Best of luck quitting the smokes. I love Rock Steady also! Have you seen the their new video Hella Good? I think it's brilliant. I've always liked Gwen Stefani's talent. Can't believe the little one is 14 months old! Where does the time go? NJC Hey you beautiful listas, you! How goes it, y'all? I just had to check in since I miss all of you so much. As usual, I've been REEEEAAAALLY busy and since May I've been lucky to read like maybe 3 or 4 digests, so I just had to see what's up with everyone. As for me, same ole thing. However, in May I presented at a conference at UBC in Vancouver, so I actually drove out with Tracy and Kelly and made this big pilgramage to Chilliwack (about an hour outside of Vancouver) where I used to live and bored Tracy to tears. After she finally dragged me away from my hometown, we took a long leisurely trip back home and since then we've spend basically every weekend at the lake. However, I'm finally on holidays (yay!) so this week I am just trying to get things organized at home. I'm also kind of/sort of/ trying to quit smoking again. I went and got zyban, and was going to start taking it this week, but I'm trying this cold turkey thing first now. I had 3 smokes on Saturday night (I was drunk, so that is doing pretty damn good), then yesterday, I only had like maybe 1/4 of a smoke, and none today, so I'm happy, but also (this sounds stupid) mourning the fact that I have to quit smoking, because, damnit, I love love love it, and I love smokers, and OMG I love bonding with smokers, but whatever, I'll deal with it I guess. Hmmm, what else.... baby is doing great, 14 months old, and my most favorite person on the planet. As for music, the only new-ish thing I listen to is No Doubt's ROCKSTEADY, which I love love love. Oh, and I scammed Elton tickets, which is a long frigging complicated story. Anyway, just had to check in because I miss you all so much, and I hope all is well with everyone. Keep in touch peoples, I'm still lurking! NJC Thanks everyone, for the birthday wishes. It made turning 40 (ouch) a little easier. My niece gave me a framed poem that she had submitted as a school project. (She's studying graphic design.) She used a lot of artsy fonts that I can't duplicate here, but I'll try to give you the idea. It's Joni's words (obviously) interspersed with a poem by T. S. Eliot: people will tell you where they've gone what we call a beginning they'll tell you where to go is often the end and to make an end but till you get there yourself is to make a beginning the end is where you never really know we start from Kerry ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 21:36:20 -0500 From: Patti Haskins Subject: Site 59 Hi all, I receive email alerts from http://www.site59.com , a last minute travel package web site. Never have used the service, just like to dream that I might some day. In today's email from the site, at the close of the list of big city, bright light packages, the "author" closed this way: Joni Mitchell sang about the beauty of the dancing lights against the night sky of New York in her song Night in the City, and she couldn't have put it better. Pack your bags and learn what Joni meant when she sang "The night in the city looks pretty to me." Until next week, Patty Griffin Surprised the hell out of me. I've met you in person and you certainly don't look a day over 39 ;) To be totally honest, I'd have put you in your early-to-mid-30s, but what do I know. ______________________________________________________________________ Post your ad for free now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 23:03:43 -0700 (PDT) From: Nuriel Tobias Subject: Memento Mori Dearest Friends, Though one wishes to repress and deny it, we shall all one day vanish into the great unknown, and I strongly believe that one should prepare for one's final rites just as one prepares for one's wedding.
