dismay she leapt to her feet at the sight of the gift and layed a soft wet kiss upon my lips. I was in seventh heaven for week. Joni Mitchell has heart of gold not only in her music but also in real life and for the little dumb people like me who knew nothing of her and her prodige. She was a happy clandestine person at the restaurant. She knew I had no clue who she truely was and perhaps liked the fact since all we talked about for 2 weeks was exclusively different forms of jazz and nothing personal. I do not know if she has been in Toronto since but I have not seen her in more than a year. I hold on to 2 day's shifts a week there not needing the money any more in hopes to say thank you back. But I have a feeling it is going to a long wait. I cannot divulge the restaurant but be sure 'wannabeboarder' that your request will not escape my memory if I do see her again. You have my word upon it. - ---------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Dec 2003 15:12:16 +0000 From: "vincenzo mancini" Subject: Joni in DVD Dear all, you would have surely noted that mails asking for unofficial video copies appear on the list more and more often during these days. A VCD copy was also the subject of a permavine tree, yet, unfortunately -as many of us, I guess- I do not have a dvd recorder Did anybody convert into the DVD format the many unofficial video treasures available? Is there the possibility to get dvd copies? (The code region is irrelevant although I would prefer to get code 0 or 2 copies.)
