What's with such high prices in the U.K.? It's not like that island is a huge ocean away from other countries. This may be a loaded question, but who's getting rich there from such high consumer prices? Debra Shea ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Oct 2002 22:30:04 -0700 From: "Brenda" Subject: 10 Desert Island Soundtracks (njc) This is by far the hardest list I've ever done. But here goes: 1) Dreamgirls (One of the most highly charged pieces of music I own...and when you consider what happened to Florence Ballard, it becomes that much more moving.) 2) The Apartment (This music, Jack Lemmon's expressiveness and sordid, shadowy Manhattan affairs - all beautifully matched.) 3) Sophisticated Ladies (Duke Ellington. Nuff said.) 4) Sweeney Todd 5) Cinema Paradiso 6) Sarafina 7) Round Midnight (The fact that Dexter Gordon had at this point lost his chops makes it evocatively poignant.) 8) The Pink Panther (Even with the well worn main theme.) 9) Yentl (For sentimental reasons - I will forever associate it with "the one" who got away...) 10) Somewhere in Time Brenda n.p.: Sarah Vaughn - "You Are Too Beautiful" - ------------------------------ Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Oct 2002 01:54:57 -0400 From: "Jim L'Hommedieu \(Lama\)" Subject: Hello, I'm back, sort of...&Levon Helm(njc) When Mister Helm came through town recently, the advert said that his daughter handles the singing as Mister Helm is a throat cancer survivor...... He can't play it slowly enough to suit me. Next to that, "Paprika Plains" is positively succinct. Play on, dark horse. We miss you and I know you miss us too. Amen. Walt asked what's up with Levon Helm: >>>Anyway, I was wondering what asnyone knew about the "Band" member Levon Helm (they also chatted with Dave Van Ronk). Levon seemed like a nice guy, but with his whiskey voice and really weird bowl haircut, I swear he looked and sounded like an off-duty Knoxville drag queen.>>> ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Oct 2002 02:28:06 -0400 From: vince Subject: amended and now baker's dozen desert island soundtracks njc vince wrote, perpetrating more grievous mistakes in haste: > Y Tu Mama Tambien > Trainspotting is replaced by Hard Day's Night > Hair (play) > Jesus Christ Superstar (movie) > Looking for Mr. Goodbar > Camelot is replaced by Rocky Horror Picture Show > Eight Mile (doesn't come out until November but what the hell) > Star Wars (the original 1977 movie) > Woodstock > Love, Janis and now I defy the convention of "10" and throw that fascist number of limitation aside to make it 12: Help! It was out on DVD not too long in a more complete presentation of this concert, but this CD works really well. For those who have been looking for something other than a bootleg/transfer/MP3 of "A Case Of You" look no further. The version here is a slower, but fantastic. Score another one for this talented lady... - -Jerome _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2002 #404 ***************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
