Ruth ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Aug 2002 12:07:39 -0400 From: Engwall57@aol.com Subject: Turbulent Indigo I just got aroung to buying TI. I really love the sound of this recording. Joni and Wayne shorter are a musical match made in heaven. It has a mysterious, even spooky kind of sound, with the droning bass and the siren-like synthesizers in the background. I've seen other listers comment on the repeat of certain themes from NRH. The nostalgic, rock-and-roll Cadillac of NRH transforms into the Just Ice cadillace of the apocalypse. Magdalene trembling in rapture gets locked up in the Laundries with the stone-hearted, brutal nuns. The exuberant Only Joy in Town is echoed in the wistful Ybette in English. The song Turbulent Indigo is very spooky - I love the weird harmonies. TI is like NRH through a glass darkly. What about the song Not to Blame? I have read that Joni said it was not about Jackson Browne - did she issue that statement after a call from Browne's lawyer? Did she go off and write this song after reading the newspaper accounts, without having any real inside information? on a JB website, they say Joni was not feeling well and having lots of problems when she wrote it - and of course that none of that really happened. If it did happen, I hope Daryl landed a few punches of her own - she is a healthy 5'10". Now maybe I will get around to buying BSN. I definitely look forward to the release of the latest CD - any news on that? Try https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_account or maybe just https://www.paypal.com Anyway, whenever I buy something on ebay from England, which is always those little corinthian soccer player things, the seller tells me what my bid is in dollars (which I think is #1 = $1.25, or so I am told) and I send money to their bank account direct from my bank account or from my credit card. It has to be basically no cost to someone because even with postage those little corinthian things never cost more than $6.00 so the seller can't be losing money on a deal that small or why would they sell them? And people can send money to me too and it goes into my checking account. Not that anyopne has ever sent me money but i wanted to be ready just in case! The "s" stands for "secure" and it means that the connection between you (and in this case) PayPal is encrypted (scrambled) so that a "man-in-the-middle" cannot snoop on your conversation with the website. I've been studying classical guitar for a few years now and the typical classical guitarist does exactly that - you keep the left-hand nails short, so as not to interfere with the strings and make them buzz, and you keep the right-hand ones long, filed very smooth (you can use fine sandpaper to make them ultra-smooth) so get the right tone on the strings as you play them. > I noticed in PWWAM that Joni's nails are all > long (and lovely).
