My daughter saw it the other day with her friend. She loved it. She's 16. There you go. I bought her the soundtrack from it for Christmas because she asked for it. It's nothing special, except for the fact that it has Joni's "mature" BSN on it. We're now listening to Mandy Moore's "Coverage" CD, another gift to Sarah from Santa. The whole thing is fairly uninspired, IMO. She does a fairly decent job on "I feel the earth move" and she needen't have bothered doing "Senses working overtime", which sounds plain bizarre sung by this pop chick singer. I'm waiting for the JC on this one - she covers "Help me". It hasn't come up yet. I'm not expecting anything special, but it's Joni. (The kid asked for this one too - it's not just Mama trying to subvert my kids' minds.) ===== Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We all live so close to that line, and so far from satisfaction ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Dec 2003 09:47:40 -0500 (EST) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Boxing Day and "Help me", Mandy Moore version - sjc Where in the world apart from Canada and the UK is Boxing Day a stat holiday? Just curious. Maybe it's not called Boxing Day, so where else in the world is Dec. 26 a stat holiday? NP - Mandy Moore's cover of "Help me" from her "Coverage" album. My opinion? Not bad, but not terribly inspired. Stays fairly close to the original in its arrangement. Moore has a decent voice, but nothing particularly special, IMO. Maybe she needs to mature a little? Needs to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous romance, or something. Her singing is too pop-py for this woman's taste. Do they actually teach people to sing like that? with the overdone and not-from-the-heart melissma (sp?) that's supposed to pass for emotion of some kind. ===== Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We all live so close to that line, and so far from satisfaction ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Dec 2003 16:45:25 +0100 From: Emiliano Subject: Re: Boxing Day NJC Hi, Catherine! Just kidding, dear: in Spain today isn't at all a stat holiday (maybe in Catalunya, I don't know for sure) BTW: the Magi's day, 6th january: where is a stat holiday? I was very surprised when, some years ago, we happened to be in Portugal in that day (returning from Morocco), and it wasn't holiday! Since that is mostly the way I got them in the first place. I prefer to start some perma-vine trees that will manage themselves further on. I don't know if there are any "official" rules for these perma-vines. Please let me know. Ofcourse I am as much interested in enlarging my own Joni Mitchell collection and I hope to reach some people who willing to trade or vine recorings. Thank you for the Sparks imfo......I used to have a lot of their music....they actually made a video in our local park (Bramhall Park, Manchester) and our school went to see them do this...1975? I went to see them in concert with a girl called Sarah and OUR song was 'Up here in heaven with out you'....I also had another OUR song with a girl called Ailsa...'Suicide is painless' from the MASH film..while my wife's and I ...OUR song is....something about a little bit of sunshine has come into our lives in a form of a baby etc etc (an Australian song......ooops forgot it's title????..too much vino...we do tend to keep Xmas going a bit here)... My computer is playing up...On Xmas day I was going to see what emails I had..when suddenly wife says.....well words to the extent that..if I put the computer on......well Xmas for me would be spent in the dog house (we don't have a dog anymore? and......I spend more time on the computer than with her???...as if!!!) any way I noticed that the computer was taking a long time to load up.....there was the screen saver only....no icons and the cursor..telling me it is in waiting or loading mode (a screen saver was of Joni ...that lasted 1/2 a day...its now a moon over a snow capped mountains)...well it seems my son had down loaded a music programme called Kaz**a.....and with it I think came Python and P2P......so to get to the email I have to hold down the Ctrl, windows and Alt buttons and delete to get in to windows task manager......so I have tried everything and ...now I may have to reformat!! I am sorry to report that ..........its bloody brilliant!! I am 46 and have waited 31 years for this film and its been well worth it..I can even forgive the cartoon attempt (okay they missed off bits from this film.....Tom Bombadil and the battle/clearing of the Shire etc)..but it on the big screen is......well how as a child, I would go to the flicks in Stockport......hiss and cheer at the screen...and get this!!...there is so much humour in this film........I can see undertones of the Christian Right Wing, Pro Gays, being nice to everyone, trusting each other, listening, understanding and accepting of other peoples point of view and beliefs, races getting along and even marrying into each others race, equality of the sexes, fighting ignorance and evil, not being corrupted by material gain....oh shut!....as if...its just a well made film..Peter Jackson is soooooooooooo clever and to keep all the threads together.....WOW!!!......you are allowed to wonder at the architecture, costumes, landscapes...with out it being a history lesson.......but I loved it all. I went with my 15 year old lad and 16 year old girl and queued up with their friends..about 10 of them..I was the oldest and probably was in the cinema.....had the other age groups gone to the 2 screenings before? we waited an hour to get in...there was a sense of excitement and anticipation.....I could image all the younger folk, an hour before had got off their game computers and headed this way, everyone was well dressed, chatty and laffing We went to the 9.00pm Boxing Day sitting. as the film started..there was no clue as to the other LOrd of the Rings films that had gone before, I like that as Peter Jackson is saying...well WE know why WE are here and You are intelligent folk..I am sure Homer was like this? I for that 3 hours plus, was a child and Peter Jackson had got into my head and made me My film.....the funny part at the beginning was.....on the beeeeeg screen, Liv Tyler, the actress.......the camera lingered on her face..then panned down to her cleavage to see the necklace and at this stage you are presented with just her breasts (clothed) on the screen...when I heard...."Cooooooooorrr...they're nice!"..I looked around to see who had made this rude statement...it was me!!! and as the film progressed (I think there were 100 people in the room) you heard oohs and aahs, your emotions were thrown around and to me that is great cinema, a lot of the actors I did not really like..mostly the hobbits...but that is what the object was....that they are annoying childish...and as a father I should have seen that!...but a lot of the actors are now in my mind Great actors......so I now see how Peter Jackson has used our subconscious!!...its clever as you are not aware that you let yourself go or are taken on this adventure...but as I predicted...at the end of the film.......you will think.....mmm I had better watch it again!!! ...the other 2 films!...and at the end.....okay I was teary......I flicked the head of my sons mates ear near me as he was blubbing (he was letting us males down) and yes there is a LOT of bloomin male bonding, hugging and holding and kissing...where is George Bush when you need him?...I jest! but it should appeal to everyone....so go and see my...sorry Peter Jackson's masterpiece and the computer stuff..does not make it any less...as Star Wars did recently and get this.....there is so much Star Wars stole off Tolkein!!!! and now we (we being the Royal me!) await TROY!!!!...this looks great..well the trailer bits did..I have waited 30 odd years for this also (and the Alexander the Great films.....will they have gay overtones in these?..it will be fun to see...how they get this thru USA censors...its okay for British Male actors to kiss each other as it seems a lot of them were Batty boys (Ali G term)..Olivier, Guinness, Richardson, Burton?, Redgrave, Geilgud, Hawthorne, etc etc Back to Alexander the Great..yes I know there are the campy foreign versions and the TV mini series..but which film will be a good story? better go as I feel I either have to reformat this computer or go mad.. My News year thingy..is to be more tolerant of mankind (as if!!), lose some weight, try to read more, be more selective in my comments and mmmmm to share the TV remote and NOT to take it to the toilet when I leave the room!! Cheers Ash and think of those less fotunate in our society..the ones who have not seen Lord of the Rings!! Yes I know there are starving people.....but do my cats care? film wishes....
