I recall some controversy about him but don't recall anything juicy-tabloid-like - think it was more criticism about his management of fund-raising or maybe appropriation (but not necessarily misappropiation) of funds. I kicked myself more than a bit, but for a different reason: I was there very early in the morning to meet up with JMDLers and see if I could find Brian G, as I had a ticket for him (which he eventually did get; cool story, that). I had a parking space in one of the first rows in the parking field, and of course the JMDLers were going to end up as close to the stage as a person could get. But (former) codependent (god I hate that word but it's true) that I was, I left to go back to our B&B to wake my drunken friends, and by the time we finally got back to Woodstock, the crowd seemed as if it was half a million strong ... So rather than be in front with the JMDLers, I ended up a ways back and off to one side with said friends. Still ... > listening to that version of 'summertime', the fourth song i think. > jaw dropped. As did mine. I was stunned and elated, and I thought: "Joni has become quite the jazz singer!!" It was a remarkable performance, and yes, Joni was in splendid voice that day. And wasn't Kilauren there, behind the stage? I seem to remember it was the first time she'd seen Joni perform in concert. (Was Kilauren's son Marlin there, too?) I was thrilled to receive the cassette of the show soon afterwards (thanks again, simon!), and have listened to it many times. Hi Chuck, and welcome to the JMDL! What you've got is a wonderful recording from the BBC broadcast of the program "Joni Mitchell Sings Joni Mitchell", sometimes referred to as the "Pink Dress" concert. The broadcast date was Oct 9, 1970. I assume the venue would have been one of the BBC broadcast studios. The show is also available on video, and it looks like a TV studio; very intimate. Online: Grammy Boss' Sex Complaint Settled by Bridget Byrne Oct 29, 2001, 1:35 PM PT Greene is costing the Grammys a lot of green--$650,000 to be exact. That's the cost of a settlement resolving the sexual assault and battery allegations lodged against Michael Greene, head honcho of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the nonprofit organization that stages the annual music awards, the Los Angeles Times reports. The harassment allegations were made by Jill Marie Geimer, who was in charge of the Recording Academy's human resources department. She was not Greene's first accuser. He had previously been cited for both sexual and financial impropriety--some allegations resolved in out-of-court settlements, others taken care of by an in-house investigation. Coincidentally, one consequence of the internal investigation was a new program at the human resources department (run by Geimer) designed to closely monitor potential sexual harassment cases. Last July, however, Geimer's lawyer sent the academy a letter alleging she had had a relationship with Greene that had spilled over into the workplace and turned abusive. Geimer claimed he had assaulted her in both a parking lot and bathroom and had called her "a slut." Greene's lawyer denied there had ever been a sexual relationship between the 30-year-old Geimer and her 52-year-old boss, and claimed Geimer had "fabricated these allegations" because she was "going to lose her job." The academy backed Greene. But now, the academy board has reconsidered, approving the big-bucks settlement. The executive committee also agreed to hire a private investigator to look into the sexual harassment allegations made by Geimer and at least two other former employees. According to the Times, the payout has "ignited a boardroom insurrection," among the 41 Recording Academy trustees. More than a dozen reportedly now want the controversial and contentious Greene fired. Geimer has been on stress and disability leave since making the allegations. A phone call today to her attorney, Gloria Allred, was not immediately returned. Nor were calls to the Recording Academy. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Feb 2003 08:34:44 -0800 From: "kakki" Subject: Re: sucker, grammies and best and worst.... now with NJC!
