What do you mean? $260? for what? Insurance? I pay that a month! then > there is diesel at $1.60 > per litre. I don't know the cost of diesel here, but I think our gasoline is a lot cheaper than it is in Europe. The price goes up and down every day here and depending on what gas station you go to, and even what neighbourhood you happen to buy it in, or whether it's a weekday or a weekend (when prices mysteriously go up for no apparent reason.) Right now gas is between 65 and 70 cents a litre. I think it's quite a bit cheaper in the US, but I could be wrong (this is Canadian dollars and cents I'm using, so add about 35% to US equivalents. > TV tax costs about 222 per year. > House tax costs 1800 per year. > gas and electric and water about 200 pm. We don't pay TV tax. You beat us there. I understand they have trucks going around over there looking for illegal TV signals - for some reason, this strikes me as incredibly funny. If you're quoting in pounds for house tax, that's probably about the same as us - again, this differs a lot depending on what city you live in. Toronto was actually lower than other cities for quite a while, but in the last ten years, they've gone to market-value assessment and property taxes have gone way up. Your other utilities are probably about the same (?) I have an oil furnace and it was a cold winter, so I paid a lot this year. All I know is, I'm behind in my payments. Also, I failed to recognize in my earlier post the differences in tax brackets. If you were quoting pounds before, you'd have to double it (I think) to get Canadian dollar equivalency, which means you make a fair bit more than I do so I'm not sure what someone make $100k a year would pay percentage-wise - maybe the same as what I pay (?) > oh and a penny per breath...... ... in which case, holding your breath becomes a virtue! ===== Catherine Toronto ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Jun 2003 07:03:46 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: pills njc --- colin wrote: > > i just got a letter from the hospital informing me I > m on a waiting list > for physio for my neck and shoulde expect an > appointment in 4 mths > minimum!!!! > > I still have not had the follow up with the > cardiologist. This sounds like here in the good old province of Ontario. Waiting lists for physio - we have them here (unless you can afford to pay one in private practice, which most people can't) so it's live in pain and possibly develop a deformity or other health problems while waiting. Plus waiting lists for surgeries of various kinds (made worse by the fact that many hospitals closed elective surgeries during the SARS outbreak). And waiting lists for radiation therapy for cancer because there's a shortage of radiologists (I think this is a worldwide problem.) ===== Catherine Toronto ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Jun 2003 07:08:25 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: animali njc --- Kate Bennett wrote: > > > kate, big furry but sweet dog lover & owner > You're big and furry? We've got three puddy-tats and one little doggie - a Papillon who is now 10 yrs old. I've had her for two years - she was a former showdog. She's totally sweet and, as far as the unconditional love goes, I keep wanting to tell her how not-worthy I am (worship someone else! this goddess has feet of clay!) There is usually at least one cat, and sometimes the dog, sleeping on my bed. Sometimes there are cat fights (how enjoyable) on the bed - then I just flip the covers and off they go. ===== Catherine Toronto ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Jun 2003 07:26:24 EDT From: FMYFL@aol.com Subject: Re: six feet under NJC The funeral home burns down !!!! But James preceded Richard, as did also Jackson Browne, And the former was a junkie, while the latter was a clown; And so the patrons wondered; whobd be the first to shout For there seemed but little chance of these two working issues out Then Richard played the jukebox, to the wonderment of all, He pushed three buttons boldly then returned unto his stall Just then the barmaid stepped up and let out a hearty cry "Everyone drink on up now, for closing time is nigh" Then from behind my 17 glasses there rose a lusty yell; It rumbled through the canyon, it rattled in the dell; I stood and stared at Richard, cleared my throat as like a cough For it had come the time for me to tell poor Richard off! "You havenbt really changed," I said, "You're still the same old twit, You have some pain inside your head, you're romanticizing it Those love songs are like tombstones, they're heavy as concrete Oh when oh when will you awake, and get back on your feet?" Richard went on to marry a gal who glides upon the ice, And purchased some appliances, he thought them fairly nice But now he sits all by himself and drinks his life away Remembering when I told him off in our cynical cafC) Oh, somewhere in this favored land dreamers are passing by Lovers walk with arms entwined and breathe a lovely sigh And somewhere men are laughing, and little children shout; But Detroit is far from joyful b mighty Richard has struck out. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Jun 2003 14:26:44 -0700 From: "Victor Johnson" Subject: RE: What If... > Oh, somewhere in this favored land dreamers are passing by > Lovers walk with arms entwined and breathe a lovely sigh > And somewhere men are laughing, and little children shout; > But Detroit is far from joyful b mighty Richard has struck out. LOL!!!!!!!! By the way, yesterday at Whole Foods, I was treated to not just one Joni song on the store speakers but two- "California" not long after I got there and just as I was starting to feel completely worn out, "The Last Time I Saw Richard". And these are not songs I would typically expect to hear on the radio...satellite and online seem to be the way to go. Speaking of baseball, the Braves beat the Rangers last night with a dramatic eigth inning pinch homer by Andruw Jones...and I don't think he was using a corked bat. Send me some good vibes please, I will feel them... Azeem in London 1. Never take a beer to a job interview. 2. Always identify people in your yard before shooting them. 3. It's tacky to take an esky to church. 4. If you have to vacuum the bed, it's time to change the sheets. 5. Even if you're certain you're included in the will, it's rude to take the trailer to the funeral home. DINING OUT: 1. When decanting wine from the box, tilt the paper cup and pour slowly so as not to bruise the wine. 2. If drinking directly from the bottle, hold it with only one hand. ENTERTAINING IN YOUR HOME: 1. A centrepiece for the table should never be anything prepared by a taxidermist. 2. Don't allow the dog to eat at the table, no matter how good his manners are. PERSONAL HYGIENE: 1. While ears need to be cleaned regularly, this should be done in private, using one's OWN ute keys. 2. Even if you live alone, deodorant isn't a waste of money. 3. Use of toiletries can only delay bathing a few days. 4. Dirt and grease under the fingernails is a no-no, as it detracts from a woman's jewellery and alters the taste of finger foods. DATING (Outside the Family): 1. Always offer to bait your date's hook, especially on the first date. 2. Be assertive. Let her know you're interested: "I've been wanting to go out with you since I read that stuff on the dunny door two years ago." 3. Establish with her parents what time she's expected back. Some will say 10.00:00 PM, others might say "Monday." If the latter is the answer, it's the man's responsibility to get her to school on time. THEATRE ETIQUETTE: 1. Crying babies should be taken to the lobby and picked up after the movie ends. 2. Refrain from talking to characters on the screen. Tests have proven they can't hear you. WEDDINGS: 1. Livestock is a poor choice for a wedding gift. 2. Kissing the bride for more than five seconds may get you shot. 3. For the groom, at least, rent a tux. A track suit with a cummerbund and a clean football jumper can create a tacky appearance. 4. Though uncomfortable, say "yes" to socks and shoes for the occasion. DRIVING ETIQUETTE: 1. Dim your headlights for approaching vehicles, even if the gun's loaded and the roo's in sight. 2. When approaching a round-about, the vehicle with the largest tyres doesn't always have the right of way. 3. Never tow another car using panty hose and duct tape. 4. When sending your wife down the road with a petrol can, it's impolite to ask her to bring back beer, too. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Jun 2003 19:56:36 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: animali njc --- colin wrote: > I have met two people in mylife > who did not like music > at all-never listened and said they didn't like it. > I did notlike either > of them-both were cold and arrogant people who cared > little for others. > I knew this before I knew they didn;'t like music.
