This collection is not just the greatest hit songs about getting or losing love that is so trivialized in all the top 40 songs today. The first two tracks Love and YDFT are about love but after Woodstock the following songs are about very serious topics STB ,JOTM&TS,and TSOS. Her subjects about the state of social conditions are the main themes in these songs example Sex Kills, Borderline, Cherokee Louise. This collection of songs have the strongest composition of melody rythmn and counter rhythm and offer the greatest advantage for orchestral arrangement. It is interesting that WTRF has 3 songs on this list, I am happy with 4 off Hejira but sad that no songs off THOSL were picked a symphonic Jungle Line would have cracked some plaster off the walls. This record Bussinees trend today still feeds off of radio play time the only FM station in Portland,Oregon will infrequently play Joni's Free Man in Paris, You Turn Me on I am a Radio or Woodstck from MOA. The only full time jazz station did play The Man I Love and Summertime that Joni sang with Herbie Hancock on his Gershwin's World CD. So will the Travelouge songs get any play on Jazz stations or maybe classical stations ? Travelogue will be bought by the most addicted Joniheads around the world. No regrets Coyote! sums it up on the last song . Added observation When I go into Borders or our local CD shops the Joni Bin has usualy most all of her Cd's I have an habit of spending some time putting them in order and then I reflect on the clacking hard plastic CD cases and remember when the weight and size of the vinyl LP's.The sight of STAS(Pyshodelicdoodles) and my love of Joni's colorfull self portait on Clouds. THe Jungle Institution Hi Walt, glad to see someone else spends far too much time thinking about lyrics!! I have to say the 1st time I heard The Jungle Line I thought it was Jean Jacques Rousseau she was referring to, putting JJ Rousseau in the context of Joni, i.e. author of Reveries of a Solitary Walker etc, I did study him in my younger years and so put two and two together and most probably got 5! However reading the glossary on the jmdl web page the description of the artist Rousseau also seems to perfectly fit the song. who knows? maybe she was just being ultra clever and its' meaning can be ambiguous and it can be either Rousseau!! or maybe we just have far too much time on our hands.... and actually I don't even like the song so why am I even bothering writing about it!!! must get back to my own little analytical world, sarah - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get a speedy connection with MSN Broadband. I know a piano has a range of over seven, but most people cannot really distinguish pitches at either the lowest or highest end. With classical singers the challenge is control over the entire range; the issue of highest and lowest notes is less important than evenness throughout. Therefore the workable range of a fine classical singer is likely to be less than that of, say, Mariah Carey or Cleo Laine, who was famous for her high notes. I remember an article from the 1970s comparing the ranges of Marilyn Horne, Joni Mitchell, and Cleo Laine: Horne's was the smallest, Joni's went to a high F above high C (I've never heard her go anywhere near that high, not that it matters) and Dame Cleo's even higher (imho and all that, Cleo Laine was a better singer before those showy high notes started to dominate her work). Just a few thoughts! Cheers to all, Roberto > >Kate Bush can sing a span of seven octaves????????????????? Is that >physiologically possible? I thought the reviewer was awe struck and fair, and Joni was very pleasantly Joni, not the bitching whining shrew that was kind of predicted. And Joni on Britney and Christina? "They're sweet." This article was Joni at her best, a very lovable Joni who gave some good insights, shares her opinions, and comes across very well. RS did a good job for Joni. And in the 50 essential women's rock albums of ALL TIME., each artist with one listing, Joni gets #2 for Blue, second only to Aretha Franklin. That is a damned fine ranking. The reality was much different than what was predicted, and I am saving this issue of RS as a Joni keepsake because it is Joni, pure Joni at her best. RS was good to her. And Joni comes across so well in RS. Vince And yes, I get po'ed at RS sometimes, but I still read RS all the time, have a subscription, because I get a lot of music news as well as real in-depth reporting on non-musical issues of importance. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Oct 2002 20:11:37 -0400 From: JRMCo1@aol.com Subject: Re: This Just In (NJC) Break a leg, Jack, Paz and Christina (and Beth)!! It's "Live in Paris" - which has most of the same songs as the "Look of Love one" but has a 2002 release date, and it includes "A case of you" which "Look of Love" did not. > BOB MUllER and everybody: At the Morpheous site I > noticed several songs > came back for Joni..one being "One Tin Soldier?" > What is this about? I don't know who the eejits are that put this stuff up there to begin with, and whether they deliberately put the wrong name on it to screw people around, or whether they're just plain stupid and can't recognize Joni's voice, but then other people download it and it gets spread around out there and never goes away. Don't waste your time downloading it. I've seen some pretty weird stuff on Morpheus and other mp3 downloading sites where they get the artist's name messed with someone else's. Quite annoying, especially when you think you've found something unique and new, and it's just the same old crappola. ===== Catherine Toronto ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Oct 2002 22:58:05 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re:Travelogue. now chickens. njc & completely stoopid --- Bree Mcdonough > > Bree..waiting for my chicken to come out of the > oven. Big arrrrgh! I bet you looked very cute in the Hugo Boss ;-) Does anyone know if Lea Salonga played in the L.A. run of Miss Saigon in '95? I swear I remember her from that show, but cannot find confirmation. Which reminded me of one of my most memorable nights at the Bel Air hotel bar shortly thereafter - one of the female leads in Miss Saigon spontaneously getting up and singing half the songs, accompanied by the regular piano man, for the sparse audience on a cold winter's night. It was stunning. Glad you had such a wonderful night. I've noticed on the Cowboy Junkies' list that the worst thing to possibly do is to pre-order a new release. People who do that have found that their mail order is PULLED on the release day and shipped the following day. That means that the people who went to the mall and bought the disc at the biggest music store in town, have already posted their intitial impressions, the second day impressions, and their followup, full reviews of the strong points and weak spots before the people who pre-ordered have even seen the artwork! So, I suggest that those of us who will actually be able to get "A Travelogue" on November 19th, should take advantage of that. Is it going to be released in the Ukranine on the 19th? In Austria? In Denmark? In the UK on 19, November? If so, Europe will have a headstart on the Canucks and the Yanks. We can have a rolling chat about it. Who's in? Your right, it does appear as if Stevie Nicks has a lot of make-up on in this photograph. Why? I don't know, but it sure as hell isn't to hide her age! I recently saw her up close with very little make up on and she looks better than most 30 year old women around my neighborhood and work place. She, like Joni, is in her mid fifties. There are very few lines on Stevie's face and don't even think about coming back to me with the plastic surgery garbage. She has stated on a few occasions that she would never alter the aging process of her face that way. I think the photo in question was just a fun opportunity for dress-up(studio setting with royalty type clothing and crown) while Joni's pic was a casual shot in the garden while having a conversation. Granted, I would much rather go with the light make-up if any. Especially if you don't need it(and Stevie does NOT). Yes Bob, I'm a Joni fan and a Stevie fan too.
