Finding one of those three in any person isn't such a rare thing, but to find them all - and more - in one person is a precious thing. You rule, baby! I have rarely heard such clear, sensible talk coming from a politician. He had some very pointed and decisive things to say about national security. Kerry was interviewed this morning. Scored some points, but I have a hunch he really wanted to vote No on invading Iraq but didn't. Just a hunch. I was getting excited about Dean, but now I don't think so. When interviewed recently he said he "hadn't really thought about" the gay marriage question. This was an obvious fabrication; as the governor of a state that approved gay civil unions during his tenure, he has obviously thought about it (regardless of my position on the issue, I think he was squirming and avoiding the question). I also don't think he's electable. Bryan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Aug 2003 01:03:22 -0400 From: "Lama, Jim L'Hommedieu" Subject: Sometimes CD really *IS* superior, njc I admit it. Sometimes a CD wipes the floor with my old vinyl. Case in point: the re-mastered ALL THINGS MUST PASS, by George Harrison. I bought the 3-LP set when it was brand new back in 1653. It was the pride of Apple Records at the time but they didn't put the hole in the middle of the platter. The songs wobbled. Not just "It's Johnny's Birthday". *All* of the songs wobbled. I dug the songs anyway but..... Fifteen years later I got another copy at a second hand store and it was exactly the same. Whoever pressed it for Apple didn't know how to punch the hole. How hard could it be? Anyway, the re-mastered CD emphatically does NOT wobble. My favorite song is "Apple Scruffs" which catches Harrison in his Happy Mode, like "Crackerbox Palace". There's the afore mentioned silly song, a couple of jams, a Beatle-esque "I Dig Love", and the hits. If you've seen "The Concert For Bangladesh", you've heard live versions of "What Is Life?" and "Wah-Wah". The studio versions are here. There's a song Sir George wrote one called "I'd Have You Anytime" with some disciple of Woody Guthrie's. He also stole Dylan's "If Not For You" and changed a rhyme. Oh, I almost forgot: "My Sweet Love" and two versions of "Isn't It A Pity". There's animation on www.allthingsmustpass.com which seems to have been inspired by Terry Gilliam. I guess I like it okay. Lama ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Aug 2003 01:18:21 -0400 From: "Lama, Jim L'Hommedieu" Subject: two fest memories with joni content, njc Beautifully expressed, Patrick. Thanks to everyone who made this year memorable. We got through another one. Lama Mr. Leader said, >>anita gabrielle had done a terrific, customized, audience participation version of 'woodstock' in the blackout hours of thursday, which i hoped might be reprised on sunday (and was). but earlier, she decided to play 'i think i understand'. she told us the album had been extremely important to her at a dark time in her life; she had not been able to listen to it for more than 20 years and had only recently taken it up again. she was clearly nervous and emotional, but she sang the song beautifully and simply. and on the chorus, voices very quietly chipped in... i think i understand fear is like a wilderland stepping stones or sinking sand a room full of people singing 'i think i understand' together. in this life we get glimpses of heaven.>> ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Aug 2003 02:27:00 -0400 From: ljirvin@jmdl.com Subject: Today in History: August 19 1969: The Dick Cavett Show, taped a day earlier, aired on this day.
