It WAS strange and surprising. I wanted to ask the sweet old lady behind the counter if she knew where the tape or whatever came from but figured she probably wouldn't know. It was some kind of modern day Musak compilation because the next song was something cheesy from the 70s. Forgot to add that this Jericho was an instrumental and was very beautiful - like something from a Brian Blade album. I searched through about 400 "Jerichos" on CDNow until my computer crashed twice and I gave up ;-) There were a few from the trance music genre that looked like possibilities but there were no listening samples for them. It seems elusive but I'll keep looking and maybe even ask the hospital "music coordinator" for more info next visit! ;-) Kakki ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Jun 2003 06:46:35 -0400 From: "Jim Leonard" Subject: Re: neil young njc From: SCJoniGuy@aol.com > I bet the Rust list (Neil Young Discussion List) is hopping now! > We're averaging about 300 posts per day. "Rusties," of course, won't believe it until they actually see them in the bins. The newly-remastered, never-before-released discs are "On The Beach," "American Stars 'n Bars," "Hawks & Doves" and "Re-ac-tor." These have been referred for years as four of "The Missing Six." Two others will remain, for now, unreleased - the soundtrack to Neil's movie "Journey Through The Past," and "Time Fades Away." Neil's new "rock opera," "Greendale," will be released in early August with accompanying DVD. (Of course, originally it was to have been released June 5.) Neil and Crazy Horse, with a bevy of actors, are touring the "electric" version of "Greendale" in North America this summer. (Tampa was fantastic!) He also presented the whole enchilada in Europe this spring, with just his acoustic guitars, his harmonica, and his antique pump organ. Between songs, he spoke at length to advance the "Greendale" story. The North American Tour began in West Palm Beach, FL on June 8, just a week after the European solo acoustic tour wrapped up. That's a pretty impressive turn-around, when one considers the scope of the electric presentation with all the staging, live actors, and multimedia. Tampa was the second show, and it all came off without a hitch (a few technical video screen snafus excepted). Yep ... the Rust List has been hopping since April, with no end in sight. It's always an active list, but since April it's been insane. Do you have any details for those of us not on Rust List? As far as I know the only unreleased album is On the Beach, which happens to be one of my personal faves. The bootleg CDs of it were not so good in quality. You mention "many" albums???? Also, to add a comment to Musicisspecial's post, Neil and Joni are the only 2 artists I know who are totally unpredictable as far as what style the next album or concert is going to be. And that's one thing I love about them. Laurent ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Jun 2003 11:04:39 +0100 From: "Garret" Subject: Stop the Car! (Freeze in the bathroom!) I loved that album; still do. To this day i cannot get over the closing four tracks on that album (Daddy, Don't, Angel Standing By, Amen). I think they work so well in that order. I like to think it was not just a happy accident! She did a huge amount of promotional work and eventually the sales began to clock up. Did she sell 12million? As the album became more popular, she started re-mixing the songs. The single version of You were meant for me is more pop oriented than the original version on the first pressings of hte album. Same with Foolish Games. HOwever, it is the re-mixed versions of Morning Song and the like that bug me. It was almost an afterthought release - "she's doing well; let's milk them with this and deliver something that is not too far removed from typical radio pop-music" (would that be junk for juveniles and all that sort of stuff?) The second album, Spirit, is a nice album. It is nothing more than nice. She went a lot more towards radio friendly melodies and instrumentation (and there is nothing to rival "you say he's a faggot, does he make you sick to your stomach?" / "Gonna rip out your heart the way you did mine, daddy", "you were never anything less than beautiful, so don't you worry, i'm your angel standing by" etc). Now, there is a big part of me that does not respect a deliberate move towards radio friendly, as it often/usually involves a loss of quality. ALthough i like Jewel's second album, she had, in my opinion, taken a qualitative dive southwards. It seemed to me as if she was seeking bigtime sales as opposed to trying tomake good music (i am aware that good music can have big sales;-) Then the christmas album - I love it. It is a lot of fun. It is surprising to get such a traditional set from her i guess. It was produced by Arif Mardin which may explain some of that ( i only know Mardin's work in relation to Bette Midler and the like). This album really has a good chirstmassy feel and manages to get me into the christmas spirit; singing and dancing in the kitchen. But after that she did nothing to interest me. Not a thing. She seems to want to sell another 12million and is doing her best to touch these vital statistics once again, and i just don't like what she is doing. Now, the other kind of vital statistics, lol, as Bob said, i don't think she needed implants. SHe appeared on the cover of People magazine a few years ago around the time of the cinema release of Ride With The Devil, her movie with Tobey Maguire and Skeet Ulrich directed by Ang Lee - a great movie. She was wearing a corset and looked every inch the baywatch star that she never was! I don't think she has lost her marbles, but is trying to appeal to an audience that will spend spend spend- and it is a very shrewd move. But don't you love her version of Fleetwood Mac's You Make Loving Fun? I must admit I avoided the Mystery White Boy album, because I had been quite disappointed with some of the other albums that had been released after his death such as Sketches for My Sweetheart. I felt Grace was so perfect, that I'd rather live with that, rather than hear more and more second rate albums being milked out of unfinished and discarded recordings. But just as you avoided Jeff only to regret it later, maybe I shouldn't avoid the MWB album either? I promise I'll give it a try! All the best, Lieve. PS It breaks my heart to think that Jeff played Glastonbury sometime in the nineties and I missed it in unblissful ignorance! PPS His father Tim Buckley gets compared to Joni quite often, for the start in folk music, the great development in style through a high number of albums that often left the old fans baffled, the refusal to go commercial, and the experimentation with other styles such as jazz... (See article comparing Tim and Joni on the website http://www.timbuckleyandfriends.com/TimBuckleyandFriendsindex.html - then scroll ALL THE WAY down, yes even way past the listing for the "Joni Mitchell page" and you come to an article heading (in red) entitled "Blue ... Blue Afternoon" which deals exactly with these similarities. Thankfully, most of Joni's song titles are unique, and if you find a "Hissing Of Summer Lawns", "Urge For Going", or "Song To A Seagull" you can be pretty darn sure it's a Joni cover. In that case, how do you skip over one song that you don't like quite as much, or repeat one that you're really into at the time? Some CDs have the sound and feel of one song blending into another but in fact, there is a gap - it's probably a nanosecond long, but it's there. That's what I want and I'm sure you can get it. In fact you can probably get it with whatever burning program you have (I've got Roxio, it came with the Windows Media Player.) I just don't know how to get at that stuff because it's really just an applet that you open up within Windows Media Player, so I have no idea how to get at it to make the changes, but logic tells me you can probably do this. ===== Catherine Toronto ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Jun 2003 20:15:41 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: eastmountainsouth njc --- Kate Bennett wrote: > no one has responded yet but i'm not letting go of > this subject! Brilliant writing, absolutely."
