I can't help you much with the time-line, Erica, though I DO have a copy of the Rolling Stone chart that paired her up with all the rock stars. For me, there was great detail in the pictures and images of the countryside and the play on sound and silence. For example toward the end of the film Tom Hanks lets out several bursts of machine gun fire on a bunch of people but the sound is blocked out so you only see the flash of the gun. Then, when he shoots a particular individual immediately after, they bring the sound back to full volume. The gun shots in general were very loud and I could see that upsetting people. But there were many other shots of the calm scenic countryside and the busy old time cities and the snow and the bicycle...that alone is a unique image...a bike in the snow. Anyway, the overall quality of the film seemed to be excellent to me. really top shelf. But it is not a soft movie. He says it's the best thing he's ever done and oh yes, I do agree, indeed. I can't begin to describe it, you have to experience it for yourself. I've followed him since the Hollies, have all his solos and combos with CSN or Y and this the one is where it all comes together in gorgeous glory. Oh my. All of the songs are unique and beautiful. Of extra note is his cover of Richard and Linda Thompson's "Pavanne" and "Liar's Nightmare" an 8 minute, 15-verse lyric breathtaker that has much to say to everyone about our world and society with words by Nash and melody by (I believe) Joni dulcimer mentor Jean Ritchie (Mr. Dulson can correct me ;-). Croz does some subtle harmony along the way but there is no apparent hidden Joni track. "Where Loves Lies Tonight" is like listening to a McCartney love song but better. The haunting "Chelsea Hotel" is classic Nash with possibly vague Joni allusions. The hook-up with Russ Kunkel and Dean Parks has done him very well, I think. I also think Kate's friends Doug Ingoldsby and John Gonzales have brought much beauty to the album - I can hear their influence on it. The fact that he is taking this live with Klein, Pevar, Parks, Raymond and Kunkel is beyond mindblowing to anticipate. Get the album, see the show.
