Well, I must confess I don't know Itxaso (accompanied at guitar by Daniel P'erez and by Gorka Beni'tez at sax): She's obiously (by her name) from Euskadi (Basque country) and very very few basques singers are known throughout the whole country In her web page I found that these themes belong to her first album "Lur Berria - New land" (published by Fresh Sound Records): she sangs 5 songs in english and the rest in euskera: her language that, unless spanish, galician, catalonian and other euro languages isn't "romance" (latin rooted): in fact, is from unknown source, and apparently more ancient than greek. (among the 5 themes [...] one must underline the double dedication to Joni Mitchell in "CL" & "NRH". Both passages allow us to test the fortunate influence that the great canadian dame exerted upon Itxaso) Humm: it makes me long for more. I have my CD burner hooked up to my regular stereo rack so I can burn a CD from anything, including a radio broadcast. Angles | Marketing & Strategy > paul@anglesnet.com | 310-704-9448 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Jun 2003 22:44:38 -0700 (PDT) From: Chrys Jordan Subject: A Song for Sharon, and what it means to me I thought I'd start out with a post nearly as long as the titular song (hey that rhymes!) and tell you that the simple guitar strains on "Song for Sharon" give me literally the chills. I can't sing, but I try to sing along, and I've been singing that song everywhere, and now I wonder: are my feeble efforts a compliment or an insult to Joni? That is the song I should have hated. My mother (we are estranged) is named Sharon. Now I wonder who Joni's 'Sharon' is. The lyrics sound as though Joni is telling Sharon something, and taking awhile to get to the point (as we all do when it's a painful subject). The end of a relationship, interspersed with scenes from New York as she (Joni, the singer) is trying to deal with it and talk about it. The last line is a study in contrasts. Sharon has settled down, and Joni hasn't. She still has her "eyes on the land and the sky." I wonder if she realises how Mongolian that phrase is. The music is gentle as waves, and tiny changes are noticeable. Listening to this unblocked me trying to write a song of my own: the only similiarity is that mine is addressed to a person, in this case Brian, and it's a study in contrasts between a young man who just killed himself and a friend who had never been suicidal. I'll conclude by thanking Joni, and of course if my own lyrics turn out to stink, blame me for them. "We all live so close to that line...."
