Don't know if Sparks are still at it. I'll probably do a Google search later to see what I can find out. I'd never heard of the Mael Bros. until an ex (who wasn't an ex at the time) gave me a 2-CD Best of Sparks set maybe ten years ago. I listened to it a lot then but haven't played Sparks in a couple years. Reading your subject line made me realize that I want to dig out the CDs and play them again. I found that Sparks music was ideal to play for cleaning the apartment: it's so funny and high-energy, and it just keeps me working. And I'd even been planning to clean this place tomorrow, so this is just ideal. NO WATER!! There had been a problem with the water mains and the whole (one-horse) town was without water. I needed it to reduce my body heat but she needed it because she was taking medication and the bar had no bottled water nor tap water. We ordered (on barman's suggestion) a Dr Pepper to help the pill go down. It was the worst tasting drink I've ever tasted (and I have tasted a few). To top it all when she wanted to go to the 'rest room' the barman said she couldn't because (you guessed it) there was no water. We had to drive out of town to take a dump. What a disaster of a town. Christmas is for Get Together: another year is ending, we're "moved", even overawed, but also hopeful : that's the source of religion. So we celebrate, surrounding ourselves with our dear ones. I always live near the town were I was born, so it's a great chance to see old friends who live away and come to spend Noche Buena (Good Night: Christmas' Eve) y Navidad with their families. So around the 28th, Innocents's Day (the day for jokes: something like 1th April's Fool, don't?), the local pubs are full of good surprises from the past. The Huge Fest, the crazy one... New Year's eve... we swallow 12 grapes at the sound of the bells, then we kiss everybody at reach ! Lately yooung people are dressing very elegantly & formal (night dresses too, for a cold winter night) for the night). The latter should be... well... hazy by the time we're done. I'm sure Lucy will post details if she remembers more than I'm intending to. Have a fab time, and take it easy with the brandy sauce, huh? Most of the time there are only two people working the window, and you can no longer get oversized mail that won't fit in the box after 4 PM. Street people are sleeping in the lobby. NJC Well I'm sure you want to know who's coming to OUR house for Christmas dinner?? (this by an Ex Englishman in Tasmania..age 46) AGAIN this is all written in a tongue in cheek way..I am a very nice person really and am in contact with my feminie side...yeah but don't tell the wife? For years I have managed to wangle it, that we as a family be at others for Xmas and eat and drink their stuff and destroy their property and frighten the neighbours!!...okay a cheap bludger.....well it has come to pass..its our turn!......bah humbug! Anna the wife, ('wife' is not a PC term...but that is a description of her.....to say why she is in the house..I could have written Anna the head honcho...but that does not describe, how wondrous she is) Anna...who was 'desperate' when she married me (she made me put that in)......she has now just raised her eyes skyward and gone out of the room..muttering ...."that bloody Joni Woman!!"..well she did have the vacuum cleaner in hand.....does not mind having people to share our table.....its warm (bloddy hot) at this time of the year in Oz.....but Anna said no to a BBQ...where we guys hang around the BBQ and burn our meat and the women admire our skills (as if).. so there will still be meat and fish dishes being offered for tomorrow. oooh poo..maybes some are vegetarians.....well they can just get drunk! so much for my social skills? We live on the Tasmania North West coast in a 2 storey rather tatty wooden but much loved house, on a hill over looking the sea..the sun is shining and the little waves are .....well you get the idea..tomorrow it will piss down with rain and we will think.....well..what ever?..but we do have all our Christmas decorations up and they have decorated the big harbour crane as an emu that lights up at night. On the stereo is some of the kids downloaded music...delete that bit!......oh we never go near those sites with free music....as if! So guest list.......for tomorrow well there is me.. mien host and after one wine..I get very merry and teary if I see that bloody Wonderful Life film again..I was suggesting taking out a semi circle of the table to get my tummy in?....and Anna..that person who does not know it!.... is going to let me get Joni stuff next year?? I have this vision of me in the divorce court (do wibbly wobbly effects..cut to American TV court house...) My wife and our 3 kids in tatty clothes..looking downtrodden (think Dickens Christmas carol) on one side of the courtroom, the Judge, camera crews..me ( looking slimmer and in decent threads dressed by those 5 gay men) in the dock or the stand........a happy looking Joni Mitchell... a video link up? ...okay a huge life-size poster of her, in front of the Judge (Judge Amy?...no Diane Cannon..mmmm) and the words from the awful lawyer (Kramer out of Seinfeld)........"You bought what out of the family budget to feed this abnormal obsession you call a 'hobby concerning the multi talented Ms Mitchell?" and the Judge says (light me. Mr De Milles!) "Obsession is a harsh term Mr Scum lawyer!..I would call it a pleasurable hobby, in which a man of great taste..Ash (see me later in my chambers and bring the handcuffs!) in people, music and dress sense, the defendant here, who has a hard life, is now reaping the rewards and indulging in something that harms no one..okay his family goes without, okay he spends hours on a computer, okay he is so handsome..."