Joni talked about both of those relationships and commented on her two marriages as well. Why wouldn't she talk about James? I don't think there was much of anything about her time in Europe (Crete, Carey, etc.). She's not always a chatterbox: from Pamela Des Barres' "Take Another Little Piece of My Heart" (I think this is 1990): I met a true mentor at my dear friend Allee Willis's famous fifties pajama party, Annie Flanders, the intimitable founder of Details magazine. While Annie and I rambled on, Joni Mitchell sat by the pool in her fuzzy robe, dourly surveying the other nighty-clad ladies. Teri Garr had on a shorty-fluff-job. Cyndi Lauper had on an indescribably sweeping sleepy number.Sandra Bernhard wore a leopard-print getup. New cover? When coverkeeper Bob comes back from NY he can tell us whether he has this one. Broadway star Melissa Errico's recent CD "Blue Like That" includes her rendition of "Night Ride Home". The full page ad in Billboard says "Includes classics by Billy Joel, Randy Newman, Rickie Lee Jones, Shawn Colvin and Joni Mitchell" (plus originals) RR ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Mar 2003 15:24:15 -0500 (EST) From: Subject: wall-to-wall joni hey all- i'm sure discussion of the event/broadcast abounds but i'm on digest so i won't see it til tomorrow... the thing that strikes me, having listened for about an hour now, is how difficult a time most of the performers are having with joni's timing. hmmm. a nice version of jericho right now, though... peace, yael, unlurking ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Mar 2003 17:22:00 -0300 From: "Augusto Kestelboim" Subject: Joni Mitchell Biography to be Broadcast on PBS Just received this. Augusto _____________________________________________________________________________ _____ Date: Fri, 21 Mar 2003 21:25:46 -0800 Subject: Joni Mitchell Biography to be Broadcast on PBS From: Joel Bernstein Hello All! This is a brief and (sadly) not-handcrafted note to announce that a 90 minute biography for television entitled "Joni MItchell: Woman of Heart and Mind" will be broadcast nationwide on the PBS series "American Masters" on Wednesday, April 2, 2003. In most areas, the broadcast time will be at 9:00 PM. I worked on this program first as a consultant, and later as a co-producer, for over a year, helping to research, locate and compile the film, video, music, spoken word, photography, documents, etc. that make up the film, in addition to conducting the main interview along with the director, Susan Lacy. I am both pleased and honored that over 120 of my photographs spanning over 25 years were chosen for inclusion in the program. I hope that you'll have the opportunity to watch the program (I don't know when it may be re-run, but a very slightly longer version of the program will be released later this year on DVD and VHS). And I really hope that you will enjoy it...any comments are most welcome! I would REALLY be excited if the designer of the parody page could please put a link to this on that page! Please write me when this is done. I haven't shown it to Dad yet--I'm waiting until it gets posted on the net. Peace--EG "Bitching 'Bout Summer Lawns" by Stairway Dedicated to my father, Mad Russian. Mom looked out the back window At the backyard's sloping hill "I can't see the family barbecue from the window sill" As Dad trudges out in the blinding sun, I hear him bitching 'bout summer lawns He weedwhacks by the fence Where it gets so overgrown And his sunburned head Sports little growth of its own He edges out where the curb is Steps where the dogs have gone And starts bitching 'bout summer lawns Daddy He can't take it easy Daddy With this grunt-work task Daddy Weekend's gone My old man gets no time to relax Working like a dog To get done before it rains He breaks for another Pepsi glass And claims his back's in too much pain The mosquitos buzzing And the heat wave burning-in a snarling voice He's bitching 'bout summer lawns Now there's darkness setting in Got no choice but to quit it He's got a lawn like a golf-course green And no one to see it Still he sweats like a pig of some kind And in a tired voice Still bitches 'bout summer lawns. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Mar 2003 20:45:05 -0500 From: "chuty001" Subject: Re: The list is so quiet NJC I figured they all got arrested in that Chicago peace demonstration. :-) Chuck ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Mar 2003 17:54:10 -0800 (PST) From: Susan Guzzi Subject: Re: The list is so quiet NJC No Chuck, I for one, am still roaming the streets of Chicago free ... for now. I am very proud of my home town right now. I need to get myself some sort of armband or something to make a statement at the Sox home opening weekend - I went to my first yoga/pilates class today to see what I could do with my arm. Musculature must be amazing beyond my comprehension. I did a half moon like I always have, and then folded up like an accordion moving from plank to hover. And in aerobics I did all the deltoid stuff with the weights and couldn't do a lateral lift. But it was a good start at arm rehabilitation anyway and it was good to do something. And moving right along, it turns out the Eminem concert that I got tickets for features Missy Elliott and 50" - way cool. It is a struggle planning the service for tomorrow. Vince PS I changed the thread title for the hell of it. You have no idea what a thrill it was to see Lake Shore Drive clogged with people. The last time I was on Lake shore Drive on foot was when the Chicago police tear gassed a Sly and the Family Stones concert at Grant Park - damn it was that really 32 years ago - now I feel old and depressed. Must try to do some lateral lifts and feel young and vital again! Susan Guzzi wrote: >No Chuck, I for one, am still roaming the streets of Chicago free ... for now. It has a couple of funny characters in it that are her little brother Carl and his precocious but still kind of dopey friend "Hoodsie" (because he always wears a hooded sweatshirt). (Okay, okay, so I spend too much time watching these shows ... don't even get me started on the genius of Sponge Bob Square Pants ...) Anyway, I came in on the middle of this exchange: Hoodsie: " ... you don't know what you've got til it's gone." Carl: "We're trying to write a song, not a love letter!" Hoodsie: "It's from a song, Carl, a really good song. The kind that makes kids cry." I always liked Hoodsie. He has a soul. When I'm not watching these lame-brained cartoons, I also expose myself to "high culcha" by watching the Joni CBC show ... wow. I'm up to the Mingus period and had to stop the tape due to interference with the kids' bedtime. I'll finish it tonight.
