The boats crunched into the beach, the Native said How!! the boat went over his foot.. In the distance there was a loud wailing sound, the Pilgrim asked if the Police were coming, ah no said the Native, thatbs just a couple of Fire Injuns.. The head Pilgrim explained they had come to build Disneyland, good enough for me man, said the native, his favourite film was "Snow White" ,I like the bit where the seven dwarfs get to bb the Pilgrim stopped him quickly," thatbs not the Disney version "he said," ah well thatb s ok" said the native, and he allowed them to leave the boat one by one. As the boats emptied the native spotted three odd characters at the back of one of the boats, a giant bird of prey throwing up over the side of the boat, an ugly pig making all sorts noises, and a parrot that was constantly scratching He called the head Pilgrim over and said they canbt come in man, the Pilgrims asked why, and the native said pointing at them one by one - "Him ill eagle, him he grunts, and I donbt want no Polly Tics man" So even way back then, Americans didnbt like illegal immigrants or politics, I rest my case your Honour, and every word of this is true, cause George Burns told me, and he was old enough to have been there(wasnbt he great) FRED Poem by the late great Spike Milligan One for the Religious discussion. [NJC] Friends, Some of you may know... our (San Francisco's) own Spencer Day has made it to the dubious yet lucrative spot of Finalist on the new TV show Star Search LIVE!, which will have it's FINAL show, THIS Thursday, February 6. Spencer is gay, 24, incredibly gifted singer/songwriter in the genre of Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland (!). He plays Thursday and Sunday nights at The Lush Lounge here in SF, and ... did an appearance at Garrin Benfield's G/L/B/T Singer/Songwriter series at the Bazaar Cafe last year (Walt: I think you were there...). His competitor is Jake Simpson, who ... is also gay! How rare is that? the 2 top finalists in Star Search are both young gay men! The 'win' is dubious, because...well...who wants to be introduced to the world by Arsenio Hall, and the drunk Naomi Judd, (yes, she has been piss drunk for each broadcast), the obnoxious Ben Stein... but lucrative, as in, winner gets $100,000 ! and a Sony recording contract (well, I guess that is dubious too). So...1/2 of the score is based on the audience online vote, which happens live, as soon as both contestests have finished their singing. Spencer is in the Adult Singer Category, and this usually goes on as the last competition during the show, between the final 20 minutes. The show is broadcast LIVE on CBS network at 8PM EASTERN TIME... So...you all do the math, and figure out where you are on that time zone thing... and...go to http://www.cbs.com/primetime/star_search/index.shtml . . . Spencer is up against this cute Justin Timberlake lookalike, Jake Simpson, who does a Stevie Wonder singalike...in fact ALL he ever does at Blake's in NYC, are Stevie Wonder covers. Spencer is an original. If you've caught him at the Lush Lounge or at the Plush Room (where he'll be again with his fabulous jazz ensemble for a week in April)...you know he's the man. His original music is amazing. So...get online at the LIVE broadcast time THURSDAY/TODAY!... when the "Adult Singer" category is up for vote *usually* about 40 minutes into the show, audience online voting opens for about 5 minutes..... and you *must* vote for both singers, rating them 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, give Spencer that "5" and ... the other guy, that "1", and... you can vote as often as your bandwith permits. Just keep clicking! Just Do It! Support our local musicians! Americans as a group are workaholics, imo. The U.S. has just 6 "mandatory" federal holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day (in May), Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day (September), Thanksgiving (November), and Christmas (December 25). If you have to work on any of those holidays, you are supposed to be paid at twice your hourly rate (if you are paid hourly), or given compensatory time (if you are salaried). I worked for almost 5 years for a man who observed ONLY those 6 holidays, and he grumbled about them. Today I work for a wonderful company that observes all federal holidays plus Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's birthday (January), President's Day (February), Columbus Day (October), Veteran's Day (November 11), and the day after Thanksgiving. My company is also very liberal about closing the office early (or entirely) around Christmas and various holidays that create long weekends. My mom worked for her company for 29 years and had 6 weeks of vacation annually, but she was very fortunate. In my experience, that is not the norm in the U.S. of A. Here's a very good story about Kimberly, a shocking story: http://dawn.thot.net/Kimberly_Rogers/kria137.html While she was not allowed to leave her home and was 8 months pregnant, she had only $18 a month to live on, after paying rent and making her student loan repayment. She was scared to go out, even into the back yard according to this story, because she thought the authorities would take her baby away if she got caught. In the event, the baby died with her. Canada is a gentle, kind country, at least that's my experience of it, so this story stunned me and still does, especially the lack of sympathetic national media coverage. I don't know how Colin feels about that, but I don't believe those procedures should be done. I agree with Colin on circumcision and ear piercing, too. Even though I chose to have my ears pierced at age 14, I would've been pissed off had anyone chosen to have it done for me when I was a baby. A secret microphone was smuggled in, only women were there, and an old woman with a razor blade did the dirty deed, once I heard the screams of this 11 year old girl, and her vain shouts for her mother to stop it, I had to flick channels. Some girls bleed to death, many die of infections or become infertile, when they asked the women why they did it, some you could see were not happy, but the older ones said a man won't want a woman who doesn't have this done, maybe these "Men" have a penis as small as their brains. If this is a religious requirement, and we are made in Gods image, why should they want to mutilate that body Fred . A lighter subject, but in the same area, I read a magazine my daughter used to buy, in it there was a list of what women like about a man, and several who took part put Pubic hair on the list, maybe it provided a nice setting for a mans meat and two veg. I still go to the gym and occasionally play football (Soccer) and have never seen a man who was shaved in that area, these girls possibly like men with dark hair more. I must admit that while taking life drawing classes, the models were usually unshaved, and I must say I prefer that, I feel it is far more attractive, adds to the mystery maybe, one of our models was a redhead, pale skin, freckles, an absolute vision of beauty, but suprizingly ordinary with her clothes on, and her hair tied back, I'm talking about the hair on her head ! anyone else care to admit to a preference. male or female Freddyb ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Feb 2003 13:19:43 -0800 From: Randy Remote Subject: Re: Steely Dan NJC From the description, it does appear to be both of them.
