I joined on Chrstmas Eve last year and here we are again. Thank you, all of you, for becoming my international family of friends. I loved Fest and plans are underway to attend again 2004.... Just have to get that fund underway as the kids want to come too, as does Frank. INfact, FEST WAS the high point of my year and fleshing out the virtual voices into flesh and blood was an incredible experience. All those who doubt that it is worth the effort, put your cynicism to the side, book a place and get you there to Full Moon, you will not regret one minute of it. It is about Joni, but it is also about being happy, being with people who love to sing, who love to talk (OH YES THEY LOVE TO TALK), and drink and have such a good good time.... SO, happy New Year and the season that leads to it, whatever religion, colour or sex you are. You have made this last year one of the best ever. Queen Lulu is signing off from a damp UK.. and is about to attempt the drive of 130 miles that should take two and a half hours but its more likely to take 6!!! IN whatever language you speak I wish you health, happiness, kindness, warmth and love. He was 70 years old; arranger, writer, orchestra conductor and piano player; he is, most of all, known as the musical director of great Jacques Brel's music (along with piano player Gerard Jouannest & accordion pl. Jean Corti): together (from 1956 to JB's death in 1978) they wrote many of the most important pages in popular music of the last century: it seems he was who convinced Brel to put away the guitar in stage (with the astoundish results one can see watching this scene animal in the videos from that age: I recently got a DVD from Knoke-le-Zoutte and it's............), along with the arrangements he made for the inspired songs Jacques wrote. Bastards. How long does it take to grow a tree? Why the feck don't they plant new ones when they cut the old ones down? Why does nobody think beyond a period of 2-5 years? Oh yeah, politics. That thing. How long is a political office... And oh yeah, if I plant a tree now, I suppose I'll be dead by the time it gets big enough for anyone to care about, so why should I? Trees are such an obvious renewable resource, but I guess they just take too long to grow. I wonder what they're planning to build with them? Affordable housing? Naah. (emphasis-asterisks mine) I spent five years in Oregon (Coos Bay/North Bend and Klamath Falls) and still have friends working in the timber industry there. ALL of the major timber companies have active reforestation projects...clear-cutting and leaving devastation behind is a thing of the past. Reforestation isn't done solely out of the goodness of these folks greedy little corporate hearts, it's a matter of enlightened self-interest. It doesn't take too much imagination to realize that forests, like all natural resources, are finite. Conservation and reforestation ensures preservation of the business and the livelihoods of those in the timber industry, including my Oregon friends. Merry Christmas!! Oh darn, oh shucks, Oh my aching stomach!) Get a large bowl. On the bottom of said large bowl, throw in some kind of cake (it can be stale, in fact many recipes insist that it be stale) - it could be pound cake, or angel food cake, or whatever; or you could use ladyfingers, or some plain soft biscuity thing. Break up the cake into crumbly bits. Pour some kind of liquor over the top of the cake. I used Grand Marnier, but in previous years have used other types of liqueur. you could use rum. You could use something non-alcoholic as well, like orange juice. Pour enough over it to soak the cake but not to make a liquid layer on the bottom. Over that, put some fruit - I used raspberries, but have also used cut-up bananas, or fruit cocktail, or even clementines or oranges (remove seeds!), or kiwi fruit, whatever you've got, or any mixture thereof. Pour some more liqueur over that. On top of that, pour a can of Devon cream, or vanilla pudding, or custard, or anything similar to that. In fact, I've never tried this, but I bet ice cream would work too. Over that, put a layer of whipped cream. Fresh cream that you whip yourself (with a little sugar, but not too much, added) is best; but, if you don't have that, you can use Dream Whip or that stuff that comes in a spray can. On the very top, sprinkle some cocoa, or cinnamon; or throw some chocolate bits - it can be chocolate chips, or grated chocolate (any kind), or even a grated or broken up chocolate bar - whatever you've got! You can also add some toasted almonds or cashews or some other kind of nuts (you can melt some butter or margarine in a bowl in the microwave, then throw the nuts into the bowl and nuke for another minute or two until the nuts get all toasty). Throw those on top of all the other stuff. Sprinkle on some coloured Christmas cookie decorations if you want. Put it in the fridge for a couple of hours. Eat! ===== Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We all live so close to that line, and so far from satisfaction ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Dec 2003 23:24:56 -0500 From: "Lama, Jim L'Hommedieu" Subject: RE: King of Pain Checks In, NJC Since it's 11PM on the east coast of the US, Christmas has already arrived for JMDLers in the Ukraine, in Vienna, and in Greenwich.