....CUT! back to my story of who will be here..... our 3 sprogs/Children at a separate table..or maybe down stairs?????? oh and the in-laws and the in-laws (now she the mother in law is the real head honcho of our family..while father in-law..like me a downtrodden partner...its a role we play so well..it has so many advantages! he will bring his cheap box wines, well 1st he will show off the decent wine bottles..we drink them..he takes the bottles away and fills the bottles in the kitchen with the cheap box stuff..no body ever notices!!....or cares by this time!) our cats will lurk....like some mediaeval feast attend and have what falls from the table...oh they will have their Xmas meal beforehand of course...yeah I know about the starving in the world...but hey do cats care? I find it funny that you read these stories where people have died and have not been found for days and their pets have eaten them!!..so much for loyalty!! and now our guests: I suppose Ms Mitchell will be busy?...again! Well the blind lady has invited herself (she loves to dominate!)......and her (mmmm gay) hubby...he says he's not (but has a 'friend's who he stays with)..but he is very flamboyant and will supply most of the drinks. The 'Boys'.....now they are a middle aged gay couple...who my wife opened their large garden to the public this year.....Jeff and Mike...which is which?.....Jeff left Mike for someone he met on the internet and has now been taken back....so this will be like Sex in the city?? Next door neighbours.... very elderly Christian couple (early 60's).....he is Ian and she is Lenin, Leanne or leanor?..she is a Christian teacher and he is an ex prison warden..they pray in the backgarden everyday and my wife thinks she is unclean as they put all their washing out on a Monday and take it in on Friday! the other next door neighbour....Catherine...she is a pretty young theatre nurse...who hates men and thinks I am a fool! If she hates men is she a ?..see I AM a SEXIST PIG!! But she does not have dinner parties..she has do's! our ex next-door neighbours.. 2 wizzy University lecturers Danny and Lucy, who just got married and did the Central and South America Trek..I like her...him....well? Dee and David....(late 40's).more of Anna's friends, Dee has the biggest bust and bottom and a shaved head, David (not Dave) is a tattooed person.. and they are not PC!!. later on I will ask HIM about tattoos, earrings and spotted scarves..he's bound to know...he's ENGLISH!! Dee last month held an underwear party....and she was the model...Anna told me while I was eating! Anna has told me as I read this out..that David is on Viagra or was it vallium?? Ian and Pauline, (late 50's) they run the local cattery.....Pauline, thinks every man wants an affair with her and she should be on medication...while Ian actually is....No not having affair with everyman!......has on pills..he was going to 'volunteer' for the mental hospital....Pauline said while he went in for his 'visit'..she was going to repaint their 120 year old house inside in lime and orange.....she said Ian would not notice as he would be too out of it, on his medication! Pauline has this tattooed on her left shoulder, that after a few drinks she likes to show!...the tattoo is quite good (a butterfly) but the shoulder...mmm not really! Shirley and Tony......(early 50's) well Shirley is a beeeeeg woman with a heart of gold.....who only had one child..so the whole world is her family...and never get a Shirley hug..as you never get out!! She fills our sofa..and on a trip to the USA..had 2 aircraft seats for her and a wheel chair to take her off with..she felt at home in Hollywood as there are folk bigger than her..she is a lovely person tho..but sees God in the Larder/pantry/small room where you keep your chocolate biscuits and drinking sherry. But a party is no party with out Shirl and her rude..extremely rude jokes (I have to quickly delete her email jokes! on this computer)..she is not PC..they have an indoor pool..in which we have seen Shirl mmmm naked....talk of free Willy..its free every thing...while her hubby Tony..stick insect..he's the straightman in this duo..get a few drinks in him and he gets out his organ (the musical one)..Shirl thinks grabbing hold of yer bum is fun..I want to see her grab one of the Boys! oh and NEVER...I need to repeat this ....NEVER get caught under mistletoe with Shirley or dark corners....especially when she has had our wine/vodka/rum/port/beer punch...be it either sex...Shirley will also show you her scars or her war wounds!! and that it is...we are seeing other folks at New Year. I just thought, non of us would be on Bold and the Beautiful !!!! Then our son (15) said his friend Lucy (he has a harem of girls from school..but no girl friend) she was 'dumped' last night on the internet by her boyfriend..so Chris has invited her....Lucy is like our son.....hyperactive!!. Then Sam (she 16) said if Chris is inviting Lucy.....then her new boyfriend is coming here ....Brady or Bradley.....mmmm we have not met him.....!! he is VERY Christian....The Bush type..Right Wing lot.....so maybe he will not like our guests..ahhh well?. So as you can see it will be fun...oh yes certain others will call......its sort of open house, mainly Chris's (15) mates from school and work..... one is Wiggy..he is a funny Indian boy, his mum makes these great curries..again