Hi Emiliano, Bill Clinton, his very good looking self, is all about show. I have just loved to watch him on TV over the years. He has been even more intriguing to watch in real life here in Arkansas. When his eyes met mine for the first time... I melted. He attracts people like a moth to a flame! When I heard through the grape vine here in Arkansas that he was going to run for president... I knew he would win. I was disappointed that he didn't host the talk show that was in the makings at one time. I would have definitely watched that! Hey, Vince - that reminds me. A few weeks ago a friend of mine and I signed up for a songwriting seminar. My friend is really into song-writing and I went along for a lark, but it was a lot of fun anyway. It was mostly just about writing lyrics, but the instructor did use Eminem's "Cleaning out my closet" as a powerful example of well-written lyric, and drew our attention to a segment of the song that used a lot of short /i/ sounds to demonstrate the fact that a lot of work goes into writing that stuff and getting the lyrics to work for the song, as well as that, in English, because we have sooooo many vowel sounds compared to so many other languages, that making "pure" rhymes is often very difficult, but you can make sounds work for you in different ways: "Now I would never diss my own momma just to get recognition Take a second to listen for who you think this record is dissin But put yourself in my position; just try to envision witnessin your momma poppin prescription pills in the kitchen Bitchin that someone's always goin throuh her purse and shit's missin" Look at all those short /i/ and the /s/ sounds and you can hear the anger even if you don't understand the words - it's like someone talking through clenched teeth. What Em writes ain't pretty, but it's damn good stuff. ===== Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We all live so close to that line, and so far from satisfaction ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 05 Dec 2003 22:28:50 -0500 From: vince Subject: Re: eminem raps about dead president -- NJC > --- "Lavieri, Vince \ > >>Oh well, always money to be made by attacking Eminem >>- >>nominated for 5 grammys this most recent time around >>and >>how good it was to me to see all the rap and hip hop >>tunes >>get recognition at long last. >> >> Catherine McKay wrote: >Hey, Vince - that reminds me. He brings immense skills and much hard word and rewriting to his writing and I thank you for sharing your experience and in fact educating me on how that skill is shown thanks so much for sharing this Catherine, means a lot to me Vince ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Dec 2003 22:41:13 -0500 (EST) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Mary Grace --- tantra-apso wrote: > I have not tagged this message. It means a lot. I have never met Mary Grace and have never spoken to her in person. I know she hasn't posted lately, but she is one person whose posts I remember and value greatly. I remember her talking about her house and her kids and her upcoming marriage. I remember most of all her discussing how she deals with people at work as if they were "beloved" and sharing that with the rest of us, the message being, if you can see every other person as someone who is "beloved", then you will speak to them with love and respect and treat them with love and respect. I hope I've expressed that properly. A very simple concept, really, but one most of us don't think of when we react with short tempers to something another person says or does. I admire her courage and her humour and her strength. Miracles sometimes happen, but MG is, herself, a miracle. ===== Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We all live so close to that line, and so far from satisfaction ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Dec 2003 20:21:18 -0800 From: "Kate Bennett" Subject: River of love njc I just watched this video given to me by a friend who's daughter travels around with the woman who this story is about...its a truly remarkable story & the fact that it is happening right now in our life time gives me great hope & inspiration... i don't know if it's a video you can rent or one that you must purchase through the website...anyway, it is a documentary drama on the life of ammachi...a simply done but very moving story for anyone who needs a shot of what one person (in this case a woman) can do in this world to spread pure love & acts of charity...it appears to be a huge movement & something so very pure & good for these cynical times... my friends just got back from a weekend spent with almost 7,000 people in a celebration that lasted from Saturday, through the night, until noon on Sunday...this is something I know I must experience when she comes to this part of the world next...she travels all over the world & from just watching the video I can tell there is so much amazing love being generated... http://www.ammachi.org/ is the website ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 06 Dec 2003 00:35:39 -0600 From: Rob & Tracy Subject: Socialism. Now fascism njc very long! Lori wrote: I agree, Bob. On the other hand, Americans don't need to be so obnoxious about displaying our flag constantly and everywhere. Why not do as most other countries do, and display it on special occasions only? I love you, Lori! This is the first post I have read on the subject, so I might have missed the larger thread in previous digests. You know, I don't want to upset the flagsters on the list, but to be honest, and remember, this is just my little old Canadian opinion here, the bombardment of flags everywhere in the states just completely freaks me out. I understand patriotism, but to see the flag everywhere just makes it seem that "America the beautiful" is bound up in EVERYTHING, and God forbid you criticize anything of the government or the country. It just really unnerves me when I am in the states to see the flag everywhere. I love my country, and I thank God I am a Canadian and live in this country, but I don't need daily constant reminders that I am a proud Canadian by having a flag in my yard, or at my office, or whatever. I mean, I think we abolished singing the national anthem in my grade school every morning before we abolished morning prayers. I do not need to tie my nationality into everything I do, or be constantly reminded of it by the symbol of the flag. This summer, I had a hideous experience crossing the border into the states for what was supposed to be just a fun day of shopping. I was in Regina for business for a week, and, being done my meetings at noon one day, decided to head south for the day to shop and just have a change of scenery. So, i drive 2 hours to the border, and tell them that I am going to Minot to shop, and of course they don't believe me - "You are going to drive 4 hours to shop, and then come back at night?" I tell them yes, I am away from home, bored, there's no Old Navy in Saskatchewan, ha ha, etc., and they get downright rude, haul me in, run me through the computers, pictures of George W. are staring at me, they are debating if they should start a file on me, and I am thinking "I will never step on this godforsaken soil again". To make matters worse, I think "they are about to stipsearch me" and remember that I have narcotics in my pocket for my root canal and pulled wisdom tooth earlier in the week - and they are in a bottle that is not in my name. So, they let me go after being so ignorant and intimidating and I think "just turn around" but I didn't want to give them the satisfaction, so I proceed on with my journey, but the rest of the way to Minot, every farmhouse, every gas station, most of the cars, all have flags or decals of flags. After my experience, I was freaking out at this patriotism, and then I am stuck at this road construction, still freaking out, wanting to just get back to Canada (I was able to still pick up CBC Saskatchewan on the radio and kept thinking "soon, I'll be back to sanity"). So, at the construction wait, there is this big Suburban in front of me, and this snot-nosed kid keeps staring at me, and I've got my window open, and I swear he tells his old redneck daddy something about Saskatchewan and laughing and they are all looking at me and the kid is laughing, and I am thinking "You f**king little snot-nosed bastard" but of course at this point I am terrified of Americans, and assume they are all Bush supporters and I know they all hate Canadians in this part of the world right now, so I just ignored them. So, I get my shopping done, head to Old Navy right before I left, and see this "$5 T-Shirt sale!" sign, and see they come in all sizes, from babies to 2XL. So I think "right on", and look through the pile - every single one has an American flag on it. Every single one. I wanted to just speed back to Saskatchewan, but of course, I am even more terrified of the state troopers, and I swear to God, I almost kissed the border guards coming back home. By the way, I ditched all the pills in the McDonald's parking lot in Minot to be safe! So anyway, the whole thing was really funny in a way, because this fun little day turned into this paranoid hell, but it just served to prove that the whole patriotism thing, well, freaks me out.... Anyway, don't stone me with patriotic rebuffs... this is just one paranoid Canadian's opinion... and now off to bed, because I am off to Saskatoon bright and early if the snow doesn't fall as predicted....
