However, from what I recently saw in the U.S., that virus has spread over there very rapidly. Now, seriously, I know the perfect place in southwest France to conduct a Jonifest. It's near Carcassone (direct cheap flights from the U.K and Scotland), full of historical landmarks and old castles, waterfalls, canyons etc. A hippie community has been living there since the 70's when the "communes" exploded. In fact they now appear to be the real locals. That would truly be a "back to the garden" experience. Bob, I'll be there end of July if you can make it. Also, the cost of airfare travel to France has hit an alltime low: $480 roundtrip from L.A. or SF! I would happily go anywhere in France for a FEST.... HOw about Joni fest in Disneyland Paris ((OOOOOOOOH NEVER!!!!!! PLEASE NEVER) I do not think a lot of the JMDL-ers in the US "get" how easy it is for them to attend the fest..... there are now at least 5 of us coming from the UK or there abouts. The air fare is a minimum of $700 (I am typing 700 dollars there in case it comes out as something funny when translated!!!) plus all the other travelling and staying in New York. The FEST is VERY REASONABLY priced and most of the US people seem to be able to fly from one place to another really quite cheaply... Anyone coming from the UK is going to end up spending the best part of eighteen hundred dollars just to see you all..... (taking in to account the other expenses) BUT WE THINK ITS WORTH IT.... to see you...... I DONT understand why you are not signing up and finding there is a waiting list... COME ON... Last night it was "Free Man in Paris"...I even asked the lady I was ringing up if she was a Joni Mitchell fan and she said "No...should I be?", apparently not even realizing it was Joni playing. All the music is satellite provided but they play a really good, diverse selection of material...never boring. Even heard YES "Roundabout" the other day. Later, I was ringing someone up...they were talking to someone else in line about lasic eye surgery, recommending a particular physician and saying that he was really good, and said "Yeah, but he did 600 people before he did me." And a guy behind him said, right on cue, " He must have been pretty tired." And everybody just lost it and started laughing...except for the guy...Even his mom(behind him) was howling... PERMA-VINE RULES: 1) When you receive your Perma-Vine disc you must MAKE COPIES FOR YOURSELF and re-post an offer on JMDL. You will forward the ORIGINAL DISC onto the next recipient (you may NOT keep the original Perma-Vine disc). This method ensures that all participants can get a clean, glitch-free copy of this show directly off the original disc. 2) You must re-post your offer of this vine only to JMDL. If, after two postings within 48 hours, there is no response, you may then, and only then, post the Perma-Vine offer to another group, but you MUST post an announcement to JMDL indicating which group you have transferred this Perma-Vine to. 3) By requesting these Perma-Vine discs, you have agreed to make this show available to those who are unable to burn copies for themselves (and, thus, cannot participate directly in this Perma-Vine). You agree to post an offer(s) on JMDL for at least one burnerless individual as soon as you have forwarded the original Perma-Vine disc onto the next recipient. You may B+P or trade this to as many as you like AFTER you have forwarded the Perma-Vine discs onto the next recipient. 4) You further agree to keep the Perma-Vine disc in your possession no longer than 72 hours before re-offering. 5) Lastly, you agree to ENJOY this music immensely! Patrick, I'm sure you were disappointed with the movie because Alison was stealing your popcorn, throwing jujubees at people, drinking a beer in a paper bag, goosing people as they passed by, and calling jmdl friends on her cell phone. Just tell us you got thrown out of the theatre :~). Actually, watching any movie with the two of you would be a belly laugh. Glad yall had fun! Like many of us on the list, Julie Shephard's first encounter with Joni Mitchell was through the magic and wonder of Court and Spark. Julie tells me that she discovered her own voice by learning to sing and play the songs on this very album. What a wonderful introduction into the land of Joni!!!! Much like Joni, Julie's landscape consists of singing, writing songs (en francais et english), as well as playing guitar and piano. Her artistic adventures include writing poetry as well as painting images she sees and feels from within. There are some wonderful photographs on her site which speak volumes in support of her work. Julie has travelled the world and shares her vision with everyone who is willing to be still and listen to her stories. Julie's album, 'Completely and off the floor' is on sale at cdbaby. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/shephard You can also check Julie out on her web site....where you will find all kinds of wonderful information about her. www.julieshephard.com Julie's wonderful singing voice expresses a depth of emotion that touches her audiences far and wide. You will go on journeys with her as she expresses what matters to her within her words. I am so proud of her and very happy to be able to share her talents with you all. I think that places like cdbaby are amazing in that they promote the talent and gifts of people like Julie. Thank you for the opportunity to share this with you all. Enjoy. If you go to cdbaby..you can hear clips from her work. Send Julie a note, Im sure she'd love to hear from you and feel the warmth and support that is available in our community. love, Mags. I will be frank, Our President thinks it is more important to bomb things in Iraq than House the Poor especially here in Oregon. I also tried to upgrade my Win95 computer with AOL Version 