It's now at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Dylan showed up to the premiere for the movie looking like Farmer Brown after pig-stye duty. He had dyed blond hair, a blue hat, a grubby plaid shirt and a sweatshirt, looking totally unamused and unforgiven. Andrew - ---- "Masked and Anonymous," directed by Larry Charles Jack Fate (Dylan), a cult musician who never hit it big, gets sprung from prison by Uncle Sweetheart (Goodman), a promoter who wants Jack to play a benefit concert -- who stands to benefit is unclear. A woman goes into a store, clothes store, selling women's clothes but run by a man. She carefully looks around, and you see her putting something in her bag. But the man who works there has seen her, and he grabs her and starts berating her: " hey you, I saw that. You think you can steal from me? You stupid bitch, I caught you. You come with me while I call the police" etc. The woman pleads with him not to call the police, but the more she pleads, the more bullying he becomes and starts dragging her to the telephone. There are another 4 or so women in the store, and they see what is happening, and without a word being exchanged between them (and they don't know each other), they slowly surround him, and knock him to the ground. Then they start kicking him, softly at first, then harder, and they keep kicking until they have killed him. When they've finished, they pick up their bags, leave the store, and go their separate ways. Quite a shocker - it was seen as an important feminist film when it came out. (No offence intended to men on the list!) Sarah From: "Bree Mcdonough" Two women again..except neither were pregnant. They chased each other..one exited the expressway.. the other one right on her tail..the one pursuing jumped out of her truck with her GUN in hand went up to the women and shot her DEAD. Scary. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Jan 2003 22:47:23 -0700 From: sl.m@shaw.ca Subject: Re: Most things going on on the list NJC And there's always a fight going on in the corner. ;-) And the people in the more respectable Joni-only pub next door are always shouting "Oi, keep the noise down in there!" ;-) Sarah From: "Lucy Hone" I view this list as a sort of virtual pub. We all hang around in our separate silences until someone perks up a topic and then we all shout to be heard....Some are heard more loudly than others... some have axes to grind, some have trees to chop. . . Dunno if Waters or Gilmore were involved. http://store.acousticsounds.com/store.cfm?Title_ID=10539&do=detail&keywords= newsletter That's good news for the 2 people on the planet who have SACD players. The rest of the world is sleeping through the revolution and that is why it will "fail". For non-audiophiles: This material will NOT be on the final exam. It will be just another Good Idea That Didn't Catch On like the Elcaset and Beta and Laserdisc and FM radio. (Okay, I slipped in a ringer.) SACD is one of two higher-rez formats. Yeah, there are combination players that decode both Sony's SACD and Panasonic's DVD-Audio. As you would expect it's the usual battle: Sony-Columbia versus the rest of the world. There is already one Joni Mitchell title available on DVD-Audio but no one on this list has ever reviewed it. There are no Beatles titles yet. The revolution will not be buying airtime on the Super Bowl broadcast. Lama np: a superb sounding David Crosby solo live disc. I found it in a gas station for $8 or something. The title is "Live" and on a label called "EMI-Capitol Special Markets". Cat #72435-24498-2-8 (c) 2000. The dynamics are intact and that, my friends, is half the ride. (That's what was so disappointing about the latest live one from the E Streeters. You would think that Sony-Columbia would have figured it out by now, but no. Even "Live Rust" comes up lacking in the dynamics game.) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Jan 2003 02:05:23 -0500 From: dsk Subject: Re: Most things going on on the list NJC Lucy Hone wrote: > > I view this list as a sort of virtual pub. ... > But I am enjoying the laughter ... All around the globe we are... I've had some good laughs at the pub today, too. From Cindy: "Women with southern accents have sex. Quite well, thank you. Unfortunately, I have no accent." LOL!!! And I'm still trying to imagine anyone pronouncing that Llan....... word, and thinking about Mike's offer to do so over the phone. I don't believe it can be done!!! Not anywhere. Surely anyone would choke and die on the "...-wllll..." part of the word if the first part hadn't already killed them. Offering to do such a dramatic act must be the way Welshmen distract the world from their, uh, stable relationships. The cast looks impressive with Jessica Lange, Ed Harris, Angela Bassett, Jeff Bridges on board too. It would be great to see Dylan act or "not act". The last time I saw a great performance from a jazz giant was Dexter Gordon in ROUND MIDNIGHT. I like that film, though I was a bit suprised why it won best musical scoring when Ennio Morricone's score for THE MISSION was much better in my ears. Maybe that's why they call them critics.
