There's still one or two people to whom I owe a password for them to upload photos. Mea Culpa. Been away a lot recently. John Moore, I know, I've been supposed to sort this out for ages. Also, a last shout out to anyone else who wants a password and a section of site to upload to. I'll deal with it this evening. Can't tell you that but I think that somewhere on Wally's website is a photo of Joni's (in my opinion doofy), ad for a PETA like group. I'm stretching my brain cells here but I saw this ad back at the very first pre-Ashara JoniFest and it had a Gap like feeling. And as I type this out, I'm starting to think: didn't I see her in a Blackgama ad for one of those "what becomes a legend most?" campaigns. Nearly sure I'm not mixing her up with the one done by Lillian Helman. If anyone might have been hesitating about buying these (for whatever reason), hesitate no more. These are excellent CDs and these artists deserve recognition. I think another lister had mentioned that Patti sounds a bit like Shawn Colvin and I do hear a similarity - nice guitar work too. (Just a little aside here - Patti, if you're listening, I got a chuckle about the bit in your song "Walk a mile" where you mentioned pixie haircuts. My Mum used to take my sisters and me down to the local hairdresser at the beginning of every summer for the pixie cut - I hated that haircut!) Christina, of BYT - what a pure voice you have. NJC Hey listers, So my first two gigs here in N.O. are well overwith and I'm still on a high from friday's gig at the House Of Blues. Well, it sure is hard to stay down to earth when Michael is taking me to the same hotel as where Michael Jordan is eating (didn't perform for him though, and read Jimmy's e-mail too late for the autograph :) and having me meet all these great musicians and other people within the musical environment, AND on top of that...pours tequila on me by the gallons! It's just like Jonifest! lol So friday night's performance went very well. Jack was awesome, I enjoyed his set immensely. Beth was amazing on the bouzouki and singing her a capella song, and Michael was of course great and kept Jack and me from passing out of anxiety... This morning's gig was a fund raiser for children with Down Syndrome and it also went well. I'm already making a list with people who are interested in my new album, though we haven't found any songs yet. I'm soon hooking up with different songwriters that I've met, though. I'll probably be able to tell you more about this project pretty soon. Right now, I'm on a bloody mary while Michael is hurling at this sunday's football match every two minutes or so... Tonight, Jack will come over and we'll start forming a repertoire for some local gigs that we'll do in the near future. As Michael said, this is really just like a dream, and for me especially cause I'm able to sing every single day! That is such a treasure for me and there's definitely no longer any doubt in my mind that this is what I want to do. I also want to thank you guys for that. You've given me so much encouragement and support - and faith - in doing this. You are THE BEST! The host, David Dye, interviews a singer-songwriter almost every weekday, picks some wonderful old/new stuff and spins another interview from the archives. If it was David Dye you heard, he may have said "Krall's take on Joni Mitchell's [A Case For You]." David Dye knows his stuff. He's interviewed Joni. Enjoy it while it lasts. (He's been at it for years but it's too good to last......) Lama One of my favoite "World Cafe" sessions was the one when Shawn Colvin did a a solo take on "Shotgun Down the Avalanche". Mags said, We were listening to XPN in Philadelphia this morning and they played this very version of Case of You... the announcer said it was Joni Mitchell's A Case For You. oops. ------------------------------ Date: 20 Oct 2002 12:05:27 -0700 From: James Phillips Subject: Shadows and Light dear all, after coming home from church, I decided to (probably to the horror my long suffering partner Patrick LOL) listen to some music I haven't listened to in a long while. Immediately I decided to listen to Shadows and Light, as I haven't listened to it a very long time. To me, at least, this is the best of Joni's two officially released live albums. The songs and song selection was wonderful. And then to close out with Woodstock, done in a different arrangment than what she has performed (the piano arrangement of Ladies of the Canyon, the band arrangement of the Miles of Aisles). When did Joni start performing a guitar arrangement of Woodstock? Was it during this tour? Maybe someone can shed some light on that for me. After this, believe it or not, the next one up is going to be the Blue album. And Lori is, too, along with all the other Washington/Richmond-area people. (Ruth, how are you doing?) My NYC fears are only in my imagination these days, and just that's enough to make me tense most days. It's got to be frightening and horribly stressful being in those areas now. I'm trying to figure out what Joni music to play to make it all go away (or at least to feel less anxiety about what's happening in the world these days), and haven't come up with anything yet.