8 which caused "Illegal page faults " that even spread back to AOL v4 that I reinstalled and I could not send just receive email. So I went out and bought a new Gateway300 with XP I am getting used to differences in word and excel this is part of the "Future Shock." I also bought a "Barbie" Computer Game for Amelia at 4 years she now pushes the mouse and clicks pretty good. On my new Gateway I burned the copies of the Joni and James BBC concert. The Quality is very good the performance of J&J are stellar and revealing 1. That Song About the Midway Joni (this is about JT he has a book about The Midway) 2. The Gallery Joni 3. Rainy Day Man James 4. Steamroller Blues James 5. The Priest Joni 6. Carey Joni (She tells all about the Dulcimer) 7. Carolina in my Mind James 8. California Joni & James 9. For Free Joni & James ( Joni is thinking about something for first two minutes, James guitar is aimless) 10. The Circle Game Joni & James (Written for the Canadian Rocker who wrote "Ode to Sugar Mountain" and sure enough she breaks in the song and says that she is "losing her voice " 11. You Can Close Your Eyes Joni & James (a real sweet duet pouring their emotions out of the sound hole by there Knees ) 12. Hunter Joni 13. River Joni 14. My Old Man Joni (Better version than on the Blue Album just enough concert hall reverb. 15.A Case of You Joni 16. Carey with unedited intro Joni So the official rules to the game is for me to send the ORIGINAL DISK to someone who can makes copy's and send one of my copies to someone who believes Joni is Siquomb. I saw the movie in friggin' CAMBRIDGE, sitting in a theater of people who looked like they were meant to be IN the movie -- so I was wondering what others thought of it, you know, like how it played in Peoria or SLC. I thought the movie was a riot, but mainly because *everyone* was laughing hysterically . . . Wait a minute, maybe you're right . . . I am impressionable! Do you think that's okay? Anyone? The disk arrived yesterday and after having checked it out I have made some copies. While the text is below - here is the deal in fewer words.... I have been sent a "1st generation disk" and I have made a copy (or two) for myself and am now looking to pass on the Baton to one of you. You get the disk from me IF you promise (cross your heart and hope to die) that you offer it to someone when you are done with it. Done with it? Yep - within a few days you make yourself a copy or two and then offer the 1st generation disk to another kind soul with a CD-burner who accepts the rules. Oh yes - in that not everyone has a burner you must burn a copy and give it away to someone WITHOUT a burner. Which, by the way, I am now doing - IN DOUBLE. So...I am expecting someone with a burner to except the rules and ask me for the original. AND I hope that two burnerless souls will ask me for a copy themselves. I sure hope that this is OK with Joni. As far as I know this is not commercially released material, and Joni (if you are reading this) I have bought all of you albums and CDs and many times at that in that I give them away all of the time as presents, nowadays turning on many of younger generations to your work. So I hope you don't get too up tight about this whole thing. I mean, where ARE the love children of yesteryear if not still listening to your music? Damn! I missed a concert by Crosby this evening in Orlando - but Ray Manzarek and Robby Kreiger (The Doors) are here next month. Like Joni, smart people with smart music. (Signed) Robban robert@argento.se Anyway....here are the rules: If you would like to be the recipient of the perma vine disc, please feel free to contact me! Here are the rules: PERMA-VINE RULES: 1) When you receive your Perma-Vine disc you must MAKE COPIES FOR YOURSELF and re-post an offer on JMDL. Here is the track information: 1) That Song About the Midway Joni 2) The Gallery Joni 3) Rainy Day Man James 4) Steamroller Blues James 5) The Priest Joni 6) Carey Joni 7) Carolina in My Mind James 8) California Joni + James 9) For Free Joni + James 10) The Circle Game Joni + James 11) You Can Close Your Eyes Joni + James 12) Hunter Joni 13) River Joni 14) My Old Man Joni 15) A Case of You Joni 16) Carey (unedited intro) Joni ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Apr 2003 22:12:21 -0400 From: Murphycopy@aol.com Subject: Re: What if Joni came to JoniFest ... This is purely gossip from a secondhand source, so: I had coffee at a SF hangout with someone who's room-mate was a relative of Larry Klein. And this room-mate was at a family Thanksgiving celebration and apparently Larry and Joni were both there. I asked him what her impression of Joni was, and he said that she said the event became "the Joni Show", meaning that she loved to talk to the point of monopolizing the entire dinner. Sounds fine to me! I like the idea of the lion being a person who is a Leo. I think you are on to something here! The lion reference also goes along with the peacock, in that the peacock is "afraid" and the lion is "holding back" from being assertive; standing up for himself. Also--if this person is in a depressed mood, maybe he is just "house-bound"--not in a hospital setting--and then could be "under the thumb of "his" maid"--such as, getting in her way. Maybe the dragon shining could be his "dark side" coming out of hiding, (or possibly Satan) and becoming aware of what his real values are. --Nancy-IA --- Randy Remote wrote: > re: Trouble Child > > Some things that point to Crosby: > "dragon shining with all values known" could > refer to opiates- > a common reference > "where is the lion in you to defy 'em" > Crosby is a Leo and looks like one! > "the peacock is afraid to parade" > Peacock image in Guinnevere > "under the thumb of a maid" could refer to > Crosby's inability > to get past the death of his lady.
