I've been getting your music announcements from time to time at my work address. It's always great to see your activities in the music world. I admire you that you do music all the time and I always think of you fondly. I think of your amazing wolf song. Now that I have a bit more time, maybe I can try to learn it from the Jonifest CD. Have been so so busy in the last year - stressed - but I think/hope things are starting to slow down a bit and get better (it still seems a bit hectic, being away from home for nearly two weeks for work starting tomorrow - I will miss the family). I have been on only-Joni digest for the last year and I don't always have time to read everything even in that, so have missed a lot of stuff, I guess. I sure wish I could go to Jonifest this year. It was really a great experience last year and I'm sure this year will be as amazing, if not more so. I will be thinking of you all! Quite a character- I've seen some interview footage of him talking about the old days of Sun. He never bragged about Elvis, and never whined about selling his contract. The paragon of cool. He also launched the carreers of Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Whew! Play it again, Sam. (I'm including a link to Real Audio files below.) Terry Gross, host of the program, is a gifted interviewer, and much of the hour on Thursday was devoted to her 1997 interview with Sam Phillips. Today's program included parts of interviews with Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash as each of them talked about Phillips and Sun. I sat by the radio in awe both days. This is first-rate stuff, and I just love the Sam Phillips speaking voice, too! For any who may not be familiar with "Fresh Air," it's an NPR (National Public Radio) program out of Philadelphia. Akerlof lashed out at the government of George W. Bush, calling it the 'worst ever' in American history, Der Spiegel magazine reported Tuesday. 'I think this is the worst government the US has ever had in its more than 200 years of history. It has engaged in extradordinarily irresponsible policies not only in foreign policy and economics but also in social and environmental policy,' said the 2001 Nobel Prize laureate who teaches economics at the University of California in Berkeley. 'This is not normal government policy. Now is the time for (American) people to engage in civil disobedience. I think it's time to protest - as much as possible,' the 61-year-old scholar added. Akerlof has been recognized for his research that borrows from sociology, psychology, anthropology and other fields to determine economic influences and outcomes. His areas of expertise include macro-economics, monetary policy and poverty." ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Aug 2003 23:06:39 -0700 From: "Kate Bennett" Subject: RE: Bush is so awful (njc) (pc) >Hmmm.
