I recall vividly th alst major bomb in London at Canary wharf-not far from our flat. it sent to the fllor. It was such a loud bang. It was hte closest I had ever been to a bomb yet I knew immediately what it was. What else would make that noise? My biggest fear was always for John. he works in central Londodn and his building had already been a target. > > > But somehow we find a way to cope and live our lives anyway, because > the human spirit looks for good and finds it, and pushes on. yes. Sorry if I sounded too strong. That particular song sings to me. I have yet to hear Laura Nyro and come to think of it have never even seen a Laura Nyro album, ever, in my lifetime. Rather strange. Even after sifting through countless piles of 8-tracks, cassettes, and cd's, in 45 years. I was just feeling that ole James was getting somewhat of a rap and I do like some of his music very much, and some of Joni's leaves me cold. Apples and oranges again. But when she is good, she is very good, to write the least. I did read the comment by someone (and I apologize to whomever it was for I cannot remember)that CMIAR was a better album than most others in the general music world (paraphrasing). I think it is terrible judging by any standard. My biggest complaint about it is that I just cannot hear Joni and I hate that. I think it is uniformly artistic - especially difficult when the production is elaborate. To me, it has an artist's touch to it - not heavy handed and judgmental like DED, and not as uneven as WTRF (which I find to be a mix of the sublime and the boorish). Really, those 3 recordings are not comparable - they are quite different as audio paintings. And, I like all three of them. Really, she has never made a lousy album - though I still do not 'get' Mingus, really. Speaking of the 80's albums - not one song from them in the PazFest tribute album. Maybe they are just too difficult to capture successfully, with all of the production aspects. Anyway, for those of you who have not yet ordered your copy (or 5) - what are y'all waiting for ? It's a really fun and fine recording - great job, Michael ! And it's a good cause ! No excuses everyone - if you haven't done so yet, time to get with the program. Bob S. MY GAWD ! ! ! Ever wish you could explain your Joni obsession to friends, lovers, neighbors, and the occasional, troublesome homocide detective with a bad raincoat and haircut? Well, here's great news! MY GAWD ! ! ! This 2-CD set has nothing but Joni content. Dreams and schemes and coffee percolators and pachyderms and catapiller tractors and beautiful foolish arms. How can you resist? Fall in. Given the variety of the performers and the level of their performances, this is the Joni gift that just keeps on giving everyone on your holiday gift list more reasons to love Joni. MY GAWD . . . THERE'S MORE? What's more, every PazFest CD you buy benefits the constuction of the new Ruth Paz burns center. This means that, for the first time, children in Honduras will get the all-important 'pre-treatment' they need for their burns. Basically, what we all take for granted in other parts of the world -- quick treatment for children who have been burned -- doesn't exist in Honduras. Buy this PazFest CD and you'll help change that. But back to the PazFest CD . . . MY GAWD ! ! ! I didn't know I LIKED JONI MITCHELL THAT MUCH ! ! ! I don't want to mention any names but BRYAN THOMAS just leaked out! MY GAWD, how can a man own one of Joni's most personal and confessional songs ("Little Green") and make it his own? And you know, there's lots, lots more! MY GAWD ! ! ! I'll stop there, even though I am hearing other incredible stuff from these CDs right now. This PazFest 2-CD set is a remarkable thing for any Joni lover to own. The performances are ALL great, and it's a great way to finally clue people in to what you've been talking about all these years. MY GAWD, SANTA ! ! ! This holiday season, what are you planning to give all those people you've been trying to save from lives of quiet desperation? Socks? Lottery scratch tickets? McDonald's gift certificates? Hell, no. This year, give them the gift of PazFest . . . and save them from themselves! MY GAWD ! ! ! IT'S SO EASY ! ! ! Just go to www.jmdl.com and check out how easy it is to order PazFest for everyone on your gift list. They need it.
