I am sure it has been posted before here and it is on the list page, but what a great list! I'd love to sit and chat it up with Joni about Musicians and music in general. I really want the new Laura Nyro book which is out already. Maybe I'll ask for it, for christmas. I guess I can understand how joni gets "bristled" when compared to Judy Collins and/or Joan Baez. It is obviously unfair and those comparisons are made by people who just want to generalize categories it seems.. Judy Collins relationship with Joni seems to come to light in that 1985 article, where Joni describes how she and ms. Collins planned to go to Newport Folk Festival in 1968 and that Judy never picked her up. I am sure many other instances occured that angered or unnerved Joni... But, ofcourse, I have nothing against Judy Collins and would not refuse to buy her product because of a sour relationship with Joni, eventhough, i prefer the latter. Is there a tune that Carly did not do a great version of? I first became aware of her in the 70's while a teenager in West Texas. The two big hits then were "Haven't Got Time for the Pain" and "The Right Thing To Do", the latter which is still my all-time favorite by her although "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" is a very close second. I had this vison of her, remember this is rural, rural Texas where one had little outside information, as looking somewhat like Rita Moreno with the curly type hair worn then. Have no idea what that is called. Was sure surprised when I saw her picture for the first time. Not the biggest fan and only have the greatest hits and Coming Around Again. Wonder even now why I never bought more. Isn't she Colin's fav? She was in the tape player most of the time that summer of 77 as I and my friend Phillip drove endlessly about town, cavorting, searching for love, dragging main street, and passing the boy next doors house endlessly. The version of the title song for the movie Swing Shift was so good, better than anyone else that I have heard. "Someone waits for You', is that the title? Then I heard that she and James Taylor were husband and wife but couldn't believe she could be with him for she was so much better than he, I thought at the time. Had absolutely no idea of who Joni Mitchell was, had never heard of her and I was 18 years old. Just remembrances, sorry for the boring content but Carly is very close to my heart. I especially like "My Funny Valentine" because it cuts straight to the heart. I also loved her non-standard "WHat Has She Got?". Loved the MY ROMAMCE video where she sang with Harry Connick, Jr. MY ROMANCE was released in 1990 and TORCH in early 80s (Carly's "Not a Day Goes By" was/is poignant). joseph can we count Marianne Faithfull's STRANGE WEATHER album as a standards album? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Oct 2002 23:55:29 EDT From: Murphycopy@aol.com Subject: Re: chat njc Mack writes: << She is a very nice lady. >> Rose?
