I suppose it could also be said that a *truly* loving person would not be against a person eating their own cow in India. Regardless of what you think about eating meat or vegetarianism, eating beef > involves killing and butchering an animal, and there are no two ways about > this. A living creature is destroyed - harmed. Eating plants involves killing and butchering plants or plant parts or offspring, destroying living creatures too - harming plants or plant parts. Life is a paradox because it propetuates itself through the taking of life... through death of another or a part of another. Oooo I just had a wild thought. Wouldn't it be sick if we started harvesting animal limbs like we do plant parts? This reminds me that my grandfather used to call eggs "hen fruit." If, on the other hand, two women or two men get married, I can't see *any* harm to > *any* living creature, of *any* sort. I understand that you can't see any harm. It isn't easy to see without having an understanding of world religions. > Members of all of the 'great religions', in large numbers, have very > deliberately trod on the toes of people who were doing them no harm, "Doing them no harm" is subjective. and confining the argument to the subject under discussion here, they have vilified > and persecuted gay people down the ages, and continue to do so. I try to steer clear of broad generalizations like this because it can lead to prejudice. There is nothing loving about most of this stuff, despite all the cant about 'hating > the sin not the sinner'. This sounds like a quote Christians voice. Are you refering to Christians here? If so, you might find it interesting that Jesus Christ never spoke out against homosexuals but spoke out a lot against Pharisees. I wouldn't listen to Christians who speak out against homosexuals. They very well could be Pharisees. > I'm not religious and never have been, so it's probably easy for me to > dismiss these sacred cows as irrelevant at best and malignant at worst. I understand. Some people have no interest in learning about the religions of man. I don't know why I have an interest, but I do. I took a lot of philosophy and religion in college and continue to learn today. One set of people and their beliefs that really fascinate me are the Crow Indians in Montana. What an awesome people with some very unique religious beliefs! Thanks for sharing Azeem. Bobtroy, this is such a nice idea! But... the image of the hipflask looks non-genuine (i.e. a photoshop job)... The main giveaway is that the sides of a hipflask are curved, and the edges of the joni image are totally straight, indicating a cut and shut job, and not a very good one at that. I could also rattle on about the obviously different image qualities of the hipflask versus the joni image, but I'd get hassle from a certain singer for talking about incomprehensible "boy things" if I did that. Perhaps the seller really is selling genuine items, but they're not going very far to make it look that way by not depicting the real thing. And what is it with eBay adverts...? In fact, I can't even listen to one disc without skipping over at least one track. First, it has to be played loud - not full-blast loud, but loud enough to make you feel like you're in a concert hall or something - something to give you some dynamic range and to let you hear the whole orchestra (maybe if you have a decent stereo system, you don't need to do this, but I don't have one of those.) Second, it's pretty mood-y music. You either play it at night, or when the weather is moody. I listened to it in the car on the way to work (and home) the other day. The sky was cloudy and grey. That helped. Third, and maybe this is just me, don't listen to it too often. I always skip "The Circle Game". I never much liked this song to begin with, or maybe did at one time, but it's been done Soooooo many times, that I'm tired of it and I find this version too slow, um, sort of like so many other songs on T'log, which is maybe why I don't listen too it too often - nothing against slow music, but there just seems to be too many slow numbers here in a row. Time for a new sentence. There are a few songs that I like better than the originals, specifically "You dream flat tires" and "Be cool"; some that I like as much as the original ("God must be a boogie man", and possibly "Otis and Marlena" and "Just like this train", although for these last two, I need to be in a particular kind of mood to hear them that way.) --- Kate Bennett wrote: > woooHOOOO! I'm surprised this thing is being auctioned at all and isn't one of those "buy now!!!" dealies. On E-Bay you can buy Joni Mitchell bumper stickers, ciggie lighters, Tarot cards, clocks and you know there may be more. Somehow I don't think the artist receives any royalties on these. The Main Street Cafe was sold out and probably the most respectful audiance I've seen. During the incredible performances everyone was silent, no talking over the entertainers,(not even me). Susan Is a true gem and we all need to put on the pressure now to get her to Jonifest 2004. Her narrative in between sets was a great information filled Travelogue of Joni's career for those who weren't that familiar. She certainly gave great homage to the JMDL and I'm sure we will have a whole new delegation of posters after last nights tribute. I am not going to give a review because I think Susan and Pearl should take those Honors I am only here to gush about my delight, my God David even went and had as much fun as at Jonifest getting to know everyone. Bob,Your "Sweet Sixteen" covers in the raffle got lots of oohs and awes. I arrived about 45 minutes late but Susan had us at her table with Steve and Pearl right up front. She was kind enough to open her home for David and I to sleep over but we had to get back to Fort Myers so even with Jeb's police state of road blocks we made it home by 3:30am. It gave me great joy to get to raise our glasses and sing "Happy Birthday" to Joni this year. I now have to get it together and head to the ranch in Alva because Pearl and Steve will be at a party for one of Steve's clients so I've invited them to stop in on there way back to the East coast.
