We talked about the how bad her cold was - I had always imagined if I met her I'd be a)speechless or b)gush all over her about how brilliant she is. I then thought about the Joni Fest and what I'd say if I ever met her again and if I'd talk viruses with her or not! Anyway, I then read the lists of Today in History and realised it was twenty years ago today! I love those things. Also I have just received news of this year's Cropredy Festival in the UK and noticed that Blue Tapestry are playing. " Sorry but you can count me out of ever behaving like some star struck loon.. and I have never got the feeling that anyone here would behave like that either. I admire her music and like most of it but to meet her would be neither here nor there. I spent the best part of an hour with James Taylor (it is a long-ish story and also involves another musician called RAbbit Bundry who was a mate of ours and his girlfriend sue who was a very old friend of Pete Ashers and we went to see James Play in London in '86)..I digress...... and managed not to either pee my pants, scream hysterically nor gush swooningly over him. My ex-husband however sat there with his jaw on the floor and didn't wash the hand that shook Lee Sklar's for about a week.... My thoughts about Joni coming to the fest would be that she would just turn up, join in the listening, maybe sing a song or two and leave with no fuss... AND I THINK THOSE WHO COUNT THEMSELVES HER REAL FANS would let her go with out demands for photos, autographs or yelling out "HEY I AM YOUR No 1 Fan" I am 46 and have to say that with age has come a certain amount of dignity and recognition that just cos I bought the albums the singer does not owe me any favours.. Remember, while Ashara orchestrates this whole thing (bless her heart!) ,the reality is, this is OUR fest...we can make it happen . or not. I'd much rather see this wonderful tradition carry on until we all have peacock blue hair and walkers ;-) ever wonder why Ashara pulls this off each and every year? Because she loves it as much as we do ! It is a unique amazing weekend that I dont want to see end. Listen to the voices. If you havent had a chance to go to jmdl.com and check out the stories and photographs of last year's Fest..do so! And check out Chris Marshall's site hatstand.org for even more photo essays of this incredible wonderful NorthEast Joni Fest. It is one thing to get together during the year over dinner or lunch or touring NYC with a jmdler or two or three...however...it is NOT the same as being at Fest, which has a life energy all its own. Ive never felt a sense of community as I do there. Imagine if you will..... ....driving up to the Full Moon Resort and having several people run to your car cheering and laughing and so happy to see you after an entire year has passed. Imagine humming or singing a Joni tune to yourself as you are walking down the path and suddenly a host of voices join in with you... in beautiful, natural harmony. And everyone knows the words!!!!! Imagine being able to talk about Joni in public and everyone around you knows who you are talking about, with NO need to explain!!! Imagine when love comes to your door, when you least expect it. ;-) This CAN be a dream you have awake...you CAN make it happen. You can have the most memorable time of your life. You can be drawn to the centre of this wonderful community and experience, the life force, energy, laughter, incredible music by world class musicians... the most important message I'd like to convey today and I cannot say it enough.... just do it!!!! we have worked so hard to get to "here". We share so much with one another, our daily lives, the ups and downs. Our community is special and rare, something which I am especially drawn to in these troubled times. with no talk of war or politics or anything... songs of joy and peace and sometimes sorrow. come back to the garden.... with no regrets coyote.... give Ashara that call/email and let her know you intend to come...better yet..send in that money! :-))) many many many thanks to each and every one of you for making this the time or our lives!!!!!!!!!