another Christian...here in Tasmania..we have Christians....your born again, Assembly of God, Latter day saints, Church of God, Church of Jesus, Catholics, Protestants, 7 Day Adventists, Mormons or is it Quakers?, Chapel, Presbretarians, Anglican, Baptists, Christian Revival Crusade, Christian Reform, Christian Outreach, City Life, Uniting church, Southland ministries, Salvation Army, Life line, New Life Christian, Apostolic Church (Aust) , Royal See of the continent of Australia, Luthereian..then the Buddhist, Jewish, Moslem, Temple of.......etc etc etc........so maybe we will all be saved??? Then there is Jake..he's okay in small doses.....he is a Nazi but he loves old British comedy..he about to join the army Ben..Dutch and he has a metal plate in his head......I said what happens if you pat his head?...stupidly I patted his head and was punched in the stomach...its an automatic reflex! Nick another Dutch Lad..but in to fast motor bikes or dirt bikes or go carts Georgia...well she now moving to Mt Isa.....fun but ooo sooo spooky Terry?.....Chris's Japanese mate..his family run a Chinese restaurant! Boomer (Kelvin) a Greek lad....thinks he is Gods gift to women...mmm he is so ugly in ..only a mother can love him way......but I think our Sarah (12) has a crush on him!!...he also to join the army! etc So we start to get ready.. I sit here tapping away at the computer.....Anna prepares everything...well she did say I was hopeless.....and only she could do it!..maybe she did not mean it that way? I will get the rooms ready and put on the background music.....on the hi fi is sticky taped.....in big felt pen letters is...... "No Joni...or No Presents!" ...so is it worth it..to play Joni? On the Xmas tree (the 1 ft plastic one)..I can see Lord of the Rings movie tickets...well I hope one is for me? On the radio..this (Wally?) said its the best film ever and sets new standards! Xmas cards?..I sent out loads and as always, say this is the last time I send to them as they never reply...but what is good is the email ones..so cheap and easy (I better not say what the Shirley one was of...well it was to do with a bottom and Santa posting his letters......we never think of him sending his Xmas cards out!) So what does my cousin Clive do?..he has never replied in 5 years.....well he sends me an Xmas card (he was the bigshot in Hong Kong and then went out with a Yank and failed his New York Law exam..so she dumped him.....he ended up back in the UK) and married a woman with 5 boys ..inside are the words From him, his wife, boys and girl......girl..what child is this?. I married into a family (not the immediate one) that does not talk/write or email and when they do...say after 2 year break, you are supposed to know what the freak they are on about..er Esp....but my family (the one I was born into) are the same...not good at communications..but the funniest was an aunt I had sent cards and letters to in the UK....This week I got a 'note' to say she had been dead for 2 years!!!! Life!! Think of me for the 1st hour of our party, me being oh so politically correct...and what with the food, Celtic background music (okay Enya, Bjork, Corrs, Braveheart andTitanic film themes, Riverdance...leading to Rory Gallagher, U2.....Thin Lizzy, Van Morrison..then Joni...maybe I can risk it????)..the drink..trying not to be alone with Shirley! and lastly.....why does drink make you see people as more attractive? and the idea of ringing up people on the phone across the world more amusing and saying stuff you should not??? Again I hope you all have a good time...I also have been alone at Xmas.......a bloody freezing Xmasday London, in a pee stained phone box pumping money in to talk to mates in Manchester at a party..they having a good time......money runs out (aaaaah!) and me trudging back to a cold Ilford (London) bedsit, with only the battery radio as a friend and next-door (very thin walls) making love as tho it was their last time! and beans on toast or was it tinned Irish stew?..for a meal! (please do not think Monty Python and the Yorkshireman sketch..they would not believe you!)...but the very next day I was at a party, very drunk and being molested by a large girl called Stephanie (she was born on an American Air force base...what as a bomber???..that was her joke) see people do become attractive when you have all that grape juice!!...so there is always light at the tunnel and as my soul mate says..Scarlet (Katie) O'Hara......"fiddle dee dee"...no!...."Tomorrow is another day"..but she also said.."but Asherleeeee (that's me) I lurve yooooooo!!"..pity the actress went potty.....she was a Scorpio too! In the Linda Lovelace..no Linda Goodman star chart books,......Scorpio's need Love and give love..they are the most sexiest in the Zodiac.....also they are ruled by their genitals...well the last part for me is...stomach!! Take Care Ash Oh further topics in the New Year Why is the toilet paper always on the last sheets when I go in there? Will I be more handsome as I get older or does the mirror need cleaning? Why have I become selectively deaf when my boss or wife is talking to me? When I see scavenger birds on a dead animal, why do I think of my money grasping sister in law in Costa Rica? And who are these people who are my family?..I remember being age 12 and wanting to go to the moon and now have to take more trips to the loo! and will ever Ms Mitchell talk on site? as akin to Garbo speaks! ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2003 #635 ***************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
