People who love Joni...NJC That was a beautiful post Mags. You are both loved and that is what this whole wonderful crooked mess is about.. Life is about Loving and being loved, losing and finding, giving and taking, holding close and letting go, the confidence of strangers and the familiarity of friends and loved ones, shadows and light, highs and lows, words and silence, being there and being absent. LIfe is about storms and tranquility, winter nights and summer mornings, dogs and cats, anger and peace, war and reconciliation, misunderstandings and comprehension, adding and subtracting.... The list of opposites is unending and just beginning. For me this life is more and more about the people I have chosen to be with, listen to, talk with, laugh and love and spend time with, share my thoughts and ideas with and, whilst so much of my life is about daily reality, there is a huge section that I "virtually" cherish for all the reasons you mention in your post. They are people of heart and mind.. they are all those who will read this post because they are people who love JONI and that is why I know you all, and especially Mags and Brian... Your problems and grief have become mine also.... and whatever part I can be in that to help you over come the hurdles I shall be honoured to consider you my friends... Your generosity of spirit and hospitality before and after FEST will remain the most wonderful experience... without the list I would never have got to know you.. And all of you who read this and who have ever responded off list and on, you are my wonderful ether family on whom I count for something to always brighten my day.... Thank you for finding Joni and being part of this list whoever and wherever you may be. It's about business men going to prostitutes to basically spill their guts out and get the love they can't get from their wives. Also check out "There Are Some Men To Gentle To Live Among Wolves", Kind of like Joni with the music business. I read this a few years ago and knew that Joni had a problem with poetry, but I forgot what she said her problem was. And Nietzsche on poets! "He muddies his waters that he might appear deep." That's priceless. I have to say that I agree with much of what Joni says on this subject, especially regarding the "guile" and "posturing." I share her admiration for Yeats, but I really do lose my patience with poetry -- especially the "modern" stuff of say, the last 100 years or so. I can get into some poetry anthologies, but when I delve into the work of any one poet -- Sexton and Plath, for example, but also Frost and Lowell and others -- I zzzzzzzzzz. One of the reasons I love Joni so much is for her "poetry," and I wish I knew of a bunch of others who wrote as well. Can anyone here recommend any good poets, or has that become an oxymoron? Also, I think Joni was having a reaction in this interview to being compared to two confessional poets. You know how she hates that business! - --Bob, just waiting for Muller to suggest Rod McKuen . . . << 'Her lyrics have been compared to the poems of Anne Sexton and Sylvia Plath. 'But it is a comparison at which she bristles. "I'm with Nietzsche on the poets: 'The poet is the vainest of the vain, even before the ugliest of water buffalo does he fan his tail. I ve looked among them for an honest man and all I've dredged up are old gods' heads. He muddies his waters that he might appear deep.'" This happenend to me in 1999 (I think it was) (Rochester, NY.) . . . . I didn't see it coming. I was at Joni's concert with 13 friends and when she started playing Amelia. I had no idea this was going to happen. . . . I broke down totally and started screaming and crying. . . . (I am laughing about it now). . . I just didn't expect her to sing this. . The only thing I could think to compare this to is : Did you ever see some of the footage from the Beatles concerts where the fans are going mad, breaking down and they can't contain themselves? Well, that was me. b r e a k d o w n I also made a big sign for that November evening. . .. it said, "Here's to YOU, Joni." (her song, "Here's to you, may your dreams come true. . . " I don't think she wrote this but I am not sure.) At a convenient time, 10 of us stood up and raised the sign and yelled, "HERE'S TO YOU JONI!" She had a glass in her hand at the time and she raised her glass to us! Here's to you Joni. SoHo is in New York City. I don't know the origin of "Soho." "SoHo," however, is a coined word, a sort of abbreviation or contraction for "South of Houston Street," a street in New York City. 'paved paradise' is what made me such a fanatic that my first ever web search was for joni mitchell, and my first post to this list (the thread was meeting celebrities) was about john kelly. if you've never read it, read about the time joni finally saw 'paved paradise'. it's on jonimitchell.com, somewhere. by the way, i found a used copy of the movie 'wigstock' recently, bought it, and watched it the night before last. it was filmed in 93 and 94, and i was at both festivals and in '93 i was in drag (one of only two times in my life, i looked like angie dickinson). man did the movie take me back! so many shots of my friends and acquaintances. so much fun. and you do get to see john as joni at the end. patrick np - bonnie raitt - 2-22-72 Philadelphia, PA, Sigma Studios >-----Original Message----- >From: owner-joni@jmdl.com [mailto:owner-joni@jmdl.com]On Behalf Of >BRYAN8847@aol.com >Sent: Wednesday, September 17, 2003 10:02 PM >To: joni@smoe.org >Subject: John Kelly in Seattle NJC > > >I'll NJC this because it's only marginally Joni related.... > >Did anyone see John Kelly's Shiny Hot Nights show in Seattle (or >anywhere)?
